HELP NEEDED | Support For Abandoned Cat Elfy in Her 84-Day Battle Against Neuro FIP. Any amount you can send will be a big help in her medical treatment. Thank you.

Good day, everyone!

I am a solo animal rescuer based in Manila, Philippines.

Elfy is an abandoned cat whom I rescued after finding her extremely weak, malnourished, and struggling to eat. On May 9, I was able to bring her to the vet. According to the vet, Elfy has dental issues and was diagnosed with Neuro FIP. She was confined for three days and prescribed oral medications, as well as GS-441524 — a daily injectable treatment for FIP.

Elfy received her first GS injection on May 15 and has been receiving her daily shots continuously since then. Thankfully, she has been showing improvements every single day. Her weight has increased from 1.6 kg to 2 kg, and she now has more energy and a much better appetite.

Today, I was able to bring Elfy back to Serbisyo Beterinaryo Animal Hospital (the same animal hospital where she was confined and diagnosed with Neuro FIP) for a follow-up check-up. The vet said she is slightly anemic (usually happens to Neuro FIP patients) and was prescribed an oral iron supplement. The vet also confirmed that Elfy’s FIP treatment will last up to 84 days.

I was also able to purchase Elfy’s second vial of GS-441524 through the website recommended by the vet: https://www.basmifipphilippines.com/

Elfy is now on her second vial. Since the dosage depends on her weight and she continues to gain weight almost every day, each vial only lasts for a few days. The website where I purchase the GS medication also has a dosage calculator that veterinarians follow.

Today, I am humbly knocking on your heart's door to help support Elfy’s medical expenses as she continues her fight against Neuro FIP. She is incredibly brave and strong, but she still needs our help. Let us please help her win this battle. She deserves the chance to live a healthier, happier, and longer life.

Any amount you can share will mean so much and will go directly toward Elfy’s treatment and care. Rest assured that I will continue posting updates with photos and receipts throughout Elfy’s recovery journey. Thank you.

Donations will be used for:

• 2 vials of GS-441524 ($35 per vial) – $70
• 12 cans of recovery food ($4 per can) – $48
• 12 days of injection fees ($8 per shot/day) – $96
• 12 days of transportation for injections ($2 per day) – $24
• Follow-up check-up every 14 days (next appointment: June 4) – $23

Total Needed: $261

Please note that I bring Elfy to the nearest veterinary clinic, Deloso Veterinary Clinic, for her daily GS-441524 injections.

Day 1 of treatment seemingly causing issues

Hello! My kitty is 7 years old and was just diagnosed with FIP yesterday. This has been a many months-long journey of back and forth to the vet, trying to find out what has been causing her to be so sick for so long. She has had extreme diarrhea, occasional vomiting, and has lost a tremendous amount of weight since her illness began. The vet prescribed molnupiravir and she started it yesterday. Initially, I was very hopeful but today has been scary.

This morning, I noticed she jumped off of my desk and had a rough landing, like her legs were too weak to properly support herself. I noticed three other times today that she was unable to jump up on chairs, couches, or the table which she had never previously had any trouble with. She also fell earlier today as a result of not being able to stabilize herself after attempting to jump off a surface.

She walks sort of strangely too, and seems dizzy. She wobbles when she sits down and seems like she's having trouble balancing. I am now keeping her in one room and monitoring her closely so that she does not attempt to jump on or off of any surfaces and injure herself.

She doesn't seem lost or confused in any way, just extremely and uncharacteristically weak. Is any of this normal when starting treatment? Is it normal for her to seem weak, dizzy, and lethargic just a day after beginning her treatment? All local vets are closed but I plan on calling hers first thing in the morning, I am just terrified of taking my eyes off of her at all for the night. If anyone has ever gone through something similar starting treatment or has any advice, it is very very much welcome. Thank you!

Cat with Wet FIP started limping on one leg 3 weeks into GS Oral treatment.

My cat Zorro (2 y/o neutered male) has been diagnosed with and tested positive for wet (effusive) FIP and subsequently started treatment on April 29th. He made a tremendous recovery these past 3 weeks with a full return to appetite and pretty much all of his fluid having been absorbed or pissed out (he peed a LOT) and it looked like all was going well. Suddenly we noticed for the past couple of days he started eating less of his food and was less energetic overall, which we thought may have just been because it was excrutiatingly hot over here in NYC - until we noticed yesterday that he had started to hide under the couch on and off for the better part of the day and moreover he started limping on his hind right leg.

