🔷Intake:
He came into BARC on 10/6 after a citizen reported a large black, gray and white Husky who would not leave her property. The citizen reported that he was growling and appeared to have been injured over the weekend.
📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:
10/6: The intake report stated that he was growling at a citizen and would not leave her property. He appeared to be injured.
No additional behavioral evaluations were provided in his shelter record.
🚑𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:
10/8: He weighed 56 lbs and received a 5/9 injured medical assessment.
10/7: Medical staff documented an injury to his right hind leg. He was not bearing weight on the leg, and it was painful to the touch.
10/7: Staff noted that he was stiff when rising from a lying position, was not bearing weight on his right hind limb and had moderate muscle atrophy. He was prescribed Carprofen 100 mg once daily for 7 days for pain and inflammation. Radiographs were planned for 10/8.
Heartworm Negative.
Received routine intake vaccines, deworming and flea prevention.
💖 Garrus is an 8-year-old Husky should be spending his senior years somewhere safe and comfortable, not facing euthanasia while suffering from a painful leg injury. He arrived at BARC after being found on someone's property, where he was reportedly growling and refusing to leave. We now know that he has a significant injury to his right hind leg, is unable to bear weight on it and has moderate muscle atrophy. It's likely that his growling was influenced by pain, fear and the vulnerability of being injured in an unfamiliar place. Unfortunately, we have no additional behavioral notes to tell us what he's like when he feels safe and comfortable. What we do know is that this older boy is hurting and needs help. At 8 years old, he still deserves the chance to experience love, comfort and security. He shouldn't lose his life simply because he was found injured and frightened. He needs someone willing to see beyond his circumstances and give him the care and compassion he deserves.

Meet Salami, a 4-year-old girl with a wonderfully happy, affectionate personality! Her shelter notes describe a wiggly body, a high wagging tail, happy feet, and a soft, smiling expression whenever staff approach. She gets so excited to see people that she sometimes bounces and hops with happiness! Despite all that enthusiasm, she has repeatedly shown that she can walk nicely on a loose leash and is easy for staff to handle. ❤️

Salami is heartworm-negative, but she is currently being treated for a treatable upper respiratory infection (URI). She deserves the chance to recover in a safe, loving environment instead of spending another day in the stressful shelter. Sadly, Salami is on the euthanasia list for TODAY, Saturday, October 10. • 10/5: Salami greeted staff with happy feet and panting. She was easily leashed and walked on a semi-tight leash. She was very excited, circling with a wagging tail, and was not interested in treats. Staff later observed her resting on her bed.
• 10/4: She greeted staff with a relaxed body, high wagging tail, and happy feet. She walked on a loose leash, occasionally jumping around. She was sometimes vocal throughout the day, but not consistently.
• 10/3: She was vocal in her kennel during morning feeding and cleaning. She greeted staff with a relaxed body, high wagging tail, and soft, open mouth with a loose tongue. She walked on a loose leash, occasionally jumping around, and moved in and out of the South building without issues.
• 10/2: She was vocal in her kennel during morning feeding and cleaning. She displayed a very wiggly body, a soft, smiling mouth, and a loose tongue while bouncing around. She walked on a loose leash while happily hopping around.

• 10/7: Staff observed hacking and clear nasal discharge. Salami was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection and moved to treatment. Doxycycline 300 mg once daily for 10 days was prescribed.
• 9/27: Salami weighed 72 lbs. Her initial medical examination was documented as normal. She tested heartworm-negative.

Salami's enthusiasm for life shines through in her shelter notes. She greets people with a wagging tail, happy little hops, and a soft, smiling expression. She has repeatedly shown that she can walk nicely on a loose leash and is easy for staff to handle. Although she can be vocal in her kennel, particularly during busy feeding and cleaning times, she has also been observed resting quietly on her bed.

She is currently receiving treatment for a respiratory infection, and her heartworm test was negative. A foster or adopter who can offer her patience, positive attention, and time to settle into a predictable routine could give her the fresh start she desperately needs.

