4yr old Mikey is on 5/23 euthanasia deadline ๐Ÿšจ NYC Shelter ๐Ÿšจ

Please comment share pledge foster adopt rescue

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1aarrGUmRY/?mibextid=wwXIfr

TO BE EUTHANIZED 5/23/26
A Volunteer Writes: "As I watch back my videos of Mikey, I hear myself saying โ€œMikey!!โ€ And Youโ€™re a good boyโ€ over and over again. I say that a lot at the shelter. One, because itโ€™s filled with good boys and good girls. And, two, because sometimes dogs come in that make me think they havenโ€™t been told this enough or maybe even ever. Though we have no history for Mikey, we can only infer he falls into the latter group: between the lack of physical care heโ€™s had and being brought in by police after roaming Brooklyn alone. Still, Mikey stays optimistic. He is loose and wiggly and oh so playful. In fact, itโ€™s so hard to get good video of him because heโ€™s a blur of happiness. He loves toys and seems to TREASURE the fish plushy we have to offer him. No matter what path Mikeyโ€™s trajectory takes, at least he will know that someone thought he is a VERY GOOD BOY!

Though Mikey was described as very friendly and outgoing by the police who brought him in, he has shown sensitivity around being collared and leashed. For this reason, he is at risk and available through a New Hope Rescue partner. Medically, he has suspected allergies and alopecia around his eyes for which he is being given apoquel. Mikey is approx. 4 years old, 57 pounds and his ID is #252968."

THE VOLUNTEERS MADE THIS ADORABLE REEL FOR MIKEY. What a cutie pie!
https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1BC651DkxD/

MIKEY, Id 252968, @4 Yrs. Old, 57 lbs., Male
Queens ACC, Medium Mixed Breed, Brown
Owner Surrender Reason: 4/26/26 - Stray
Behavior Assessment Rating: New Hope Only
Recommendations:
No children under 13
Place with a New Hope Partner
Medical Behavior Rating: 4. Orange

AT RISK MEMO:
Mikey is at risk due to behavioral concerns. While Mikey has been sociable during most interactions โ€“ loose bodied, leaning into petting along his body after he has chosen to solicit โ€“ he has presented with sensitivity around his neck. Mikey had escalated to growling and snapping during attempts to collar him for a handling assessment and intermittently when clipping leads to return him to the kennel. Medically, Mikey has alopecia, dental disease, pyoderma and an ear infection.

Mikey came into the care center as a stray. Mikey has no acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. Mikey will approach for petting but will quickly become overstimulated. We recommend placement with a New Hope Partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.

INTAKE NOTES โ€“ Date of Intake: 26-Apr-2026
Upon intake Mikey was friendly and outgoing with counselors allowing all handling such as scanning for microchip and collaring. He then walked back to medical where he was vaccinated and entered his kennel without any assistance. All done without any concerns.

OWNER SURRENDER NOTES โ€“ BASIC INFORMATION:
n/a

BEHAVIOR NOTES

Date of intake:: 4/26/2026
Means of surrender (length of time in previous home):: Stray(Unknown History)

SHELTER ASSESSMENT SUMMARIES:
Date of assessment:: 5/2/2026

Summary:: 5/15/26: Mikey is taken to the behavior office for a handling assessment. He approaches the assessor with an open mouth, panting and wagging tail. He takes treats from the handlers. When attempts are made to collar him, he jumps at the assessor, low growling. Due to this, a handling assessment will not be conducted at this time.

5/2/26: Mikey is currently unable to undergo a handling assessment due to his ongoing medical concerns. He was surrendered as a stray, so his past behavior in a home setting is unknown. In the Care Centers,During mikey medical exam, he is noted to display a loose and wiggly but starts to growl when being touched and escalates to hard barking and lunging. His determination is reflected in the limited behavioral information we've gathered and observed. However, itโ€™s unclear whether his behavior will remain consistent or if new behaviors may emerge once he is fully medically cleared. Positive reinforcement should be used when working with Mikey

Summary (7):: 5/15/26: Mikey is standing at the front of his kennel as the handler approaches. He is able to be leashed with ease and is then taken to the behavior room for his assessment. In the room, he has a tense body as he sniffs around. When the handlers attempt to collar him, he snaps at the collar. He is able to be taken away and is then taken back to his kennel with no further issues.

