Accident while driving - being sued for personal injury

I wanted to make some extra money, and I started Doordashing for a few weeks last year. I didn't realized that I was supposed to contact my insurance to add that coverage. On 12/24/25 I was involved in an accident while I was delivering my last order of the day. The accident was my fault. We exchanged insurance info, a cop came but didn't do a report because they were not injuries and the cars were drivable. A few days later my insurance let me know that they wouldn't cover the claim and to contact doordash. Doordash said they would cover the other vehicle. I never did doordash again because my car ended up with $7k worth of damage (my car isn't worth that much), fastfoward to 5/20/26 and I got a letter on my door from an injury lawyer, I'm getting sued. Has anyone experienced this? what's the worst case scenario? Would doordash help with the suit?

Bus Driver hit my car who’s at fault

So I was in the right hand lane of this road.
The bus driver just coming out of the bus lane was in the left hand side lane. At the traffic lights we were both turning to go on to the main station road.
He clipped the front of my passenger side damaging my bumper and lights taking the corner wide even though I was as far as I could be in the right hand lane and left space and slowed down
He was going fast turning the corner

Hit tree while backing up out of flood

Can anyone help me figure out how bad this damage is / what this might cost to repair?

I have a 2022 Honda HR-V and tonight I got caught in really severe flooding during torrential rain on Long Island/Queens. The water got up to a little over the bottom of my doors and while trying to get out safely, the car started losing traction/drifting in the water and I backed into a tree.

The rear hatch, bumper, and taillight got damaged pretty badly (pics attached). Afterward, the check engine light came on along with parking brake/traction control warnings. The weird thing is the car still drives completely normally as far as I can tell — no shaking, jerking, overheating, weird noises, etc. I was even able to drive it from Douglaston back to Lindenhurst.

I also realized my gas cap was loose and tightened it, but the lights are still on.

Does this look mostly cosmetic/body damage + sensor/electrical issues? Or does this sound potentially way worse because of the flooding? Also realistically what kind of repair cost/time am I looking at here?

I start an internship June 9th and I’m honestly freaking out a little. Any advice/opinions would really help.

Insurance lawsuit

Hi reddit, so like, im contemplating on getting a lawyer, but i also would like to hear your guys thoughts on this. Last summer, I was involved in a 3 way car crash in phoenix AZ, and the car in front of me hit the car in front of them before the collision with my car and the car in front my vehicle. Now my policy covers 100k per person up to 300k per accident. The guy at the very front told me he did feel 2 hits, the first one being significantly worse than the second, albeit because I noticed after the sudden stop that there was an accident and lost half the space in between and the car in front of me because I only noticed to late. I was driving a smooth 35 an hour and did hit my brakes, but like i said, didnt notice untill later that they already crashed, and on my end, it did look like they were still driving and had no indication that there was a crash except a sudden stop. The car in front of mine didnt even have working tail lights that showed they stopped. Now the guy in the very front, who told me, and the police, and its documented in the police report that he felt 2 hits, is suing my insurance 157k dollars and in the letter says that future medical expenses are inevitable aswell because that is how much it cost him to get medical treatment. Baisically, suing my insurance for the full accident. His car was not totaled, the vehicle in front of me was not totaled, my car unfortunately, was totaled, not because of super severe damage, but it did leak fluid and my insurance didnt wanna pay to fix that so they gave me a check and went home. Would it be wise to get my own lawyer at this point considering this is a 3 way car crash, and that the first incident was going to be treated separately or let the insurance company deal with this first. Not looking for any finger pointing or blame game, only went into detail with the accident to paint a better picture and if you have any questions I will answer in the comments, but I do want to know your thoughts if getting a lawyer wohld be wise at this stage or if im overthinking it

Repair assessment.

Hi,

My car was parked and a bus hit it. Car is Toyota Auris hybrid 2016 model. It got a damage at rare quarter panel. Bus insurance will be covering the repair cost.
Toyota suggested that repair will be cutting the damaged section and fitting in new section with welding and then blending the paint.

My question: Is this a normal repair and I should accept it with the fact that it will significantly reduce the value of my car after repair.

Do people buy a car with such repair or it will be difficult to sell it again?

What should I do?

I was involved in a pretty bad car accident today. While I was trying to make a left turn, someone two cars behind me attempted to pass on the left side in a two-way traffic lane. I honestly wish I was making this up 😂😂.