Shelter Notes:
10/7: Velvet was vocalizing nonstop in her kennel and tried to pull down the covering placed over it, shredding the material. She reacted to another dog near her kennel by biting and tugging at the kennel door. Once leashed, she pulled toward other dogs while vocalizing. Staff attempted to redirect her with treats, but she showed no interest.
10/5: Velvet was sitting at the front of her kennel with soft eyes, a low-wagging tail, loose body and ears up. She walked on a loose leash and was friendly toward staff going to and from the outside runs. While in the runs, she sat near the gate and began vocalizing whenever staff passed her kennel. On the way back, Velvet saw another dog and tried to pull toward it. She ignored treats and continued pulling until staff used a muzzle and carried her back to her kennel.
10/4: Velvet greeted staff with soft eyes, a low-wagging tail, loose body and ears up. She walked on a loose leash and was friendly toward staff going to and from the outside runs. While in the runs, she sat near the gate and vocalized whenever staff passed her kennel.
10/3: Velvet was sitting at the front of her kennel with soft eyes, a low-wagging tail, loose body and ears up. She walked on a loose leash and was friendly toward staff. Later, a volunteer walked her and reported that she was very friendly and welcoming toward children and adults in the runs.
10/2: Velvet was very vocal during morning kennel activities. She walked on a semi-tight leash and occasionally showed interest in treats.
9/30: Velvet greeted staff at the front of her kennel with a loose, wiggly body, soft eyes and a fast-wagging tail. She was easily leashed and walked outside to the runs on a loose leash. She was easily leashed and returned to her kennel.
9/27: Velvet greeted staff with a fast-wagging tail and wiggly body. Staff noted that she has a lot of energy and becomes excited when there is an opportunity for interaction. She jumped on her kennel door, wagged her tail and whined excitedly. On leash, she zigzagged to and from the potty yard. Inside her kennel, she waited by the door for interaction.
9/26: Velvet was whining in her kennel and bolted out during morning cleaning. She had a wiggly body, wagging tail and jumped onto the kennel door. Once leashed, she walked on a loose leash.
9/25: Velvet was vocalizing in a high-pitched tone during morning cleaning and while interacting with a customer.
9/20: Velvet barked constantly in a high pitch and jumped inside her kennel, knocking over her water bowl. Staff also noted that she was quiet when approached and appeared eager for attention. She accepted petting but began barking again when staff walked away. She was described as friendly overall.
9/19: Velvet was consistently screaming whenever staff walked past her kennel. Covering the kennel did not stop the vocalizing, and she attempted to pull the covering inside.
9/17: Velvet was described as extremely friendly, sweet and submissive. She rolled over to expose her belly and was gentle with staff.
Medical Notes:
10/5: Velvet weighed 31.4 lbs. Staff reported nasal discharge and coughing. She was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) and moved to the treatment room. Doxycycline 150 mg once daily for 10 days was prescribed.
10/1: Medical examination documented as normal.
9/28: Velvet was spayed. Her surgical record noted that she was in heat at the time of surgery. No complications were documented.
9/17: Velvet weighed 31 lbs at intake. Her initial medical examination was normal, and she tested heartworm negative. She received routine vaccinations, deworming and parasite prevention.
Velvet is a young, affectionate 31-pound girl who loves people but appears to be struggling tremendously with the confinement and stimulation of the shelter environment. Her notes consistently describe a friendly, wiggly dog who greets handlers with soft eyes and a wagging tail, enjoys affection and has walked nicely on a loose leash on numerous occasions. A volunteer even described her as friendly and welcoming toward both children and adults in the outdoor runs. Velvet would benefit from an experienced foster or adopter who can provide a calm, structured environment, allow her time to decompress and manage her safely away from other dogs while her behavior is assessed. She is also receiving treatment for an upper respiratory infection. Underneath all the noise and stress, Velvet has repeatedly shown a sweet, affectionate side that deserves a chance to thrive outside the shelter.

9/28/2026 Stray | Siberian Husky Mix | Male | 5 Years | 38 lbs | Heartworm Negative

💖 Kylan's shelter notes show encouraging interactions with people, even though the shelter environment is clearly stressful for him.

On 10/1, he greeted staff at the front of his kennel with a loose, wiggly body, soft eyes, open mouth and swaying tail. He was easily leashed, walked outside on a loose leash and returned to his kennel without difficulty.

On 10/4 and 10/5, Kylan was pacing in front of his kennel and showing signs of stress. He pulled somewhat on leash, but staff were able to walk him and work with him. On 10/6, he again greeted staff at the front of his kennel and was able to be redirected with treats when he pulled on leash.

⚠️ Kylan has also been documented fighting with the dog across from his kennel, so his interactions with other dogs will need to be carefully managed and assessed.

Medically, Kylan is heartworm negative. He was vaccinated, dewormed and given flea prevention. His weight was documented as 38 lbs on 9/29 and 10/1, with an underweight assessment noted on 9/29.

💔 Kylan appears to be experiencing significant kennel stress, but he has also repeatedly shown friendly, engaged behavior with staff. He needs a calmer environment where he can decompress and where his behavior can be better assessed outside the stress of the shelter.

📝 Shelter Notes:

9/30: Mia was at her kennel door with an open-mouth smile, panting, dilated eyes and fast happy tail. She was easy to leash and walked on a loose leash outside to the run. Staff noted that she is highly vocal in her kennel, crying nonstop when she is in her kennel, sees someone nearby or hears activity.