5/14/26: Reported via whiteboard that Mikey can be very sweet with patience and extra coaxing

05/12/26: Mikey is standing at the front of his kennel and allows the handler to leash him with ease. He is then brought outside to the play yard for an enrichment outing. Once inside the yard, a drag leash is placed on him, and he begins exploring the environment freely. After exploring, Mikey practices sit cues with the handler. He demonstrates difficulty understanding the cue and repeatedly jumps up on the handler while attempts are made to redirect and reinforce the behavior. Despite his excitement, Mikey maintains a social and engaged demeanor throughout the session. When the session is complete, Mikey is brought back to his kennel safely without any issues.

05/05/26: Mikey is laying on his bed as the handler approaches. He walks over to the kennel door and is leashed with ease. Mikey is brought outside to the play yard. He rubs himself on the ground and the handler's legs. The handler pets him gently, and he presses himself into the handler for more pets. The handler frequently stops to do consent checks, and Mikey will continuously solicit more petting. When returning to the kennel, the handler scatters treats on the floor outside of the kennel room, and Mikey's leash is easily clipped. He is returned to kennel with no issue.

5/3: Mikey was reported to growl and attempts to bite staff when being clipped to be returned to kennel.

4/30/26 (KSV): Mikey was lying at back of kennel with his head resting on his bed and body on the floor. When he saw handler he low growled and as handler got closer to kennel he barked. Handler tossed a treat scatter into kennel and he set out sniffing to find all the treats. Once he had consumed them he sat down and looked at handler occasionally vocalizing.

INTAKE BEHAVIOR:
Date of intake:: 4/26/2026
Summary:: friendly and outgoing with counselors allowing all handling

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
Date of initial:: 4/28/2026
Summary:: loose and wiggly but starts to growl when being touched and escalates to hard barking and lunging

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Recommendations::
No children (under 13),
Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments::

No children (under 13): Due to Mikey's touch sensitivity, we recommend that he be placed in an adult-only home at this time.

Place with a New Hope partner: Mikey came into the care center as a stray. Mikey has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. Mikey will approach for petting but will quickly become overstimulated. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.

Potential challenges: : Handling/touch sensitivity,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression

Potential challenges comments:: Handling/touch sensitivity: Due to Mikey's medical concerns, he is noted to become sensitive to touch. Handling should be adjusted to accommodate his needs, using slow, deliberate movements and minimizing unnecessary touch when possible. Please see the handout on Handling/touch sensitivity.

Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: During mikey medical exam, he is noted to display a loose and wiggly but starts to growl when being touched and escalates to hard barking and lunging.Future interactions should prioritize early recognition of stress signals, low-pressure handling, and allowing breaks to help prevent escalation. Please see the handout on Fearful/potential for defensive aggression.

PHANTOM is breaking our hearts into bits. Heโ€™s a big, beautiful boy who has been betrayed by the human he trusted. In spite of his history, he has been wagging, attention seeking, smart, wiggly, gentle and he canโ€™t get enough love from his handlers.

But his past is a tragic story, when a Good Samaritan saw a maintenance worker holding Phantom on a chain. The worker said that Phantom was fighting with other dogs, yet it was Phantom who had blood on him. We donโ€™t know details such as if Phantom lived his whole life on the end of a chain, how he was treated, or anything else. We just know he needs you now, and that he IS a good boy. His most recent progress notes show him to be easily handled.

Because of his past, Phantom will need to go to an experienced home where he is the only pet. He will not get much time, his days are numbered as he recovers from his wounds in a shelter thatโ€™s so dreadfully overcrowded. Please consider fostering or adopting Phantom. Message our page right now and we will walk you through the process.

