Moving to Oxford soon, need recs for everything!!
Hi everyone! I am moving to Oxford and I'm trying to get all my ~essentials~ lined up. Would love your honest recommendations for:

Any tips, warnings, or hidden gems would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!
And yes, I absolutely listed hair and nail salon above a mechanic😂🥲

Anyone know of any legal THC websites?
Peaceful pines hemp farm and Nama cbd are websites that Google have recommended, but I want to be 100% that I’m not ordering from somewhere where it might not be legal, ya know? And I dont know too much about cannabis laws in Mississippi
Jones County Schools Need STOPit—Help Protect Our Kids
Our community has lost too many students to drugs, bullying, mental health crises, and suicide. Most recently, a child's life was taken in a tragedy that started with substance use on school grounds.
Too many students are suffering in silence because they don't know where to turn or are afraid to speak up. They need a safe way to report concerns—about themselves or their peers—without fear.
I started a petition asking Jones County School District to implement STOPit, an anonymous reporting app already used in nearby districts like Hattiesburg Public Schools. Students can scan QR codes around campus and report bullying, mental health concerns, drug use, threats, or safety issues with complete anonymity. Research shows schools using these programs see real reductions in bullying and more students reporting mental health crises *before* they become emergencies.
This isn't about getting kids in trouble. It's about getting them help.
If this resonates with you—if you've watched a young person struggle or felt that same fear about speaking up—consider signing and sharing this petition. These kids deserve a way to be heard. What would you want someone to do if this was your family?
The Valley - I'm making this indie game set in Mississippi/Memphis.
Wanted to share some gameplay of my project 'The Valley', a military detective story set in an undisclosed future Mississippi, created in Unreal Engine. Development has been slow lately, as I do this on the side when I'm not working full time. If this interests you and you would like to follow my indie game developer journey, feel free to check out my Youtube where I post occasional updates.
Mississippi Democratic Party plans boycotts, protests in wake of SCOTUS ruling
magnoliatribune.comI absolutely adore Mississippi, but every time I visit I get absolutely savaged by ants
Full disclosure; I was born, raised, and currently live overseas so I don't have the ant-awareness that seems to be bred into every American.
I visit Mississippi at least once a year, and as soon as I step off the plane the countdown begins as to when the little fuckers will inevitably get me.
This trip I managed to last exactly one week before I stopped to take a picture of a lovely stretch of the Pascagoula coast line and they were on me in less than 30 seconds.
What do you do for a living ?
I’m nosy. That’s it and that’s all and I wanna know what people are doing here . I’m an office manager at a busy healthcare clinic. I do like it and it pays pretty well but I don’t know if I’m gonna stay past this year just to be able to elevate my income
Classic Country Radio in southwest MS?
My truck is old and it doesn't have Bluetooth. I mostly listen to CDs still, but I sometimes tune into the radio. Ive heard some good stuff, but a lot of the country radio isn't for me. Is there any stations around that play older stuff like Keith Whitley, George Jones, and Waylon Jennings or even some newer more traditional artists like Charley Crockett, Sturgill Simpson, and Colter Wall?
New Map just dropped, what’s your fav feature?
I’m personally fond of Wapfays. Hahaha. What’s funnier is how Jackson is still somehow????? In roughly the correct place.

"Where else can you go?": House Democratic leader on Gov's redistricting promise
US Supreme Court reverses ruling against Mississippi legislative redistricting
The U.S. Supreme Court, in a brief order on Monday, reversed a lower court’s ruling that determined Mississippi lawmakers unlawfully diluted Black voting strength when it redrew the state’s legislative districts.
Monday’s order from the high court sends the case back to the lower federal court for further arguments in light of the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent Callais decision, which rolled back protections against racial discrimination in the redistricting process.
HVAC/Refrigerator Repair
My 20 year old grandson is considering going to school to learn home HVAC/Refrigeration repair. Would that have good demand and decent wages in MS?

Event Description
After the Supreme Court dismantled critical parts of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, MSJW is organizing a People Over Politics training specifically geared toward teaching Mississippi voters what is happening and how they can stay organized to resist attacks on voting rights in our state. This a critical moment to stay informed and engaged.
Join Mississippi for a Just World (MSJW) for People Over Politics: Voting Rights Edition at the Bennie G. Thompson Academic Center at Tougaloo College. Together, we will break down the Supreme Court's landmark decision in Louisiana v. Callais and how it changed federal law protecting voters in the redistricting process.
In this hands-on session, participants will learn:
- How today’s ruling could reshape redistricting law across the country
- How maps are drawn and what that means for your vote and your representation at every level of government, from Congress all the way down to your local school board
- How to check your registration, share this information, and stay informed and connected as these changes unfold
Many changes are coming for Mississippi Voters. This summer, Mississippi’s congressional districts will be up for change, and the Mississippi Shield Act (SB 2588) was signed into law earlier this year, which introduces new citizenship verification requirements for voter registration that could affect eligible voters across the state. We are stronger when we learn together and organize together. Join MSJW for People Over Politics: Voting Rights Edition to join a community of Mississippians staying informed and fighting back together.
As part of the training, participants will receive:
- A People Over Politics Advocacy Workbook
- A comprehensive legislative advocacy training
- Information about Louisiana v. Callais, Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, redistricting, the Shield Act, voter registration status, and what documents may be needed
Our mission is to make sure every eligible voter in Mississippi has the information they need to participate fully in our democracy.

Cleveland
Wife and I are getting ready to move to Cleveland for work. We’re in the process of buying a home (but haven’t found the right one yet). What are some things to do around town? We’re both in our early 40’s, have no kids, and are both educators. I will be the new assistant principal at Cleveland Central High School, and she will be teaching inclusion at the high school as well.
My wife is kinda introverted but I like to make friends. I am a novice guitar player, avid video gamer, and we both love the outdoors (hiking, camping, kayaking, fishing, etc.).
If anyone on here is from the area and shares the same interests hit me up. Would love to connect with some like minded individuals.
TIA
