Any ideas how the sheer fabric is affixed to the jeans?

I saw someone wearing these on IG and thought it would be a cool way to upcycle some jeans that are ripped beyond repair. I'm wondering the best way to "install" the sheer fabric to achieve this look. The edges look super smooth so I was thinking maybe fabric glue? Or a layer of something fusible in between and then pressed?

Graduation dress!

Pattern: vogue 8766, view c
Fabric: black cherry taffeta from silk baron, black silk organza from mood, cotton duck for the underlining, cotton voile for the lining
Bead pattern copied from this Pinterest post: https://pin.it/sGudMzZvx
Beads: assorted brands and shapes from fire mountain gems
Gold work: Maydel

The beads took me about a week of working on it every day for a couple movies a day at least. Part of it took so long because I got acrylic nails half way through the project and it made everything harder.

The dress took me 2.5 full days. I learned how to use my invisible hem foot and that saved me HOURS of hand hemming the skirt. I learned how to use my stitch in the ditch attachment for my walking foot. I can’t believe I haven’t been using that for the past 6 years.

The degree took me 3 years.

I did not follow the vogue instructions. I don’t know what they’re trying to tell me. I constructed the bodice by creating boning channels by sewing the lining and underlining together, and added extra boning around the zipper. I added a waist tape. Then I attached the lining skirt to the lining bodice.
I flat lined the fashion fabric (taffeta) with black silk organza to help support the beads on the front panel. Then I wanted a uniform stiffness/look, so I flatlined the other taffeta bodice pieces as well.
I attached the lining to the fashion fabric at the top and the zipper.

I was making this up until the day before I left for graduation so there are a lot of small mistakes. The invisible zipper is not always invisible. The hem is imperfect and somehow ended up gathered in some places. I couldn’t remember when i attached the zipper vs understitch the top seam last time. I chose the wrong order this time because it came out pretty strange. Even with all the imperfections I think it fits nicer and is a nicer quality in construction and fabric than I could afford at any store. And of course, nobody noticed, or commented on, the mistakes.

P.s. I have made a few things since my last post I just haven’t posted them. I promise I can make things other than this dress lol

I sew bags from Polish communist era tablecloths that I find in thrift stores

I absolutely love the aesthetic of this period in Poland. There are so many floral motifs, and everything has a total vintage vibe. The goal was to make the bags look like they were taken straight off a Slavic grandma’s armchair, and I think I achieved exactly that.

A huge plus is that these bags are completely unique - nobody else will have the same one, because they are literally made out of tablecloths.

I usually buy these tablecloths for literally a few PLN (maximum ~2€/$) in second hand stores (most of them are from Vinted, but I think this app is popular in several countries in Europe only). Textile items from this period in Poland aren't worth much, but that's a win for me actually - the bag from the first photo is 90% cotton, the second one is 100% linen.

I'm completely self-taught, but sewing is a lot of fun for me. I hope you like it ❤️ And sorry for the model, that's a cardboard life-size Polish strongman we got for marriage anniversary, I don't have any other idea how to show off my bags.

Does this sewing 'pattern' look right?

Hello! I found this cute jumpsuit online, but it is quite pricey and I feel like it would not be that hard to make myself. I have drawn a 'pattern' (more like a plan), but... Is it really that easy?

Does it look good to you guys? Anything I'm missing? I haven't really drafted my own patterns often, so I'm afraid it might not be as easy as I am thinking...

A baby blanket I made for a friend!

I made this blanket for a friend. The name is embroidered by hand, I haven't tried a satin stitch before but I'm satisfied with the result! I used cotton poplin and piqué fabric.

You can find the tutorial for the blanket here, it's very simple for beginners!

Made a whimsical corset and skirt!

Corset pattern is by TaylorJeanCox on Etsy, link is https://www.etsy.com/listing/4456275386/corset-sewing-digital-pattern-boned?ref=share\_ios\_native\_control

Skirt pattern is from Pattern Couture also on Etsy, https://www.etsy.com/listing/4336938193/maxi-skirt-sewing-pattern-high-waist?ref=share\_ios\_native\_control

I had to alter the pattern a bit, to fit my bust, waist, and hip, ratio, by connecting my bust size, to the next size up, with a curved ruler. I left it a bit small on purpose because I like a strip of skin showing on the back. Just my personal preference 😊 also it’s really hard lacing it up properly by yourself lol.

The corset is 100% black quilting cotton fused with sf101,
On both the outer corset pieces and the lining pieces. Once I applied the interfacing; I embroidered the panels on my machine. I took a guess with placement, then sewed the panels together! I used spiral steel pre cut boning strips for ease and flexibility. I added decorative stitched adjustable straps, and off the shoulder green chiffon sleeves. And finished her off with gold grommets.

The skirt was much simpler, I stuck to the patterned except, I removed the layer of lining to make it lighter and cooler. I used 100% cotton I got from a Vegas quilt shop, called Sew Yeah Quilting. It a sparkly green with different shades mixed in and I love it! I’m also very happy that the whole outfit is cotton!

The corset took me 6-7 hours with embroidery time and the skirt another 2-3 hours. It was a super fun project! And I’m thinking a great ren fare outfit!

