Dog dementia - when is it time?
Hi all - my 11 year old rescue has dementia and has had it since he has been 8 ( so quite young).
He is really mixed. Sometimes he seems ok and others he is getting stuck behind doors, in the shower, shaking and looking really panicked / try’s to dig anything like the sofa or bed.
He has had the odd pee in the house with it - but nothing major.
Today we were driving home - he was having a moment so I brought him in with me. He peed on me while he was lying down and seemed totally unaware.
When is the right time? He is happy when he is ok and scared when he isn’t 🙁
Guess who turned 15 today!!
He’s the the most ancient, smelly, hates being touched but will touch you, and unfriendly guy on the planet, but I couldn’t ask for a better dog!
He loves
How to open discover savings account?
Hello, I currently have 4 savings accounts and a checking account. I just started a business and wanted to open an account to put my estimated quarterly taxes. When I go to open an account, it keeps bringing me to capital one’s website. Every time I try to Google it, only capital One comes up. Do I have to call or can I no longer open discover accounts at all?
Buster 😭♥️
I know I post Buster a lot, but he is my baby.
Here on the left is when I adopted him at 10, right was the other day and now 19.5 years old. I feel like I need to cry now 😭
Beau (9 years old) 🖤🐶
Beau got a new bow tie & he thought you all might like it 🥹🖤
Film pics from our last week with Harvey Milk (14)
Just got the developed film back from our last hike with the lil guy before he went downhill the weekend afterwards. I miss him so much but feeling thankful for all the times we had together.
For the film folks: I took these on a half frame 1960s Olympus Pen F with the 40mm f1.4, Kodak Gold 200
Pure love
I was going through some serious medical issues at this time and i'm so glad i have this picture, she never left my side, it's been 5 years since i'm glad i found it🥹
How do you know it’s time
Our current 16 year old good boy has the following issues:
- chronic kidney disease (stage 2/3)
- High blood pressure
- Heart murmur (no surgery)
- Only A few teeth left (can’t do dental surgery per above)
- Canine dementia/sundowning (somewhat managed with gabapentin/melatonin)
- corneal calcification started about a month ago, is really bothering him. We took him to two different eye specialists, both noted that even if we do debridement it will come back, so we have chosen to treat with calming / antibiotic eye drops for now and monitor. The second vet said this is chronic and will eventually become a quality of life issue and we will need to have a different conversation then.
Our dog does not have the same appetite he used to and cannot take the long walks he used to, which were his favorite thing. He whines and cries a lot now even with the gabapentin and eye drops and seems generally uncomfortable. The vet visits have started to really stress him out (didn’t used to), now needs to be put on trazodone in addition to the gabapentin and has started to wet himself at the vet. Unfortunately our vet retired and his practice was taken over by a private equity group, we have seen 3 different vets at that practice over the past year, so it’s not so simple as just talk to the vet.
My spouse likes to say as long as the dog is still eating he’s fine - But typing this all out I’m not so sure. It was actually the eye vet who started listing all his conditions and mentioning quality of life that made me think about this more.
More like thank you than goodbye 🥹
Our sweet Watson, almost 16, went to join his rescue brother Sherlock on the 23rd and today 30mins after I could finally pull together a post together, I got a message that his memorial was ready to be picked up. The boys are back together, and as hard as it is, there is relief knowing he’s not suffering anymore. First time in the 25 years my husband and I have been together that the house hasn’t had fur babies and it feels weird!
Should I drug the Pug?
This is Oscar. He loves the idea of car rides but not the practice. He gets all bent out of shape after about 10 minutes. Shaking, panting, won’t settle etc. We have a two hour journey tomorrow and I’m feeling like he’s getting too old to suffer it. He tolerates gabapentin well, but I have never used it for car rides. Thoughts / opinions? Advice? He will be very happy when we get there and shrugs it off quickly.
PUPDATE: he’s only a little high on one pill, but at least he’s laying down. That’s progress. Still panting but no shaking. Thanks Reddit fam.
PUPDATE 2: he passed out after an hour. 👏🏻
Buster Update! Good News ❤️ 19.5 years old
Buster is apparently extremely healthy for his age. The vet was surprised how great his test look especially the one for his kidneys 🤦🏻♀️ Poor guy just has a UTI.
Soooooo, you guys get to see Buster more lol
RIP Brownie 🐻🤎
Passed a while ago. He was a sweet fella.
Apart from when he abliterated that one chicken. It probably insulted his mother or something.
My Front-Seat Dog
Tagger, my 13 year old Frenchie. My shadow and best friend. Here he is chillin' in the car with me charging phones and charging blocks. We had a really bad storm and lost electricity for 6 hours. He just wants to make sure I'm okay. Love this boy with all of my heart. I can't imagine life without him.
Buster News
We are taking him to the vet on Wednesday.
Lately, I’ve been saying he is healthy but something started to concern me last week. I’m a little nervous what the vet is going to tell me. Wish us luck ♥️