9/29: Mia greeted staff at the front of her kennel with a soft smile, soft eyes, relaxed body and soft wagging tail. She was easily leashed and walked on a loose leash outside to the runs and back. Staff noted periodic crying throughout the day when lots of people were nearby.

9/28: Mia was very vocal in her kennel and would stand against the window or door. When staff went to leash her, she got down with a happy tail and body and was easy to leash. She walked semi-pulling on the leash to the runs and back.

9/26: Mia continued to be vocal while waiting to go outside because she had not pottied in her kennel. She quieted after going outside. During an earlier morning walk, she was easily leashed and walked loosely with a neutral body and a curled wagging tail with an open mouth.

9/25: Mia was vocal during morning cleaning. She greeted staff with dilated eyes and perked ears. She walked semi-loosely on leash, stopped to interact with another employee and flopped onto her back for belly rubs with a relaxed body and open mouth.

9/23: Mia was quiet in the morning and kept her kennel clean throughout the night. She was easy to leash and walked on a loose leash, greeting neighboring dogs with a wagging tail and relaxed body.

9/22: Mia greeted staff at the front of her kennel with a soft smile, soft eyes, relaxed body and soft wagging tail. She was easily leashed and walked on a loose leash outside to the runs. Staff noted periodic crying throughout the day when lots of people were nearby.

9/21: Mia had a fast-wagging tail and body and was easy to leash and walk on a loose lead. In her kennel, she displayed high-pitched vocalizing when she heard someone nearby for a long period of time, but staff could redirect her with a toy.

9/20: Mia addressed staff with an open-mouth smile, soft eyes, relaxed body and soft wagging tail. She was easily leashed and walked loosely to and from the potty yard. In her kennel, she displayed high-pitched vocalizing when she heard someone nearby for long periods of time but could be redirected.

9/17: Mia had a relaxed body, wagging tail and soft smiling mouth. As staff approached, she walked forward and waited to be leashed before stepping out. She walked on a loose leash and followed a treat trail on the way to the runs.

🩺 Medical Notes:

9/24: Mia weighs 46.2 lbs. Her medical exam was documented as normal.

Mia is heartworm negative.

💖 Mia is a social, affectionate 3-year-old girl whose biggest struggle appears to be the stress and isolation of kennel life. Her notes consistently describe a soft, relaxed dog outside of her kennel—she walks nicely on leash, greets people with a wagging tail and soft smile, seeks interaction and has even flopped onto her back for belly rubs. She has also greeted neighboring dogs with a relaxed body and wagging tail. Inside her kennel, however, Mia frequently cries and vocalizes when she hears or sees people nearby, suggesting she may be struggling with confinement and wanting interaction. She has shown that she can settle after getting outside and has sometimes been redirected with toys. Mia would likely thrive in a home where she can decompress, receive regular companionship and finally get a break from the stressful kennel environment. 🩷

📝 Shelter Notes:

9/17: Shayla was wiggly at the front of the kennel door with floppy ears. She was easy to leash and walked loosely. As she got closer to the other dogs in the run, she remained wiggly with a fast-wagging tail.

9/11: Shayla greeted staff at the front of her kennel with a wagging tail, took treats and walked on a loose leash.

9/9: Shayla greeted staff at the front of her kennel with a relaxed body, soft eyes and a soft expression. She was easily leashed and walked outside to the runs on a semi-loose leash. She was easily leashed and returned to her kennel.

9/9: Shayla greeted staff at the front of her kennel with a loose, wiggly body. She was easy to leash and walked on a loose leash to and from the runs.

🩺 Medical Notes:

10/1: Shayla weighs 46 lbs. Cow-patty stool was observed. She was assessed with gastrointestinal distress, possibly stress-related, and was prescribed Panacur and metronidazole for 5 days.

9/27: Shayla was sneezing and had a honking cough. She was diagnosed with canine infectious respiratory disease and prescribed doxycycline for 10 days.

9/23: Medical exam documented as normal.

9/9: Medical exam documented as normal. Shayla is heartworm negative.

💖 Shayla is a young, wiggly girl whose shelter notes consistently describe a friendly, relaxed and easy-to-handle dog. She has greeted staff with soft eyes, a wagging tail and a loose body, readily takes treats, and has repeatedly walked nicely on a loose or semi-loose leash. She has even remained wiggly and happy when approaching other dogs in the runs. Shayla is currently dealing with some gastrointestinal upset after several weeks in the shelter, along with a recently treated respiratory infection, but she remains a sweet young dog who desperately needs a chance outside of the kennel. A home could give Shayla the quiet place she needs to recover, decompress and let her affectionate personality shine. 🩷
