6/10/26 Stray | Staffordshire Mix | Female (Spayed) | 8 Years Old | 55.0 lbs | HW High Positive

πŸ’œ Volunteer Notes:

I only met Tara briefly iefly through the kennel door but she was a little ham. Her tongue sticking out the whole time was the icing on the cake with her small little underbite. She had an adoption hold and they never showed up..I don't know why not but they missed out.

πŸ“ Shelter Notes:

6/10/26: Stray dog intake.

6/11/26: Tara greeted staff at the kennel door with a low tail but allowed herself to be leashed. Once outside, her tail began wagging. She walked on a semi-tight leash to and from the potty yard and was later observed resting comfortably on her blanket in her kennel.

6/15/26: Tara was moved to the adoption section in the morning. She greeted staff with a loose, relaxed body, leashed easily, walked to her new kennel on a loose leash, and remained quiet and relaxed throughout morning cleaning.

6/26/26: Tara was lying on her bed with a soft face, neutral body, and gently tapping tail. She slowly got up to greet staff, calmly followed them out of the kennel, and was easy to leash.

7/2/26: Tara greeted staff with a relaxed body and wagging tail. She was easy to leash, walked well on a loose leash, and was moved to the adoption section, where she remained quiet.

She enjoys leisurely walks, settles well in her kennel, and has repeatedly shown a sweet, cooperative temperament despite being treated for a respiratory infection. Tara deserves the chance to spend her golden years in a loving home where she can recover, decompress, and finally feel safe.

First, for some reason, u/Masterpiece9550 is having trouble with the visibility of her posts. For instance, they're not coming up reliably in searches. So I am adding links to her two new dogs for 7/7:

Caramel (2Y neutered male Staffie mix and a BARC foster return) - https://redd.it/1upgbsr/

Eli (5M male Staffie mix) - https://redd.it/1upfqwt/

All the below dogs are extended from BARC's 7/6 list.

Each needs a hold by 1pm CT, Tuesday, 7/7, to survive.

Please do not count on BARC extending them again.

If you are interested in adopting (US/Canada) or fostering (Houston, TX, only) any of these dogs, please contact one or more of the following networkers: u/BanditY77, u/lingeringneutrophil, u/holly_holly_holly, u/fugueink, or u/No_Masterpiece9550.

Be aware that because of the New World screwworm outbreak there are restrictions on nonhuman travel, varying by destination.

Appletini and her two pups (3Y female Rottweiler mix) - https://redd.it/1umelgt/

Kiko (2Y neutered male AmStaff mix) - https://redd.it/1uodli7/ R.E.A.L. Rottweiler Rescue will tag Kiko if they can find a foster in the Houston, TX, area. If you can help, their foster application is below. https://realrottweilerrescue.com/foster

Tanner Wilson (aka Dash) (2Y male Labrador mix): He remains at BARC and may be euthanized any time before 1pm CT, Tuesday, 7/7. https://redd.it/1uo6w8k/

If there are others added, I will update this post.

Please understand that we must treat the 1pm deadline as nonnegotiable. BARC and BARC alone decides if a dog gets more time, and they usually say no.

Don't forget the many other wonderful dogs on the long-stay list (updated hourly): https://www.houstontx.gov/barc/barcdata/BARC_LOSV2.1.pdf

If they're not on the next list, they soon will be.

She is exhausted from giving birth, breastfeeding, and being under constant stress and fear. Imagine trying to be a mom in these conditions?
These are the faces and the lives that are affected by NOT spaying and neutering your dogs. Innocent lives are taken every day due to irresponsible humans. Were these puppies born just to be euthanized?
We need to get them out of there ASAP before they all get sick. If you can foster this family please reach out right away.
If there are any rescues with the ability to help please reach out. Together we can give them a bright future.

6/30/26: During placement on the euthanasia list, Alex was observed pancaked against the back kennel wall with a tense body, pinned ears, and whale eyes. Staff were able to place a leash over his head and attempted to comfort him with baby talk and treats, but he remained shut down. He was lightly muzzled and carried to the runs. Outside, he displayed a somewhat more relaxed posture and sniffed neighboring dogs, but largely kept to himself. Staff had to carry him back to his kennel, where he again pancaked himself against the back wall.

7/2/26: Alex tucked his head into the corner of his kennel and pulled his legs underneath himself when staff opened the kennel door. Staff slowly knelt down and offered treats, but he showed no interest. When a leash was placed on him, his body became even more tense. He was lightly muzzled and carried to a new kennel.