ENERGY LEVEL:
We have no history on Phantom so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: New Hope Only

Recommendations:
No children (under 13)
Single-pet home
Recommend no dog parks
Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments
No children (under 13): Due to the bite incident we recommend an adult only home.

Single Pet Home/ No Dog Parks: Due to the reported bite incident we recommend a single pet home that makes no trips to the dog park.

We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.

Potential challenges:
Bite history (dog)
On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration

Potential challenges comments:
Bite History (Dog): Please see bite history above for more details. Please see handout on Bite History and Potential for Future Aggression.

On Leash Reactivity: Phantom has been observed to be highly dog reactive and fixate on other dogs while on leash. Phantom will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than other dogs. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On Leash Reactivity and Barrier Frustration.

Sweet, friendly, young, little French Bulldog pup BILLIE needs immediate placement due to having a urethral prolapse. Please message our page IMMEDIATELY if you can possibly foster him for a rescue while he gets the medical care he needs ASAP outside of the shelter.

A staff member writes: It was discovered that Billie has a urethral prolapse and our vets are concerned about waiting too long for him to have it repaired. The prolapsed tissue is still viable at this time, but it is bordering on dark and they donโ€™t want it to become necrotic. It also has been bleeding a lot every time he is removed from his kennel or otherwise aroused. Because of this, he is being placing on an EOD deadline and should leave by 5/23 @ 5pm. He does not need to go to a hospital but should see a vet/surgeon ASAP. His bloodwork is running in house right now and he is being neutered today.

2yr old Casserole is on 5/23 euthanasia deadline โ€ผ๏ธ NYC Shelter โ€ผ๏ธ

Please comment share pledge foster adopt rescue

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1RMG1SLTHL/?mibextid=wwXIfr

TO BE EUTHANIZED 5/23/26
A Volunteer Writes: โ€œIt didnโ€™t take long for Casserole to rollover and show us his belly. Just a short play sesh in the unusually hot spring heat and he was fully โ€œbaked.โ€ We hope that we can entice him to get in the pool with a toy (we find out quickly that he LOVEs stuffies) but heโ€™d rather cool off by laying on his side, tongue lolling. Our videos are filled with comments about how handsome he is and how much we like him and though remarks such as these are common with dogs we meet in the shelter, they are nonetheless true.

Casserole was rescued by police when he was running around Flushing, Queens. Upon intake, he was friendly and outgoing. He greeted staff with a loose, wiggly body, foot taps, a wagging tail and licked their hands when he was pet. Unfortunately, Casserole has not acclimated well to the shelter and his stress has manifested by leash biting making it difficult to walk him. He will an adult only home with who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based). During a gate greet, he was neutral when meeting a female dog, when she becomes agitated, barring teeth, Casserole shows no reaction and is easily guided away. Casserole is approx. 2 years old, 78 pounds and his ID is #253567.โ€

The Volunteers made a reel for Casserole. This good boy is very sweet and loves people, he is just a product of how he is housed (kennels are absolutely tiny there, and he wants to be outside and, understandably, with people). Please consider giving him a home so his life will be saved. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/17Qje5oUgo/

CASSEROLE, Id 253567, @2 Yrs. Old, 78 lbs., Neutered Male
Queens ACC, Large Mixed Breed, Black/White
Owner Surrender Reason: 5/2/26 - Stray
Behavior Assessment Rating: New Hope Only
Recommendations:
No children under 13
Place with a New Hope Partner
Medical Behavior Rating:

AT RISK MEMO:
Casserole is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. In the care center, Casserole displays high arousal behaviors including persistent leash biting, jumping at the kennel door, heavy panting, hard pulling on leash and fixation on dogs during walks. He often requires spray cheese to safely remove him from his kennel due to his leash biting. Casserole is social with familiar handlers, engages with enrichment items and is able to settle in lower stimulation environments but is struggling in the care center. Medically, Casserole is overweight.

