Recommendations wanted for videos on how to cut my own simple style

I dont live in a country with curly hair specialists or salons so im kind of left to my own devices. The past I have just trimmed my hair myself, not caring if it looked uneven because you can never tell. But its getting very long now and id like to regain some texture and volume, while of course keeping as much length as I can.

Im looking for any solid tutorials on youtube that I could possibly follow and give myself some style whatsoever. Heres where im at currently: Almost all one length. Id love to achieve some volume above my ears.

P.s. the 4th photo was this morning after freshly washing and styling. It obviously falls flat throughout the day because its constantly in my face.

Routine: washing with Vida bar shampoo only every other week or so. Conditioner every shower, innersence. Styling with Gel de Linaza (a flax based gel sold here in guatemala) and Got2be styling mousse. Air dry. I yse a silk pullowcase to sleep. Im in the ocean everyday, so no refresh.

PSA: Removing medical tape from fur after IV

My boy Chucho unfortunately lost his left eye on monday. We were sent home with way too much tape still on the leg from the IV, ans figured we'd deal with it later. At first i put some oil on the tape to hopefully loosen it up. It worked only a little, still very painfully attached to his fur. Plus it was a mess.

Last night I put him in a shallow bathtub and scrubbed his leg with Castile soap! The one i use is locally made with olive oil as the base. After 3-4 min it loosened up and came right off. Worth a shot instead of ripping off fur.

Edit for everyone bashing my vet: My dog has extreme fear of the vet to begin with. It required much more tape than normal to get the IV in him before he was able to relax. Furthermore, In order to reduce his stress we decided to deal with it at home. Also, i am not in the US, rather in a rural area of central america. The staff was the vet and one tech. Standards also are very different. This vet saved my dogs life so I am not going to complain about some tape.

Today, my boy lost his tiny eye

My dog was born with an underdeveloped eye. It always moved in unison with the other eye, was the same color etc. It was just..small.

In the past 5 months ive watched the little eye go from bright blue to having a giant red splotch. Then it shifted to a murky green color, plus cloudy and still with what looked like a blood blister inside.

Yesterday I took him to 1 of 2 dog oftomologists in my country. Within 2 minutes she told me it needed to come out and it could be done thay same day. I was in utter shock. Unfortunately I had fed him that morning which disqualified him from anesthesia. So we scheduled it for this morning. The eye has been successfully removed and hes recovering now.

But wow what a crazy 2 days its been. I was completely blindsided. I always knew it may eventually need removal, but not a single vet we've seen throughout the past 6 years never seemed concerned for it. The eye turned quickly.

I just wanted to come on here and make a PSA to really protect those eyes. These double merle/albino eyes dont have pigment, so they cannot protect themselves from UV rays. My dogs eye essentially was atrofying. We lived in mainland florida for many years, then key west for another 4, and now we are in coastal central america. Since the eye never worked, he never really protected it much from the sun. If I could give any advice, it would be to start training your light eyed dogs to wear sun protection.

Any and all healing thoughts and vibes are welcome for my boy Chucho

Day 4 starting a new batch from self-brewed and bottled flavored kombucha

Second attempt at restarting my brew from finished kombucha

Hey everyone. I recently tortured my scoby by getting my ratios wrong upon scaling down from 8L brew to 1/2 gallon. I now see i added entirely too much sugar for 1/2 gal (1 cup), which would explain its demise by mold. So im starting over with a finished bottle of kombucha, which is all I have left of my starter. If you could assess my ratios and advise me if im still incorrect id be delighted.

Brewed ~3 tbps black tea with 4 cups of water.

Added 1/2 cup of sugar to dissolve.

Added 2 cups of cool water, then added my 1.5 cups of kombucha/ starter back in.

Mil gracias

Worn out chacos

My sister has 2 pairs of chacos sandals. She has worn them down and now 3 out of 4 sandals have holes in the bottom. Chacos will repair them for $50 USD but shes not interested in putting more money into them. Anyone know what can be done with them? Donation centers Will likely throw them away.

Conversely, if anybody wants them, all she asks is for you to pay shipping. Size kids 5/women's 7. They would ship from NJ

Finally, a win in my migraine journey

My husband and i moved overseas a year ago after many circumstances that led us here. My biggest stressor was amassing triptans as I wasn't sure how quickly I'd be able to get into a neurologist, or navigate the Healthcare system here.

I was able to get 90 triptans from an equal access clinic in florida before leaving. Today i have 4 left of those 90. I wont say its been easy acclimating to a new country, but today I called my new Healthcare provider to schedule an appointment to reassess my triptan use, and perhaps other options. She said to me "we can absolutely discuss other options, but just so you know, triptans are available at the pharmacy without a prescription should you need more before our appointment." 😭🥲

I fought for 4 years to get an abortive that worked for me. I was on military Healthcare, which can difficult to get what you need when the system itself is flawed and difficult. I am just so relieved and happy. I feel free.

Anyone else's do an evening inventory of the treat basket?