I've been in touch with my admins on FIP Global and they immediately recommended we up him to the next level dose - he'd been taking 15 mg/kg of 50 mg/ml liquid suspension from Stokes (Bova) and were told to up it to 25 mg/kg - as it's possible he may have backslid and somehow started getting neurological symptoms. He seems a little lethargic but still otherwise attentive and mimics aspects of his usual routine but with significantly less energy, he struggles to hop onto the couch now but he hopped on to try to cuddle with me and instead of going on my lap he laid on the side.

I guess I'm making this post to kind of gather other people's experiences with this, has anyone had something similar and is there hope for recovery?

Shrek needs help

Meet Shrek 🐾

Shrek is a senior male cat rescued from a parking lot in heartbreaking condition. He had bald patches, wounds across his body, and was severely underweight despite being regularly fed.

After being taken to a veterinary clinic, he was diagnosed with mycoplasma, FIP, food allergies causing skin issues, and a mouth infection. He will also need dental treatment, neutering, and vaccinations once he recovers from FIP.

Right now, Shrek is safe in a paid foster home, which costs 400 AED per month, while he undergoes treatment. His GS medication costs 140 AED per vial, and his total treatment expenses over the next three months are estimated to be around 2,500 AED (687 USD).

Shrek has already been through so much, and now he finally has a chance to recover and live comfortably. Any donation, no matter the amount, would make a huge difference in helping him get the care he needs 🤍

I’ve attached pictures from the parking lot where he was rescued from as well as the blood reports and bills from the vet as proof. The GS vials are being privately sourced as they are cheaper that way than buying from the clinic (I brought a few initially from the vet). I cannot attach videos here for some reason but feel free to message me privately if you require additional proof.

You can donate through the link below, I will receive the amount then pay the foster and the supplier. I can also send proof of transactions after payment if required.

Thank you

Ocular FIP, day 62 of oral GS-441524

our sweet girl has ocular FIP and has lost all vision in her right eye. we're 62 days into the 84-day treatment and within the last week she developed a gnarly ulcer. we've stopped her prednisolone drops, started tobramycin, and also started serum eye drops. signs of an ulcer started around day 50-55. i'm concerned now whether or not we should stop treatment at 84 days, or extend to ensure she's fought the virus and isn't going to relapse. thankfully, her bloodwork has always been great all things considered, and never shown true signs of FIP, but it makes it hard to know where we're at. last optho appointment last month was nothing but great news, her eye pressure was building and her retinal damage was showing signs of improvement, so she IS responsive to GS. the ulcer caused has her eye pressure to drop again, but she's showing signs of improvement (we've fought eye pressure and uveitis the entire time). has anyone had a similar experience? did you prolong treatment? if so, how long?

FIP diagnosis via fecal sample

Hiya!

So my kitten died from severe anaemia. We were just about to test him for FIP but it turned out his anaemia was so bad, he'd need blood transfusion and even then, the vet couldn't guarantee it would help him. He was only 12 weeks and underweight from the beginning.

My vet team offered they kept his stool sample, he was hospitalised on Monday, and for another few days they can actually test it for FIP. It costs circa £180.

But as far as I know, FIP cannot be confirmed via fecal sample? Only coronavirus can? Which he already had confirmed.

Which is why I want to argue with the breeder to refund me for the kitten cause he sold me a sick kitten. The vet teams says he must have been sick, corona plus some bacteria, already when I got him.

Have diagnostic methods changed very recently? Can we actually even partially confirm FIP via poop?

Thanks

a question regarding a fip patient

hello. i have three cats and one of them recently got diagnosed with FIP, and we've known that they all are covid positive (two strays and one rescue) since last year after a full check up. he's in relatively good condition but is been so depressed since i moved him to my room. we separated him from my other two cats on our vet's advice but i couldn't help but think if isolation is necessary since they too have covid and as far as i know FIP is not contagious to other cats like covid is. this question might come out ignorant but right now I'm on my last leg trying to understand this disease, thank you 🙏

Recurring FIP

Hi! My cat has had neurological FIP twice now. Recently he was showing symptoms of FIP so we took him to the vet to get him checked out. This would be his second time relapsing and his third time with the treatment. While I am experienced and confident in my ability to care for him, I’m less confident that it’s ethical and financially sustainable to continue putting him through treatment/relapse. From my understanding it is supposed to be very rare that they relapse and I’m starting to feel helpless… My heart hurts so much for him and I’m lost as to what the right thing to do is. Have any of y’all experienced a cat relapsing multiple times? What would you do in my situation?