INTAKE NOTES โ€“ Date of Intake: 2-May-2026
Upon intake Casserole was very friendly and outgoing. He greeted staff with a loose wiggly body, foot taps, a wagging tail, and licking hands when receiving pets. He was not interested in treats but allowed staff to scan and leash with ease. When removing the officers collar he began to whine and attempt to flee so staff opted not to collar due to possible neck sensitivity.

OWNER SURRENDER NOTES โ€“ BASIC INFORMATION:

For a New Family to Know: Officers reported Casserole to be very friendly and outgoing with both people and other dogs.

BEHAVIOR NOTES

Date of intake: 2-May-2026
Spay/Neuter status: Yes
Means of surrender (length of time in previous home): Stray; history unknown.

SHELTER ASSESSMENT SUMMARIES:
Date of Assessment: 10-May-2026

BEHAVIOR:
Summary: Due to Cassorole's leash biting when being removed from the kennel and during walks, a handling assessment cannot be attempted at this time.

PLAYGROUP NOTES โ€“ DOG TO DOG SUMMARY:
Summary: Due to entering the facility as a stray, there is no prior dog-to-dog history recorded.

05/10/26
Casserole is introduced to a novel female. He approaches the gate and will sniff her with a neutral frame. The female begins to muzzle punch the gate while vocalizing and baring teeth. Casserole shows no response and is easily guided away.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:

5/18/26: Casserole is jumping, barking and heavy panting at his kennel door as handler approaches. He is able to be distracted with spray cheese for a few seconds and would then constantly approach the door and retreat to the back of the kennel back and forth. He is able to be quickly leashed when he goes back to eating the cheese again and he then pulls hard on the way outside for walk. On the walk, he continues to pull ahead while heavy panting. He would hard stare at dogs that would pass by and has no interest in treats. He pulls on the way back to his kennel and enters with no issues.

Summary (7):: 5/17/26: On several occasions, ACS staff has had issues taking Casserole out of the kennel due to excessive leash biting. Even with the use of treats and toys casserole maintains the same demeanor holding the leash and jumping up and down towards the handler. On two occasions a canine representative had to grab the leash from staff members in order to handle the situation and return casserole to the kennel.

5/17/26: ACS report on the board that he is still leash biting coming out of kennel.

5/14/26: An ACS staff member approaches behavior staff asking for more spray cheese due to his continued persistent leash biting when getting removed from kennel.

5/10 (pm): Casserole is on his kuranda bed when a handle approaches. He perks and comes to the front of the kennel, whining with a wiggly body. Casserole barks as he circles his kennel while the handler unlocks the door and sets out his spray cheese on the doorframe. He only takes a few licks before jumping on the kennel door. He is lured down to the ground, and the handler can leash him easily. He does not leash-bite and pulls to the behavior office. In the office, he is neutral-bodied and readily accepts sliced cheese. Casserole does not initiate further interaction with the handler other than taking cheese. He explores the room, ignoring the handler. Once his kennel is ready, he returns without issue.

5/9/26: Casseole is jumping, barking and heavy panting at his kennel door as handler approaches. He is able to be distracted with spray cheese on his door as the handler leashes him. Once leashed, he then pulls on the way outside for walk. On the walk, he continues to pull ahead and would hard stare at dogs that would pass by. He has no interest in treats until no dogs are in sight. He pulls on the way aback to his kennel and enters with no issues.

05/08/26: Casserole is jumping at the front of kennel as handler approaches. Handler sprays cheese along the kennel door and leashes him as he is licking. Casserole pulls hard to the canine behavior office where he readily engages with a snuffle mat, a licky mat, and will sit for treats. He is social with another handler who enters the room and will rub against their legs and lean into petting. After his session, he is returned to kennel safely.

5/7/26: Casserole was jumping at front of kennel as handler approached. At one point he was jumping from his bed to the kennel door. As handler was trying to leash he would jump and grab at leash. Handler tried treats which did not distract him and end up using spray cheese to leash. Casserole pulled hard coming out of kennel and for most of his walk. Handler offered treats during walk but Casserole was uninterested. He was returned to kennel with no issue.

