Full splootage situation with bonus ear malfunction hi-jinks!

Luna is a half JRT and half Italian greyhound 🐾

Hi everyone! I’m looking at two different Jack Russell Terrier puppies from two separate local breeders. Neither puppy has official papers (KCP/FCI), but both breeders claim the parents have excellent pedigrees.

To give you some context, a registered JRT puppy with a full pedigree in my country normally costs between $530 and $800 USD (2,000 to 3,000 PEN). These puppies are being offered for a fraction of that price because of the lack of registration, which makes it a very tempting offer, but also something to analyze carefully.

I haven't met them in person yet. I know choosing a puppy is often about love at first sight and a personal bond rather than finding a "perfect" dog. However, before I visit them, I would love to get your objective opinions on which one physically aligns closer to the official JRT breed standard and why.

Here is the situation for each:

• Puppy 1 (Broken Coat - ~$210 USD / 800 PEN): He is 4 months old. The breeder is a bit less transparent about the parents, but the puppy itself looks well-built and correct for a broken coat within his range.

• Puppy 2 (Smooth Coat - ~$180 USD / 700 PEN): He is 3.5 months old. This breeder has been very transparent, immediately sharing the parents' names and photos. The pup looks physically promising, though I have minor doubts about whether his muzzle is a bit long/snipey at this stage, and he has noticeable ticking (brown freckles) on his front legs.

I’ve combined the videos of both puppies into one clip so you can compare them. Based strictly on their structure, proportions, and features, which one looks closer to a true Jack Russell Terrier to you, and what are your reasons? Thanks for your help!

This week, I had to say goodbye to my beloved 15-year-old Jack Russell Terrier. ❤️🐾
You were by my side for more than half of my life. You were my first dog, and the one who first showed me just how deeply you can love a dog. I got to grow up with you, and you became such a special part of my life.
When I moved away from home, you stayed with my parents, where you got to spend your later years surrounded by love. Even though we no longer shared the same home, you always had a special place in my heart.
I’m especially grateful that you got to meet my current dogs too. ❤️
My heart feels a little emptier now, and I miss you more than words can say. You left a little paw-shaped space in my heart that will always be yours.
Thank you for all the years, all the memories, and all the love.
You are my little angel dog now. Rest peacefully. ❤️🐾

The last photo is the very last photo I was able to get with my oh so wonderful dog before having to go off to work, he passed the same day sometime in the afternoon. I knew it was coming, but nothing could brace me for it no matter how much I prepared myself. What a lucky guy I am to have had him all the way from Kindergarten to Graduating Highschool and even through parts of college. This super tough for me and I am so glad I got the time I did with him, he will be forever cherished. He is buried under the wisteria tree in my backyard with a lovely placard in memory.

The birds sing their song ever still.

The bugs continue to chirp.

Everything passes as if nothing has happened, yet a void forms from a pit in my chest, crawling up my throat.

I wish I could squeeze your paw one last time, or feel your never ceasing licks, or run my fingers through your always soft short fur, but sometimes, goodbyes aren't so nice.

I hope that wherever you are now, you rest easy.

Losing you was akin to losing a brother. You were so, so loved. I will truly miss you Tuxie.
