What is this? Found during low tide on the coast of California

Any help identifying what this is or what it’s from? My theory is some piece pottery I’m just curious how old it could be.

Weekend Finds in the Pacific NW, USA

Low, low tide was so lovely and less rushed. Along with the sea glass and pottery are some special finds - a piece of red, lavenders and agates. A bottle neck is among the green pieces. The small, intact chitons really delight me with their patterns.

Cleaning out grandparent’s house after they passed.

It’s not a bell, nothing moves inside and the handle is firmly attached. 2nd picture for size. It was in a box with a note on it written “India”. They never went to India though.

EDIT: The stick is welded to the inside of the ball. So i do not think it’s a Kajal/Surma stick.

before and after cleaning

i know a lot of people liked the look of the bryozoans, but if i’m being honest they make my skin crawl a little (trypophobia) so i wanted to share the shell after its cleaning!

i’m very happy with how it turned out. :)

how i cleaned: i boiled it and then let it dry. then i soaked it in water and used tweezers to scrape off the bryozoans. they actually came off easier when they were damp rather than dry. then i brushed gently with a soft toothbrush and soap, and painted on a bit of mineral oil to finish.

Found on Alaska Beach

Looking to ID these. Google searches lead me to believe they are antique cable insulators made from perhaps porcelain, with glass insides.

AI says this: These are vintage undersea communication cable insulators, likely dating back to the early 20th century (circa 1900–1904).

These pieces are remnants of the early telegraph era in Alaska—possibly the Washington-Alaska Military Cable and Telegraph System (WAMCATS)—which was the primary communication link between Alaska and the lower 48 states during the pioneer era.

I have one in tact and one that one of my curious children split in half. These were found on two different Alaska beaches, both found this year.

Thank you.

Found a bunch of these at Topsail Beach, North Carolina a few years back. Anyone know exactly what they are?

They look like fat domed sand dollars, are they recent or very old? Thanks for any info!!

Went to topsail island NC with my GF yesterday looking for sharks teeth and managed to find 1 at least!

I was searching for sea glass as well and maybe unique shells. The only good find was this sharks tooth and a round/smooth quartz rock but hey! I’ll take it! I don’t find them often so I am happy!
