Anyone have suggestions for good bars/clubs in Austin?

We're a couple visiting Austin for the 4th of July weekend. Looking for a location with a good atmosphere, drinks and possibly a live DJ and dance floor. Doesn't have to be upscale but we want to avoid the seedy spots if possible. We just want to have a good time vibing over drinks and music. We like anything except Metal and Country, btw.

Keep in mind, we don't know much about Austin so names and streets will be helpful.

Thank you!

Looking for fellow cigar & whiskey enthusiasts in Central Texas

Hey everyone!

I recently started a group called The Gentleman’s Pour and I’m looking to connect with others who enjoy premium cigars, good whiskey, and even better conversation.
The goal is to get together about once a month to relax, enjoy a cigar, share a pour, and build a community of like-minded people. I’m still figuring out the best long-term location for our meetups, but our last gathering was at Creekside Cigar Lounge in Belton, and it turned out to be a great spot.

Because I want to support the small businesses that welcome our group, I ask that if we meet at a cigar lounge, everyone purchase a couple of cigars from the shop. It’s a simple way to show appreciation to the owners and helps make sure they’ll continue welcoming us in the future.
Bring your favorite bottle if you’d like (completely optional), grab a cigar, and enjoy a laid-back evening with good people. Whether you’re new to cigars and whiskey or you’ve been enjoying them for years, you’re welcome here.
If you’re interested or have suggestions for future meetup locations, leave a comment or send me a message. I’d love to have you join us! 🥃💨

Fun LGS in Austin, TX for someone visiting to play at?

I'm going to be visiting Austin, TX here soon and was wondering where a fun store would be to play some casual commander? Mostly between Bracket 3 and 4. Not actively seeking cEDH, but I do have a deck to play if the pod chooses to.

Thank you in advance.

Followup to Yesterday's Thread about Dog Dying of Starvation

This is regarding yesterday's post about the dog being abused in east austin:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Austin/comments/1uhfq85/dog_needs_help_please/

So, small disclaimer, the reason I know about this dog is completely separate from how OP discovered it yesterday. The city and local non-profits (that i know of) do not operate with the speed and aggressiveness required to save this animal's life (or perhaps the lives of other dogs living on this property).

Here's what I know:
-i'm told that the dog is expressing a behavior known as 'knuckling', indicating that it is most likely experiencing organ failure and in the final hours/days of life
-it was last observed at a specific home near East 12th street and the family claimed ownership of the dog
-austin animal control has visited the residence but took no action; it isn't clear if they were responding for complaints about this dog or a different dog that the family owns

So...the Austin community (namely this reddit sub) really showed up for Boone a few months back, but I look at yesterday's thread and it's like a dead stick with no one asking for updates. I get that seeing a video of someone actively hitting a dog can induce more emotions than just still photographs of an abused dog, but in my mind the willful neglect and starvation of this animal is just such a deeper level of evil.

Is there anyone else who can help in this situation; possibly turn it into another Boone success story? Above all things I want to reiterate that OP from yesterday is not who is making this post; this is a known situation on this street but every passing hour is going to count now.

A prospective transplant asked Austin residents: “Why do you love living here, and why do you hate it?” The answers were brutally honest.

Plumbing/Electrician

Hi we recently moved to the Elgin area and I am trying to switch out my gas stove for an electrical one. I have done a bit of research and have come to learn that my house will need some work done due to it being a 120V.

If yall know of a good TRUSTED plumber and electrician please let me know.

TIA

Gym recommendations near Tech Ridge, Austin for a beginner?

Hey Austin,

I stay near the Tech Ridge area and I’m looking to start going to the gym. I’m a complete beginner, so I’m looking for a place that’s beginner-friendly, not too intimidating, and ideally has decent equipment, clean facilities, and maybe trainers or classes to help me get started.

Any recommendations near Tech Ridge / North Austin? Also, if there are gyms I should avoid, please let me know.

Thanks in advance!

need a gift idea for my mom that isn't another candle, any suggestions?

Her birthday is coming up and I'm tired of doing the same flowers + candle combo every year. She's been complaining about her shoulders being tight from gardening all the time, so I started thinking maybe a massage gift card would be a better move this time.

Never actually bought one of these before so not sure what to look for. Found Oak Haven Massage has gift cards on their site and a few locations around Austin, but I don't know if that's a good one or if there's somewhere better people would recommend.

Anyone done this before? Did your person actually use it or did it just sit around? Also curious if it's better to get a specific service or just a dollar amount so they can pick.