INTAKE BEHAVIOR:
Date of intake: 2-May-2026
Summary: loose wiggly, foot taps, licking hands, began whining and attempting to flee when removing collar.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
Date of initial: 3-May-2026
Summary: high energy, allowed to be leashed, jumping, alligator rolling, solicits attn but need sedation for.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: New Hope Only

Recommendations:
No children (under 13)
Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:

No children (under 13): Due to Casserole's leash-biting and handling sensitivity, we recommend he be placed in an adult-only home at this time.

Place with a New Hope partner: Casserole has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.

Potential challenges:
Handling/touch sensitivity
Leash-biting
Low threshold for arousal

Potential challenges comments:

Handling/touch sensitivity | Leash-biting | Low threshold for arousal: During his medical exam, Casserole allowed being leashed but began jumping up and alligator rolling. He was noted to solicit attention, but due to his behavior, he needed to be sedated. Casserole leash bites when being removed from the kennel and once out on walks. He is difficult to redirect once aroused and over his threshold. Please see the handouts on Handling/touch sensitivity and Arousal.

IN GRAVE DANGER - EUTH COMMAND

*** LOVES OTHER DOGS! *** SWEET, WIGGLY, SUPER SOCIAL PUPPY!
Rosco is a super sweet, highly social puppy who wants his life to begin! Heโ€™s been soft and waggy and has tried his best to be patient, but now he is feeling stressed in his tiny kennel and wants a family of his own. Like all puppies, this baby needs further training to make him his best self. Rosco arrived as a stray, and he has spent a month at the shelter โ€“ hell on earth for one who just wants to run in the grass, feel the sun on his precious face, and explore the world. Please donโ€™t let this boy die. If you are an experienced foster or adopter who can give him a calm, quiet, structured home hurry and MESSAGE OUR PAGE FOR ASSISTANCE.

ROSCO, Id 251864, @1 Yr. Old, 55 lbs., Male
Manhattan ACC, Medium Mixed Breed, White/Brindle
Surrender Reason: Stray, 4/12/26
Behavior Assessment Rating: New Hope Only
Recommendations:
No Children under 13
Place with a New Hope Partner
Medical Behavior Rating: 2. Blue

AT RISK MEMO:
Rosco is at risk for behavioral concerns. Rosco arrived at the Care Center as a stray with no known history. Upon arrival, he was noted to be social with staff, and allowed all handling for his medical exam with a soft body. Rosco has been observed to have a low threshold for arousal. During his handling assessments he has been noted to be over-aroused, head-whipping frequently, jumping on staff, and mouthing hands. Rosco is also noted to resource guard, becoming tense and hovering over items of value in his possession. With staff, Rosco remains social, allowing all contact. Due to the detailed behavior, we recommend an experienced, adult-only home. Medically, Rosco is apparently healthy.

INTAKE NOTES โ€“ Date of Intake: 12-Apr-2026
Upon intake Rosco was friendly and would jump up on Staff for attention. In the lobby he barked loudly seeking attention while waiting. He was easily leashed and pulled but allowed muzzle for vaccines and entered kennel without issue.

PLAYGROUP NOTES - DOG TO DOG SUMMARY Summary:: 5/8/26: Rosco greets another dog at the gate with a loose and wiggly body while vocalizing. He then seeks handler attention by sitting at their feet or jumping up at them.

ENRICHMENT NOTES

05/14/26: Rosco is at the front of his kennel as handler approaches, he barks and jumps at the kennel door. Handler distracts Rosco with a treat which he takes very intensely. He is leashed and pulls hard out of kennel jumping up toward the leash so handler quickly shortens the leash and walks with Rosco down to the street for his walk. Outside he pulls moderately and attempts to pull forward to sniff or to approach people. He relieves himself outside and due to handler running out of poop bags another handler is called to bring more bags. When the second handler approaches, Rosco becomes tense and pulls very hard toward the handler so the bags are tossed to handler who picks up after Rosco and finishes the walk. He is returned to kennel and interaction is ended.

