Precious Toffee is living his best life over at our dear friend Kayla's house, where he's getting lots of love, TLC and his very own private nurse! ❤️

Kayla graciously offered to care for this sweetheart for a couple of weeks while he gets a little steadier on his feet and we work on finding a wonderful foster or rescue to take him under their wing.

And considering this little guy came to us with broken front and back legs and serious pelvic injuries, seeing him enjoying some fresh air and sunshine this weekend just melts our hearts! ☀️🐶

Thanks to the incredible Dr. Julia and the VSGNO team for putting our broken boy back together, and to sweet Kayla for making sure his recovery comes with plenty of love and pampering!

We think Toffee has figured out that being spoiled is pretty sweet! 🥰

📣 Charlie is clocking out after another very busy day of doggie daycare… with a little wound care mixed in. 😂🐾

Our sweet boy spent the day with Dr. Ashlyn and the remarkable team at The Veterinary Clinic at Copper Crowne, and tonight he’s heading “home” with his foster mom and our dear friend Em. ❤️

Em has generously offered to take Charlie home each night so he can experience all the things he’s never really had a chance to learn:

🐾 Humans can be kind.
🐾 Leashes aren’t scary.
🐾 Other dogs can be friends.
🐾 Cats are… interesting.
🐾 And apparently, every now and then, there may even be a chicken involved. 😂

What makes this so incredible is where Charlie was just five days ago.

In the wee hours of the morning, Kelly and Terri- with help from Jeremy - were trying to coax and trap a terrified young dog who had been running from everyone in Lake Charles and shared all over social media.

Around his neck was a collar that had become deeply embedded, infected and horribly painful.

Charlie was so frightened of people that once they finally got him safe, he had to be carried nearly everywhere.

And now? Em isn’t having to carry him nearly as much anymore.

He’s walking. He’s playing (he loves the toys Kelly sent). He’s exploring. And most importantly, he is learning to trust by leaps and bounds. 🥹❤️

Of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t give a little credit to the giant stash of Nudges our Dogfather John sent him. Apparently Charlie has decided humans holding chicken treats may not be so bad after all. 😂

Dr. Ashlyn estimates Charlie is only 8 months to a year old.

Still just a baby.

Judging by the severity of the injury, it appears that collar may have been placed on him when he was much smaller and simply continued cutting deeper and deeper into his neck as he grew.

And here’s the BEST part:

❤️ Charlie is fully vetted.
❤️ He is heartworm negative.
❤️ His neck is healing beautifully.
❤️ And he is ready to find a home of his own.

He still needs a little wound care, but nothing that couldn’t easily be managed by someone willing to learn.

What Charlie needs most now is someone patient enough to keep showing him what Em and everyone caring for him has already started teaching him:

📣 It was a busy day in Opelousas today! We had appointments for four precious angels, and here are two of them from the Port Barre Law for Paws and Friends getting lots of love and attention from Dr. Ashlyn and the wonderful team at The Veterinary Clinic at Copper Crowne. ❤️

Sweet Smokey has already been through so much. He was found in absolutely deplorable condition, covered in bite wounds around his head and neck, with his tail shredded all the way to the bone.

Thanks to Dr. Dusty and the talented Lafayette Veterinary Care Center team, his infection was brought under control, his damaged tail was amputated, and he was neutered. Today, he was back with Dr. Ashlyn to finish up his vaccines and keep moving forward toward a much brighter future. 🐾

Then there’s Bandit, who was confiscated by the Port Barre Police Department along with two other dogs, all found in heartbreaking condition. Bandit’s skin and eyes were so severely infected that it was difficult to even look at him when he first came in.

Dr. Ashlyn has been doing everything possible to save his eye, and while he still has a way to go, we are thankful to see even a little improvement. ❤️

A huge thank you to LaDonna for making sure Bandit gets to every appointment, and to Smokey’s wonderful foster for doing the same for him.

Rescue takes a village — from law enforcement stepping in, to fosters and volunteers handling appointments, to skilled veterinary teams giving these animals the care they desperately need.

And thanks to the best supporters, we can keep saying YES when these calls come in. ❤️

📣 LESS THAN 36 HOURS AGO, CHARLIE WAS STILL RUNNING FOR HIS LIFE. 🥲

Tonight, this sweet baby is settling in for his second night of peaceful rest with our wonderful friends at The Veterinary Clinic at Copper Crowne - and the difference in less than two days is pretty incredible. 🥹🐾

Yesterday was all about treatment.

