She prefers seedless slices held at a 45° angle. Keep it steady, please!

Should I get my beagle spayed ?

My beagle is 5+ months old. She’s still such a baby. She’s not too hyper active. Nothing we cannot manage. Is it necessary to get her spayed? I don’t feel like putting her through that. Please tell me the pros and cons of getting her spayed. And if so, what’s the best age to do it?

My beagle bit my husband :-(

I've had my beagle for about a year. I adopted him from a shelter and he's been gentle with my teenagers, and very affectionate and sweet. The only behavioral concern he's shown is resource guarding, i.e. growling f you try to take a treat away. My husband has never been a fan of dogs but he was willing to compromise when I said I really wanted a family dog. Aside from hating the beagle glitter everywhere lol he had started to warm up to him by playing with him, giving him treats etc. Well on Friday, my husband came home from work and started playing with the dog. My dog rolled over on his back and my husband started spinning him around. Suddenly, my dog bites at his hand and punctures his skin. Needless to say things are very tense around here. He's back to "this is why I don't like dogs" and feeling resentful about the dog. I tried to explain that the dog probably bit him because he didn't like spinning, but he says I'm "making excuses" for the dog. Any advice?

When to Spay?

Help! We have our girl (Mags) scheduled to get spayed this week, but her breeder suggests waiting about a year. Our last beagle was spayed around this time, she passed away at 11 from a tumor rupture on her spleen.

We’ve never waited that long or gone through a heat (breeder says her dogs don’t usually hit their first heat cycle until 12-18 months), so we’re not sure what to do. We’ve always just followed vet advice.

I’m seeing some studies say it could make a difference and other studies saying the difference in waiting is negligible. For ref, she’s 6 months old (in two weeks), weighs about 15lbs and has been steadily and healthily gaining.

Any advice?

Just lost my boy. Heartbroken.

Maynard. Born 12 September 2012. Died 2 July 2026. Went out peacefully on his own. I held his chest and felt his little heart stop after he let out one final breath. Crying in the shower seems to help. Not sure how long the pain will last. I will never forget you baby boy. You were the best part of my life!

Bonnie Boo

My nightmare, my grey hairs, my last pack member and the reason my heart is now in a million pieces.
Bonnie boo, my little Cinnabon I can’t believe you’ve gone. It was supposed to be a gentle goodbye tomorrow but instead, and true to your nature, it was an emergency run to out of hours and chaotic. I’m so sorry you didn’t deserve to go the way you did, I don’t know how to do this shitshow of life without you. 10 years is no where near enough. I love you Bon Bons you’re back with your pack and you’re all better 💔

Fostering a fearful/anxious ‘beagle mix’ that is also pitbull mix-hoping for advice

Hello all-

Hoping for some advice here. I recently agreed to foster a 2 YO male beagle mix, that has now been in my home for about a day. The dog is very fearful of new people/situations, but does not appear agressive.

The dog is also on Prozac, trazadone, and gabapentin (the last two are for a foster transition).

I have no experience with dog fostering and feel a bit ill-prepared for what I’ve gotten myself into-because the beagle mix is also a Pitt bull mix. This may have been mentioned over the phone but I didn’t pick up on it, and I didn’t see photos until after I’d already agreed to the foster. And once I’d agreed I thought well I’ll just see how he is in my home etc; and it’s starting to sink what I’ve gotten myself into.

Logic tells me a fearful pit bull on Prozac is not going to get adopted, so the only solution is that this dog is able to change his behavior and go off his medication at some point.

I’m a little frustrated why the shelter gave me this dog knowing I’d never fostered before.

Does anyone have any advice on what to do with this situation?

I made cookies for my niece and Bananthony Cream Pie was a big help! He knew immediately when they were done!

Seriously. I made two batches and both times he moved from his bed to the oven when the cookies had less than a minute left to go! He might have a new job as my baking timer!