Ocular FIP?

I brought my cat to the vet due to sudden cloudy eye. He believed it’s a cataract after some bloodwork.

Should I get a second opinion? Her energy levels still seem high and she still loves to eat. However now when walking down and up the stairs she looks back at me instead.

I have an eye appointment scheduled for her on June 10 but wanted to know if you guys think this is more of an emergency.

Hello po, I’m just asking for some advice and help as well.

Hello po,

I’m just asking for some advice and help as well. This is Tatang Harvard. He has Dry FIP and his treatment was extended for another month, making it a total of 128 days of FIP treatment. Has anyone here experienced something similar where the treatment lasted more than 100 days? The fluid in his abdomen still hasn’t gone away, even after several tests have already been done.

IHe is currently boarding at MFC. If you also have spare coins or any small financial help, it would really mean a lot for Tatang. 😢🙏

Orla update, 5th day of treatment

I previously posted about our kitten Orla who was diagnosed with FIP very quickly and has since started medication. We have noticed improvements immediately with her eating again and being playful and very cuddly, she almost seems fully back to her old self.

The only thing I have noticed today is that her nose seems congested and she is sneezing a fair bit, should we be concerned about this and what can we do to help her.

Any advice welcome.

HELP NEEDED | PLEASE HEALP GINGER FOR NEURO FIP| Seeking Support for Her Medical Treatment. Any amount you can send will be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Hello everyone 😞

I am humbly asking for help for my cat, Ginger, who was recently diagnosed with FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis), a deadly disease in cats. I am only a first-year nursing student and I have already spent almost PHP 17,000 for his confinement, CBC, xray, blood chemistry tests, antibiotics, and supportive medications.

As of now, Ginger urgently needs GS-441524 treatment to continue fighting FIP 😞 One vial costs PHP 3,190 and is only good for 7 days. His special food and other medical needs are also very costly.

Despite everything, Ginger is still fighting 🥹 He is eating better now, gaining weight slowly, and becoming active again. I truly want to give him a chance to survive and recover.

Any amount will mean so much for Ginger’s treatment 😞 I will provide receipts, proof of treatment, and updates for transparency.

Thank you so much po 🤍

Our Maine Coon was diagnosed with Wet FIP 4 days ago. We suspect one of our other cats is a chronic FCoV shedder. What to do?

Our Maine Coon, Ash, is 1 year and 3 months old, and we took her to the ER on Monday (5/11) because she has an abdominal ascites with a ton of fluid (I believe she has about 500ccs of fluid in her abdominal cavity). 4 days ago we got the test results back saying that she has tested positive for FIP and is currently undergoing treatment.

The ER did a double cavity ultrasound and a bunch of tests in order to rule out everything they possibly could. Luckily, her heart, her liver, and her kidneys all seemed to be in great shape, though she is anemic, which is another symptom of Wet FIP. Besides that, she’s been eating great, going to the bathroom like normal, though she is a bit lethargic.

We have 4 other cats in the household, and we suspect one of them is a chronic FCoV shedder, Anya. We took her in about a year and a half ago. Prior to that, she was a stray cat for about 4 years and has had 2-3 litters. She is still extremely skittish and solitary, and hardly moves, though she is very food motivated. She hardly plays and has a fear of every toy we have shown her.  We suspect that she may be a chronic FCoV shedder because she always has had diarrhea/wet stool.

We have several concerns…: is it safe for Ash (FIP) and Anya (suspected chronic FCoV) to live together? Once Ash finishes treatment, can she safely live around Anya? Or, will Ash risk becoming infected with FIP again? Do cats with FIP gain a sort of immunity? Is there a treatment for Anya?

My parents are insistent that Ash has to be permanently segregated from the other cats to avoid risk of reinfection, but I believe that’s unnecessary. I’m also aware that Ash will shed FCoV as well. We have automatic litter boxes and we are currently getting automated pour-over water bowls to prevent the cats from drinking recycled saliva.

Please help!

TLDR; I have a cat with FIP and a cat with (suspected) chronic FCoV. Can they safely live together without a risk (or little risk) of reinfection (post FIP treatment).