Today was about play, patience and learning that humans might actually be okay after all. see video in comments 👀

Our dear friend Em says they are still having to carry Charlie everywhere because he is so unsure of people — but put another pup in front of him and suddenly he knows exactly what to do. ❤️ He wants to play with the clinic dogs and learning from them that maybe this place isn’t so scary.

And then there are the Nudges John sent. 😂

Apparently, those have become Charlie’s weakness, because this once-terrified stray is now eating treats right out of their hands.

That may sound like a small thing.

For Charlie, it is HUGE. ❤️

Because less than 36 hours ago, he was the scared young dog whose face had flooded social media for days — roaming the Lake Charles area searching for food, avoiding every attempt to catch him and somehow surviving with a collar that had grown deeply embedded into his neck.

Rescuers and all-around great gals Kelly and Terri decided they would make the drive all the way from Crowley to Lake Charles, determined to trap him to get him help!

With help from Jeremy, who had been keeping watch for Charlie and helping however he could, they finally caught him and got him off the streets.

The next morning, Kelly drove him straight over to Dr. Ashlyn and our “A Team” at Copper Crowne, where they discovered just how much this little guy had been enduring.

The collar was embedded so deeply that Charlie had to be sedated to remove it. The team debrided dead and necrotic tissue, thoroughly cleaned the wounds and immediately began treating the infection.

And they accomplished A LOT in one day.

Charlie was treated for hookworms and infection, vaccinated, neutered - although we haven’t exactly broken that news to him yet 😂 - bathed to get rid of the unbelievable number of fleas covering him, and somehow this street baby even tested HEARTWORM NEGATIVE! 🙌

Dr. Ashlyn estimates Charlie is only 8 months to a year old.

And from the severity of his neck injury, it appears that collar may have been put on when he was much smaller and simply continued cutting deeper as he grew.

Despite everything, Charlie has shown zero aggression.

He is frightened. He is uncertain. He doesn’t quite understand why all these people suddenly want to touch him, feed him, carry him and tell him what a good boy he is.

But underneath all that fear is one very sweet young dog.

And today, we got to see the first little cracks in that wall. ❤️

Following the other dogs.

Playing.

Taking treats from a human hand.

Beginning, ever so slowly, to trust.

Over the coming days, the Copper Crowne team will continue his bandage changes, monitor his wounds and spend lots of time helping him learn what kindness feels like.

Scott’s Wish will continue covering his medical care, boarding as needed, vaccines and vetting while everyone works together to find the future this boy deserves.

This is what rescue looks like.

It’s Kelly and Terri deciding they were going to Lake Charles and they weren’t coming home without him.

It’s Jeremy, an employee at Comfort Suites, keeping watch, helping with the search and even using his employee discount so the girls had somewhere to rest while they kept looking.

It’s Dr. Ashlyn, Em and the Copper Crowne team saying, “Bring him.”

And it’s all of you making it possible for Scott’s Wish to say, “Yes. We’ll take care of the medical.”

Less than 36 hours ago, Charlie was wandering the streets wondering where his next meal would come from and running because he didn’t know who to trust.

Tonight? He has a soft bed. A full belly. Medicine for his wounds. Doggie friends showing him the ropes. A pocketful of John’s Nudges waiting for tomorrow. 😂

And an entire village teaching him that he doesn’t have to run anymore. ❤️

📣 Matlock made it safe and sound to Iowa! 💗🐾

We’re so grateful to Lindsey and South Central Bloodhound Rescue for taking this precious boy under their wing and helping him finish his journey.

He’s now settling in with one of their wonderful foster families, where Tracy and Dixie will keep a close eye on him, spoil him rotten, and get him in for a vet visit to make sure everything stays on track.

After everything this boy has been through, it feels so good knowing he’s exactly where he needs to be.

We’ll keep you posted on sweet Matlock, who has completely stolen all of our hearts. ❤️

📣And if one Dolly story wasn’t enough, here comes another one. ❤️🐾

Meet Bitsy, formerly Sally Sue, and now officially Dolly.

This precious girl came from a cruelty confiscation and needed a whole lot of help. We partnered with the remarkable Sandy and supporters of the Oakdale Dog Shelter to give her a new leash on life, funding major orthopedic surgery with Dr. John and the team at Capital Area Veterinary Specialists, including bilateral patella repairs and a CCL repair.

Then something pretty wonderful happened.

Her overnight nurse, Sam, fell completely in love with her while caring for her at the hospital. Sam has an elderly dog at home and absolutely was NOT planning to adopt another dog anytime soon.