5/8/26 (PG): Rosco was at front of kennel jumping on kennel door as handler approached. He was easily leashed and pulled from kennel. He was taken to the back yard for playgroup. He was taken to the introduction spot and started vocalizing and scratching when he saw the other dog. It was determined that they were not a match and he was returned to kennel with no issue.

5/6/26: Rosco is at the front of his kennel with a soft body and jumps on the kennel bars to bark at the handler; the handler lures Rosco with a treat while leahsing him and brings him out of his kennel. While exiting the room, Rosco turns his head with a open mouth seemingly towards the leash, but turns back around and looks forward. In the elevator, he is jumping on the handler a few times. After entering the hallway, Rosco picks up a toy and carries it out the building; he plays with it until he drops on the street. Rosco walks ahead with mild leash tension; he doesn't react to dogs or passersby. Rosco is then brought inside for his assessment (see notes); afterwards, the handler returns Rosco to his kennel with ease.

5/6/26: It is noted on the whiteboard that Rosco leash bites when he is being leashed. Proper signage has been given.

4/14/26:(Assessment) Rosco is at the front of the kennel with a soft body and wagging tail. Handler leashes him as he is trying to push his way out of the kennel. Rosco pulls hard out of the room and is taken to the street. He walks with a loose leash and relieves himself. When observing dogs he stares at them tense. Rosco is brought back inside the shelter and to the assessment office. He pulls towards the passing pop up crates with a tense body. Rosco greets the assessor with a soft body and wagging tail. He is easily collared. After his assessment, Rosco pulls to the passing pop ups. He pulls towards the passing kennels as he enters the room and is returned to kennel without further issue.

INTAKE BEHAVIOR:
Date of intake:: 4/12/2026
Summary:: Social, jumping up on handler

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
Date of initial:: 4/13/2026
Summary:: Body relaxed; easily examined

ENERGY LEVEL:
We have no history on Rosco FKA Cupcake so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Recommendations::
No children (under 13),
Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments::

No children (under 13): Due to the low threshold for arousal we recommend an adult only home.

We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.

Potential challenges:
Resource guarding,
On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration,
Low threshold for arousal

Potential challenges comments::

Resource Guarding: Rosco FKA Cupcake was observed to become tense and hover over a toy in her possession. Nothing should ever be taken directly out of Rosco's mouth, and any time something is removed they should be rewarded with a high value treat or toy. Please see handout on Resource Guarding.

On Leash Reactivity: Rosco FKA Cupcake was observed to persistently bark at a handler before lunging at them when they entered the room. Rosco will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than other people. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On Leash Reactivity and Barrier Frustration.

Arousal: Rosco FKA Cupcake was observed to quickly become over aroused when the handler initiated contact. Noted to headwhip with an open mouth. Positive reinforcement training should be used to teach Rosco to remain calm during arousing situations. If they begin to escalate, people should pause the interaction, and create distance from the trigger. Pattern games such as 1-2-3 treat and the cue โ€œmatโ€ can be used to reinforce calm behaviors. Please see handout on Arousal.

5/17/2026: thrashing doing intakeโ€ฆlight restraint neededโ€ฆif

5/19/2026: Timid in kennel and tried to avoid the leash when i first approach. Once leashed he walks out with low head, body close to the ground and tucked tail. With baby talk he scoots close to me and tries to tuck his head under my arms. He allows me to pet him but due to his timid behavior leash walk him. He just looks arounds and doesnt pottyโ€ฆ he stays close to my legs. No issues placing him back into kennel because he walks in on his own and allows me to remove leash.

5/20/2026: Jerome was brought over in the am as a move adopt. Dog is very large and was placed into a small kennel so I placed him into a larger kennel. When I went to leash him he was very timid and coward away from me slamming into divider avoiding contact with me. I had to go slow and leash him and even then he still was avoiding me. Within a couple of minutes of placing into a new bigger kennel he painted in kennel and was going in circles and hitting the divider causing Gloria on opposite to stress out and not to lay on her bedding. I had to take him out and soak his kennel meanwhile having him in an empty kennel in the process. He also painted that kennel. Placing dog on beh.

