Life in Lumberton
I'm looking at buying a DIY fixer upper in Lumberton and was hoping I could some real answers about living in the general area for two elders in their 60's.
I have a chance to buy a 3 bed 2 1/2 bath on one acre next to the High School sight unseen except via video of a friend that lives there and owns a business. She fell in love with it and says while it needs repairs, it's very doable.
Can anyone tell me a few things about life there? Are the people friendly? How is the crime? Property theft? What is the best hospital in case of an emergency?
And I know this sounds crazy...but what about wildlife in town. I'm only blocks from the downtown area, but know I am currently in New Orleans, and I've read that rattlesnakes and bears can be an issue? I've lived in the swamps 3/4 of my life, but inquiring minds want to know!! Like...should I keep a shotgun handy? I'm mostly worried about my dog on the property getting hurt or my significant other getting hurt as he has dementia.
Anything else I should be aware of? What's the best town nearby to shop at? Anything else that you can offer would be wonderful before I sign closing papers!!