And then Dolly happened. 😂❤️

The connection was undeniable, and before we knew it, this sweet girl was leaving the hospital with her brand-new mom, who just happens to know exactly what her recovery and rehab will require.

We are always thrilled when one of the incredible veterinary professionals caring for our animals decides they simply can’t let them go. There’s something extra special about knowing Dolly is heading home with the person who helped nurse her through some of her toughest days.

From cruelty confiscation, to major surgery, to a brand-new family.

Now that’s a happy ending.

We cannot WAIT to see Dolly rocking her pink cowboy hat. 🤠💗

This precious Sheltie mix was picked up by animal control and brought straight to our friends at Copper Crowne with a badly shattered back leg.

As if that wasn’t enough, this young boy was also loaded with hookworms and fleas which can cause anemia. Thankfully, Dr. Ashlyn and her incredible team got right to work—treating everything he had going on and taking him to surgery for that injured leg so Mufasa could have the fresh start he deserves.

And because saving these babies always takes a village, our dear friend Ron with Street Dawgs has stepped up to make sure when the time comes, Mufasa will be ready to find his forever family. ❤️

There is such a significant cost involved in saving dogs like Mufasa—surgery, bloodwork, testing, medications, vaccines, neuter, microchip and everything in between. We’re incredibly grateful for the veterinarians, rescues, fosters and supporters who continue to partner with us to save lives.

📣 We’re pretty sure precious Matlock enjoyed his VERY FIRST pup cup today! 🥹🐾 Thanks to our dear friend Em, who sprung him from the hospital (well, he was actually discharged but Em made it sound more adventurous) 😉 this sweet boy got to experience something every dog deserves… a little spoiling. ❤️

It’s hard to believe this is the same dog who was found wandering with a log chained around his neck, his body covered in infected bite wounds after what appeared to be repeated attacks. His front leg was so badly injured that we were terrified he might lose it.

But look at him now. 😍

Thanks to the incredible care of the entire team at LVCC, Matlock’s wounds are looking amazing, he’s using that leg, and he’s almost ready for the next chapter. Soon he’ll be heading to foster with South Central Bloodhound Rescue, where his eyes can be addressed once he’s had a little more time to heal.

Until transport day, he’ll be keeping Em and the wonderful team at The Veterinary Clinic at Copper Crowne company. And of course, precious Max has already made sure his new roommate has plenty of toys, treats and comfy blankies waiting in his kennel. 😂❤️

We are just so grateful this boy got his chance. He kept his leg, he’s healing beautifully, and now he’s finally getting to learn what it feels like to be safe, loved and spoiled.

Keep going, Matlock. The good stuff is just getting started. 🐾❤️

📣Sweet Bitsy is resting comfortably this morning at Capital Area Veterinary Specialists and preparing for a big afternoon ahead. Thanks, Demian for sending these precious pics!❤️

Later today, our dear friend Dr. John Mauterer will perform surgery on both of her knees, and we would be so grateful if you would keep this precious girl in your thoughts and prayers.

Bitsy has already been through more than any dog should. Formerly known as Sally Sue, she came from a cruelty case along with six other dogs who had been neglected and denied even basic care. Once she was safe with the shelter, she was spayed, vaccinated, treated for fleas, and finally given the medical attention she had always deserved. 💗

That’s when they learned her bowed back legs were much more than cosmetic. Dr. John diagnosed her with bilateral luxating patellas, with her left knee also complicated by a torn ACL. In other words, both knees need repair, and her left leg was in especially bad shape. Even though Bitsy never let it show, we now know this angel has likely been living with pain for a very long time.

Today is a big step toward changing that.

We are so grateful to the dedicated and determined team of Sandy and the supporters of the Oakdale Dog Shelter of Louisiana who truly worked like dogs to help make this possible. They partnered with us and sponsored half of this major surgery, helping give Bitsy the chance at the pain-free life she deserves.

We can’t change her past, but together, we can absolutely change her future.

📣It’s Sunday morning, and Maverick needs us. 💔Attacked by other dogs over and over, this poor soul was wandering along the road with an entire log chained and tied around his neck last night.

A kind woman had seen him around before, but this time was different. After she freed him from the log, Maverick walked into her house and collapsed. She knew he was in serious trouble. 🥲

And she was right.

Bite wounds covered his body. He’s heartworm positive, Ehrlichia positive (tickborne diseases). He has an ulcer on one eye and will need entropion surgery. His eyes are badly recessed from dehydration, which may have been a blessing during the attack. And his ears are horrifically infected.