๐Ÿ’œ Volunteer Notes:

Alan was a cute, lazy bum! I think he was protesting his cone, lol. He was super sweet and LOVED getting belly rubs. He just laid in the grass and sun bathed. He is calm and quiet in his kennel and wags his tail around other dogs. Heโ€™s a funny little guy, and I bet his spirits would elevate in a loving home.

Shelter staff notes: "Alan is relaxed laying on kurunda bed as I approach kennel. He gets up to greet me and wags his tail as I leash him up. Walks out on a loose leash to the outside runs. He lounges around while he isoutside. I noticed he was laying up on the bench against the fence. Seemed very relaxed. Walked him back to kennel and he lays down and plops over offering up his belly. I offer him belly rubs and he enjoys it."

4/28/2026: Confiscate - Police

Dog left at the police station.

๐Ÿ“ Shelter Notes:

5/1/2026: lying down in kennel in lions pose. i opened kennel and he got up and allowed me to leash. presented a neutral body, slow wagging tail. walked on a semi loose leash to and from runs.

5/2/2026: I tossed treats to leash him up and he came with me slowly with wagging tail and open mouth. Doozer potty in the outside runs so his kennel is very clean.

5/4/2026: Doozer presented a tense body, soft face and squinty eyes. Struggled to leash, as dog began avoiding me. Once leashed, dog walked with a loose leash back inside. Darted into kennel before I could remove leash. Very weary. Avoided me later when I attempted to move him.

5/6/2026: Quiet in kennel, walks on a loose leash, swaying tail and relaxed body.

5/7/2026: Walks on a loose leash, quiet on kennel, relaxed body.

5/14/2026: Dozer greets me at the kennel door with a still low tail. He lets me leash him and walks loosely to and from the potty yard. Inside his kennel he can be seen relaxing on his bed. He knows how to lift up the guillotine.

5/15/2026: Doozer lifted up divider overnight and pottied in the outside portion of his kennel. Wiggly and initially jumpy when trying to leash and take out of kennel. Tight leash out to runs and back.

5/16/2026: Doozer was lying in the outside kennel. When I approached, he stood up and presented a loose body, wagging tail, and soft, open mouth. Doozer was a bit forward on leash, I attempted to distract him with treats, but he was not very interested in them. Doozer is very calm and quiet in his kennel.

5/17/2026: Doozer was sitting in the outside portion of his kennel, wagging tail and wiggly going out on tight leash. Maintained tight leash out to runs. Did not potty in his kennel overnight, waited until he was out on the grass to relieve himself. Since heโ€™s able to open the divider, I cleaned both sides of his kennel before returning to get him, meaning he spent some extra time outside. When I returned he was finishing up pottying and came over to the gate as I approached. Initially overaroused/jumping up and off of me with his front paws but then settled down to walk with tight leash zig-zagging side to side back into his kennel. Quiet and calm in kennel.

5/17/2026 1:35 PM update - after opening, noticed that Doozer was alarm barking with tail tucked, ears back and fully dilated pupils with worried brow when citizens were walking through the row and in front of his kennel. Would stretch to sniff when some tried to squat down and baby talk him, but then go back to alarm barking. Covered with blanket and placed "Iโ€™m shy" sign. Neutral to people approaching him from the outside.

5/18/2026: Doozer greeted me at the front of his kennel with a neutral body and wagging tail. He leashed well and walked on a semi-loose leash to the run. While in the runs he was occasionally vocal when Iโ€™d bring another dog out. Walking back in he walked on a loose leash with a relaxed body. Once being back inside he has been laying outside or inside playing with his enrichment. Hasnโ€™t been vocal since his morning.

5/20/2026: Quiet in kennel, laying on bed resting throughout the day

5/21/2026: Relaxed body, wagging tail, standing in front of kennel waits to be leashed before walking out of kennel, walks on a loose leash. wiggly body and fast wagging tail as i initiate play
