Hit someone with a company vehicle, not sure what comes next
LOCATION: New York
Long story short, I hit someone last night. Completely my fault. Cops came. It was just a scuff/scrape on his rear bumper. The vehicle I was driving is the vehicle of a company I work for, which I am insured on. At this point, I have already filed a police report and reported a claim to the insurance. I know the man I hit has insurance as well because I took a photo of it.
The man just called me now and told me we don’t have to go through insurance because if he files a claim against me, the monthly payment is going to skyrocket. Rather he will just have me pay the mechanic the price it costs to repair the vehicle.
What’s the best course of action here? He told me the insurance is waiting on him to file back a claim against me. So just not sure what the best course of action is here and I’ve never even been in an accident before. Just nervous as fuckkkk
Help!
EDIT: I have already told the company so they are in the loop. The man I hit has also offered as opposed to going through insurance I pay his mechanic bill of $650 instead. My gut says just go through insurance to stay protected, but the company I work at is pretty small and I don’t want their monthly to go up if I can help it. I know I surrender that autonomy once I got into an accident, but it’s the truth.