I made a jacket out of a thrifted mens shirt

I really wanted a jacket like this for the spring, so I made a similar one out of a thrifted mens denim shirt I had in my closet already.
I had already dyed it brown previously in the hopes that I would wear it as is but I didn’t.
I just took in the sides, shortened it, made new cuffs and collar, and moved the breast pockets down to be regular pockets.
It’s definitely full of mistakes but I’m proud of myself for my first jacket, especially just going in blind with no plan. The polka dot fabric is just a scrap piece of cotton from the discount bin at the fabric store.
(The first picture is not the exact shirt, I forgot to take a picture before cutting it up, but it’s the same style and brand, just snaps instead of denim buttons)

I made a cosplay coat for comic con

I made this comic con cosplay costume for a friend. Based on Grell Sutcliff from Black Buttler. I watched the entire anime just to observe the coat construction before cutting the fabric. Took 3 weeks to finish. What you do you guys think 😊

Sewing machine skipping stitches on stretch fabric and stitches coming out as straight?

Using a stretch needle. With a jersey needle the bobbin didn’t catch at all. Zigzag appears normal on non-stretch fabric.
Machine is a vintage singer 503A

How to stop glitter from shedding EVERYWHERE 😓 out

Recently made this gorgeous ribbon skirt for my sister, she really wanted this lace over top so i did that. It looks amazing, she got so many compliments at school. Only problem is.... the glitter goes EVERYWHERE, like its to the point where she can't sit down or else where she sits is full of glitter.

How can i fix this or at least tone down the amount that falls?

First time sewing bust darts

I made this top using the sadie top pattern.

I’d still consider myself beginner-intermediate at sweing, so I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. I absolutely love this cotton fabric. The colors and pattern are so fun 💜

I’m still not fully happy with my gathers (gathers are difficult 😭), but overall I really love the final result. One thing I especially appreciated about the pattern was the option to add hook and eye tape for a more modest fit. Before adding it, there was a huge gap at the center bodice and I thought I had made the top too small. But once I added the hooks, the fit improved SO much. I never would’ve thought such a small detail could make that big of a difference!

Birthday dress out of vintage thrifted fabric!

Found some adorable vintage fabric at the thrift store that was so nostalgic I instantly knew I wanted to make it into a mini dress with lots of ruffles! I don't know for sure but I think it may be a cotton fabric.

I didn't use a pattern to make this but here's roughly how it went: I folded the fabric into quarters so the front and back would be one piece then I laid a loose tank top on the fold line to get the shape of the neck holes, straps and arm holes ( I made the arm holes a bit bigger afterwards). I drew a line from the bottom of the armhole to the edge of the fabric where I wanted the dress to end for the side seams. Since I wanted it to be more flowy I added in two long trapezoid shaped panels on the side (see pic 2) and then ties at the bottom of the armholes to bring it in at that point. For the ruffles I cut strips of the fabric and joined them together to get a long enough piece and did a rolled hem (sorta it wasn't as tight as I wanted) on the edges with a contrasting blue thread, then after ruffling(?) them I sewed them onto the dress along the neckline and the bottom of the dress. Then I finished it off with a small red velvet ribbon bow (attached with a safety pin so I can remove it if I want to).

If I had to do it again I would've planned out measurements for the ruffles instead of just going for it. I love how the ruffles turned out but they easily took almost twice as long to finish since they were so long. Also I think because the fabric has a looser weave the rolled hem on the serger would grab the edges of the fabric and just pull away from the edge so I had to redo many portions of it and for some places I just took it onto my sewing machine and did a zigzag stitch across it.

Overall this was probably the most successful vision to execution conversion I've ever done and I'm pretty happy with this!!

Made a dess out of a shirt!

I thrifted a 5xl pumpkin orange shirt and turned it into a dress.

I wanted an aline shape so I used another shirt dress that I made as a pattern, reused the sleeves and folded, hemmed them. The short sleeves fit like wide cap sleeves. I also tightened the neck.

+ Bonus photos of the dress after I block printed on it.

Tight curves when sewing bias fold trim

I’m making this stay/corset for my day. She wants to wear it at an upcoming Renaissance festival. I’m a bit rusty and and insufferable perfectionist so am wondering if… is there a magic trick to get the bias fold trim around the tight curves?

I had considered running a basting stitch along the curve (similar to what you would do to ease in a sleeve cap) but is there another option?

I snipped the edge of the bias tape to help with the curvature but it’s still not “perfect”. I haven’t pressed this yet, either.

TIA

How can I replicate Cher’s scarf top and make it stay up?

I want to recreate this top for a dance performance. I have a broad idea of how to do it, but I’d like to get some opinions on how you’d approach creating this in a way that will be secure to move in on stage. If it helps, I am pretty flat chested.

Flowy, tiered dress

I understand that this is lots of rectangles with increasing size, but if you know of a good way to calculate yardage for each panel I would love the help!

Just discovered HHB doesn’t have a top thread- help!

I’m in the last-minute throes of finishing a flower girl dress and *just now* realized that the HHB doesn’t have a top thread! I sewed the edge that clearly did not have a thread to the edge of the fabric, laid the skirt out to smooth it out, and realized that there is. no. top. thread.

(This is the product that Mood recommended.)

How do I fix this?? Tearing this all out isn’t an option and I really have no way of getting more HHB in time.

Confused about sizing

Hey,

I am very confused at the moment. My waist measurement is 30 inch (76cm) so I should take size 16 regarding the table. But on the pattern itself it says the waistline is 34inch for size 16.

Can somebody explain to me which size to follow?

Please help me fix these pants I messed up!

Bought a new pair of Faherty jeans—pricey but very good quality and the fit is great, except that they’re a bit short (any other tall girls out there?), so I thought I’d just let out the bottom hem, which would give me a nice two inches or so. Some seam ripping later, I found out that the jeans were died AFTER being hemmed—so this newly exposed fabric hasn’t been treated. Now I have dark blue cuffs. What should I do? Try to bleach (somehow?) the bottom so the color difference isn’t quite as severe? Rock the two-tone cuffs?