He just stands there until i give him something or gets tired of being ignored.
My boy is deaf, so we have a sign for "good boy". Typically its given After he goes out to potty and comes right back, followed by a treat. So of course when he gets a good boy right after dinner he goes directly to the treat basket. 🤣

Just want to share a fun serger offcut disposal system my husband 3d printed for me 🤣

We live in an RV, so maintaining a thread-free space is essential. I have 2 dogs and an insane fear of them swallowing bits of thread so this is what we came up with

Super astringent fruit from a tree on the property. Gardener calls them "uvillas" but taste nowhere near a grape. Coastal guatemala

Im thinking jabuticaba but they grow in clusters and not from the trunk. Will try to get a picture of the tree today. Taste is sort of...tasteless haha. A tiny amount of citrus fruit. Its juicy but astringent so it kind of sucks the moisture out of your mouth. Not super enjoyable but he said they make wine from them. Pacific coast, guatemala.

EDIT: "Uvitas" my apologies. Uvillas are ground cherries, producing a yellow-orange fruit which i actually grow.

What should serger stitches look like from the outside?

Hello experts. I am sewing spandexs/lycras only. Im curious if im on the right track with how my stitches should look from the outside.

Photos 1, 2, 3: before adjusting tensions to the manual's specs for spandex.

1- from right side of fabric.

2- front stitching.

3- back stitching.

Photo 4: before and after adjusting. The stitches to the right side are narrower, indicating the slightly high tension. Left line was before.

A professional told me I had "laddering" (5th photo) and have since adjusted my tension discs to the following, 6th photo.

These are bathing suits. So stretching will happen of course. But wouls you say the right stitched line on photo 4 is okay? Or still too loose?

Having some stretch fabric troubleshooting issues with my Brother ce1100prw (project runway edition)

Hi everyone. Im sewing swimwear. Right now i am having a go at seam binding using lycra and elastic. Im sewing through several layers of lycra, sandwiching swimwear rubber elastic between all of it. Trying to use my regular machine to zig zag it all down, and my machine is behaving oddly. See photos. Skipping stitches, loose stitching, bunching on the underside.

Things ive done to troubleshoot:

- changed to a fresh 75/11 ballpoint stretch needle

-upped tension which helped slightly

- tried sewing on paper which gave me a nicer stitch appearance but the thread started bunching on underside.

Not sure whay to try from here. Im using my serger for most of these projects, aside from baste stitching (which works fine) but when it comes to zig zag on the lycra, im really struggling. Any advice welcome!

Serger question regarding stitchlength (i think)

Im sewing swimwear. Here is a strap i have made. Should the yellow (left needle thread) be visible from the outside of the finished garment?

Second photo is a sample after adjuating stitch length, first photo is the strap finished, elastic sewn in and turned right side out.

For reference I am using an older BabyLock 5280e. Stitch length is at 3.5mm although hasn't changed much in appearance after changing to 3mm.

Third photo is my other settings. Feed diff is neutral as I am sewing lycra.

Any thoughts? Am I headed in the right direction? Thanks for any tips

Where in these DNA results does this massive neck come from? 😂

Top 3 breeds:

58% Australian cattle dog.

12% American foxhound.

8% beagle

Boys got neck! (Definitely not hurting him, he inches closer for more neck smooshing)

Choose the correct needle for home sewing machine

Hello everyone. I just posted regarding the correct needles for stretch fabrics for my 1980s Babylock serger. I am also looking for some guidance with my home machine, it is a Brother CE1100PRW.

The manual states that for stretch fabrics I should use size 50-60 in 75/11-90/14 ball point needles. Please help me understand that haha. I have been on youtube trying to learn what exactly that means but it seems every brand has their own measurement system. I have always used the needles that came with the machine, but I am sewing more often now, that specifically swimwear now, so I want to upgrade to the correct sizes. So...which brand is your go-to for your home Brother machine?

Needle help please!

Hey everyone. I recently took in a Babylock 5280E. Shes older, from the 1980s, so unfortunately there isn't a ton of info online about it, especially troubleshooting. So I am hoping someone else here is using this machine as well.

One needle was broken so I am replacing them both, I purchased size 14 Organ brand needles, in DCx1F, as per the manual. They are on the way, although I am generally uninformed about needles. The manual for this machine leaves a lot to be desired as far as details.

https://preview.redd.it/0hgxz7jtqq6h1.jpg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=154574ebda9cb95c33e55cca1bd5a48fc7c59195

I will be using this machine primarily for swimwear, so I was curious if those needles would be okay for lycra and other highly stretchy synthetics. The manual says this size is good for light, medium and heavy weight fabrics, including knits and wovens, but my mom always told me older machines were made for fabrics of the time. If you have used this machine, will I be able to sew bathing suits with ease?

Screwed up big-time. Can I recover?

Hi everyone. I recently posted about screwing up my brew, I had to move it from my cooler climate home to the hot and humid coast mid-brew.

We'll it grew some black mold spores, first time in years I've ever seen mold on my kombucha. Im still not sure what happened but im pretty bummed out and feeling like a failure.

So now I dont have a backup scoby either. I dont know anyone in my new location yet to get a bit of scoby from.. But I do have some bottles of finished kombucha. However, they are flavored. Can this still work to make a new batch and build my starter scoby back up?

If YES: As its already carbonated, how would I transition it back into a starter liquid? Does the carbonation change anything for the next brew? Help please !

Edit to say, yes I threw the entire batch out.

Serger needle question

I was given a giant box of sewing notions and there's a tin box full of needles. I need size 14 for my serger, which most of these are. But I specifically need DC X 1F. Is there any way to tell if any of these are the right needle? Or do I just have a box of junk now? They all shave 14 scribes so small but no other identifiers