Our friend Lindsay with South Central Bloodhound Rescue was on the phone with the emergency clinic until 3 a.m. Maverick had to be sedated so they could clip and clean his wounds and even begin to examine those painful ears.

Lindsay wasn’t about to say no to him, but we were her first call after hanging up.

The reality is most rescues don’t have thousands of dollars sitting in an account waiting for the next emergency. And Maverick will need to remain hospitalized for at least a few more days.

We’re not trying to raise his entire bill. We’re simply trying to help enough that when the next Maverick comes along, we can still say YES.

📣Precious Max was back at The Veterinary Clinic at Copper Crowne today to see Dr. Ashlyn, Em and the compassionate team who had taken such wonderful care of him when found. ❤️‍🩹

Unfortunately, his caring foster family noticed he just hasn’t been interested in drinking very much, and today’s weigh-in showed he had lost weight. Some of that is likely dehydration, but either way, it’s not something we can afford at this stage. 🥲

So, Max will be hospitalized while the team supports him with IV fluids and carefully increases his caloric intake. The good news? He drank plenty of water on his own this evening, and we were very happy to hear that. 🙏

It’s hard to believe it’s only been a week since this sweet boy was found by caring neighbors, the Guidrys and Roys, who refused to look the other way and started reaching out trying to find help for him.

Thanks to the best supporters, we were able to immediately say YES when that call came.

Now we just need Max to turn that corner. 🙏

He’s also been fortunate enough to catch the eye of Midwest Vizsla Rescue, which could mean a wonderful future is waiting for him. But first things first. We need to get this angel stronger and headed in the right direction.

📣Happy Friday from Hope! She's been stealing all the attention over with Dr. Ashlyn and the team at The Veterinary Clinic at Copper Crowne, we're so hopeful things are heading in the right direction after her emergency c-section earlier this week where sadly all her puppies were deceased.

Exhausted and anemic, we've kept her at the hospital for close observation, and fingers crossed she'll head out on Monday! 🙏

She originally came into the City of Opelousas Shelter pregnant, with no indication that she was having any problems. Street Dawgs recently took her under their rescue arm.

She is an absolute sweetheart. If anyone out there has room in their heart and home for a gentle girl who has already been through so much, please message us or Street Dawgs .

But for now, Hope is safe, resting and surrounded by people who love her. We’ll keep you posted on this angel. ❤️🐾

💙Meet Max, this angel is in great hands now thanks to a community rallying around him! That's dear Em over at The Veterinary Clinic at Copper Crowne getting him all checked in this morning!

He was lucky enough to wander up to some houses in Sunset, LA in search of food where compassionate neighbors- The Guidry's and The Roy's- refused to turn a blind eye. They posted and shared last night and word got to us for help.

We have had foster/rescue offers but since we've found a remarkable foster in Trace Veillon who dropped everything this morning to go pick him and get him to the vet, we're going to wait and get more info on the condition of the angel.

We know he's emaciated. He only weighs 38 pounds.

But he is the sweetest boy, and we will do our very best for him.

We have 4 dogs hospitalized today, we seldom do $5 Fridays, but if you're in a position to help, it simple allows us to keep saying yes to angels like Max in need!

We're so grateful Trace and her husband stepped up, they're very familiar with refeeding syndrome.

A special thanks to our supporter Kerolyn in Leesville, who offered to help in minutes, although it won't work with rescue, it took pressure off.

📣 Poor Hope went into labor early today, and sadly, the situation quickly turned dire. 🥲

We’re so grateful to Dr. Ashlyn and the team at The Veterinary Clinic at Copper Crowne for getting her right in for an emergency C-section. Heartbreakingly, all of her puppies had already passed, but she is doing well at this time. 💔

Hope was exhausted and anemic, although thankfully not quite to the point of needing a blood transfusion. Once she was out of recovery, the team showered this sweet girl with hugs, kisses and plenty of food. ❤️

We’ll keep her at the hospital for a day or two while she recovers, but what Hope really needs next is a family of her own.

Luna was transported today to her new rescue! - Opelousas to New Orleans - This 21# baby just wants LOVE and to chase her little tail nub!

Luna is going under the wing of the compassionate team at New Orleans Bulldog Rescue and we are so grateful to them! ❤

Dumped with Lacey at Prejean Park in Lake Charles, thanks to their compassionate finder Kiley and our wonderful supporters they both got the care they needed asap! Lacey has a wonderful foster, (fingers crossed adopter) lined up and now this great news for Luna!!

