35 year old serger?

I’m wanting to get a serger and I have a family friend who will give this one to me for free, but is it worth it or should I keep looking for a newer used one or just purchase a new one? This one is 35+ years old! I don’t know anything about sergers, any advice is appreciated!

Accidentally made two of the same legs

I feel so stupid!! Is there any way to fix this? Also how did this even happen? I can’t wrap my brain around it