💔 7/25 Update 🙏RIP Cosmos 🌈 We are heartbroken we couldn’t save you. Thank you to Dr. Kristen, Dr. Ali and the compassionate LVCC team who have been by his side since arrival, monitoring two IV lines and pushing meds and talking sweetly reassuring him he was loved. We are heartbroken for them as well.

We’ll call on our good friend Catherine at Pet Passages Lafayette to honor him.

This sweet boy is fighting for his life at Lafayette Veterinary Care Center after testing positive for parvo, with suspected pneumonia as well.

We're incredibly grateful to Dr. Ali for staying late to get Cosmos' treatment started before handing his care over to Dr. Kristen and the overnight team. We're so lucky to have their help and compassion. Right now, his prognosis is not good. We've told the team to do everything possible to give him a chance, as long as he isn't suffering.

Just a month ago, Cosmos was found chained to a levee with one of the worst embedded collars the LVCC team had ever seen. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to cover his emergency care and the weeks of wound care and bandage changes that followed. He had been making such encouraging progress.

Then, just a few days ago, everything changed.

His foster, Teri Ancelet, noticed he wasn't feeling well, and despite everyone's best efforts, he deteriorated rapidly today. He is now hospitalized where he can receive the 24/7 intensive care he desperately needs.

Trying to save Cosmos will cost thousands of dollars, but right now our focus isn't the bill—it's giving this precious boy every chance to pull through.

Please say a prayer for Cosmos, for Teri, and for the incredible doctors, technicians, and staff at Lafayette Veterinary Care Center who are doing everything in their power to save him.

📣It's a #TerrificTuesday for these three neglected angels from Rayville! ❤️

Meet Chowder, Roman, and Sally—all lovingly named by the families who have already opened their hearts and homes to them.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, these sweet pups are leaving their difficult pasts behind and stepping into the very best years of their lives.

🐾 Chowder may have lost an eye, but he gained something far more precious—the love of Abigail, who works at the veterinary clinic and completely fell in love with him.

🐾 Roman, the other little guy, has a wonderful new mama who's absolutely smitten.

🐾 And Sally, the biggest of the trio, now has a human brother who already adores his new best friend.

Just a couple of days ago, their future looked very different. After compassionate rescuers Cheyenne, Canaan, and Sharon refused to look the other way. When they learned of these dogs living in heartbreaking conditions, they didn't just feel sorry for them—they took action. They contacted law enforcement, fought to get them to safety, and stayed committed every step of the way.

Thanks to our supporters, we were able to step in and cover their emergency care at the Emergency Pet Hospital in Monroe, followed by Chowder's eye removal surgery at Morris Veterinary Hospital.

Once the fleas were gone, Cheyenne cleaned them up, gave them warm beds and full bellies, and with a little extra help from friends, all three also received much-needed baths and nail trims as they began their journey to recovery.

Today, they're no longer victims of neglect—they're cherished family members.

❤️ From ICU to I Love You ❤️ Some stories just stay with you forever... and Rhodes' is one of them.

Just a few short weeks ago, this sweet boy was wandering the streets, terrified, emaciated, covered in painful skin infections, and trusting no one... until two determined animal lovers, Hannah and Abigail, discovered that the way to his heart was a Whole Foods rotisserie chicken. 🍗❤️

Fast forward to today...

Rhodes made his triumphant return to the very team at Lafayette Veterinary Care Center that refused to give up on him. There were hugs, smiles, tail wags, and yes... Hannah and Abigail wouldn't have dreamed of showing up without another Whole Foods chicken... and a bag full of chicken toys, of course! 😂🍗🐔

It felt less like a veterinary visit and more like a family reunion.

His amazing foster mom, Emilie, made the trip all the way from New Orleans to Lafayette to safely deliver him home, where he was welcomed by none other than Dr. Ali—the veterinarian who helped save his life and who now gets to be his official personal veterinarian because a member of her own family has fallen in love with this incredible boy.

Talk about a full-circle moment. ❤️

None of this would have been possible without YOU.

Because of your generosity, we were able to say "yes" when Rhodes needed us most. Together, we got him the emergency care he desperately needed before entrusting him to our wonderful partners at Trampled Rose Rescue. Holly and Emilie poured their hearts into helping his battered skin heal, putting healthy weight back on his tiny frame, and showing him what love feels like.

And the best part? His journey isn't over yet.

Now that Rhodes is back in Lafayette, we'll be able to begin his fast-kill heartworm treatment so he can enjoy the long, healthy life he has always deserved.

From ICU... to "I love you."

From surviving... to thriving.