They sideswiped my car and took off without stopping. Fortunately, I have a very good dash cam, and I was able to capture the entire accident in 4K, including the other vehicle’s license plate. I called my insurance company, and they were able to pull all the information from the footage and the report. The car is registered under a female owner, but I’m not sure who was actually driving, since the windows were heavily tinted.

I called an ambulance because my neck and right knee were hurting. The police also arrived, and we filed a report. I was taken to the hospital, where I had a CT scan and am currently waiting for the results. I’m also going to see my doctor tomorrow because, a few hours after the accident, I started getting a headache, which I was told could be a symptom of a concussion.

At the hospital, I was advised that I will most likely need physical therapy. This is where things become confusing for me.

I am leaving the U.S. in two days for a month due to a family emergency that I cannot reschedule. I will not be back until late June.

I see two possible options:

First, I can start physical therapy where I am going, pay out of pocket, and bring all receipts and possibly notarized documentation as proof that I received treatment overseas, and then try to get reimbursed through the other driver’s insurance.

Second, I can avoid physical therapy while I am away, manage the pain as best as I can, and start therapy once I return. However, I am worried that if I wait a month, insurance might deny the claim, arguing that if physical therapy was necessary, I should have stayed in the U.S. They might also question whether the need for therapy is related to the accident or another issue.

I know this is a rare and complicated situation, but I would really appreciate any advice. If anyone has had a similar experience, I would also be grateful to hear from you.

Advice/Help??

I don’t post here but i’m just looking for any sort of help,

so my mom got into an accident today on Figueroa/Slauson (Los Angeles) by a truck that carrys cement. She was waiting for the light to turn to go straight and the truck was making a left turn and hit her side leaving a big scratch and messing up her mirror.

The guy who hit her refuse to acknowledge it and said it wasnt him and began looking at his dash cam, my mom began to do the same but my mom doesnt really understand technology and when she got home the camera had already deleted the footage (she drives for long periods of time so the camera stays recording and eventually deletes after a certain amount is recorded).

I guess im just wondering if anyone would know what to do in this situation? The guy refuse to give her his license or insurance so she only got a photo of his license plate and of the company name on the side, but with no dash cam footage and him refusing to cooperate what should she do? This is how her car looks

Is this car totaled?

Left front quarter destroyed, airbag deployed, 40mph, rear ended a car that stopped dead in front.

So sad. I love my little pink car.

I’d rather get rear ended than become the rear ender

I was driving on the highway at around 60 mph when the car in front of me suddenly came to a short stop. I slammed the brakes, but there is a limit to how fast a car can come to a full stop, and I ended up rear ending them.

I was actually keeping a safe distance, as can clearly be seen in the dashcam video. It was a bigger distance than 95% of people usually keep on the highway, especially on a highway with a lot of traffic. Thankfully, his car didn’t get damaged, so I didn’t have to deal with that, but my car got significantly damaged. I don’t have collision insurance, so I had to pay out of pocket to fix it.

Here’s what I learned from that experience.

Since legally, being the person who rear ends someone usually makes you automatically at fault, even if realistically there was almost no way to avoid it, you should always brake as hard as necessary and come to a full stop, even if you’re worried about getting rear ended by someone behind you.

(The truth is, it’s not always realistic to keep enough distance to come to a complete stop from highway speed in heavy traffic. If you leave that much space, someone will usually merge into your lane, and then you have to back up even more. So when something suddenly happens in front of you, your best option is still to stop and let the person behind you deal with their own following distance).

Also, front end damage is usually a lot more expensive than rear end damage, because you can damage expensive parts around the engine and other major components.

One more piece of advice from my experience. If you don’t have collision insurance and the other car wasn’t damaged, think very carefully before opening a claim with your insurance. I opened a claim because I thought GEICO would help me, especially since I had the whole thing on camera. Instead, they refused to even try to fight it, and once it was on my history, my insurance price went up.

What do you guys think?

Steps following a car crash

I was T-boned pretty badly earlier today heading to grab lunch. The red car is mine and the blue car is the other drivers. I was pretty shaken up because the air bag hit me hard in the chest and face, I ended up getting cuts on my forehead and I may have rib bruises. I’ll likely get scans if pain progresses but was prescribed muscle relaxers at an urgent care.

Honestly, I have never been in an accident before so I wasn’t aware I was supposed to ask for the other persons insurance on the spot. A police report was made and I was given a paper detailing where my car was towed and where to go to pick up the crash report. There was also a car in front of me that I hit and he saw the entire thing and that is on the report, he was yelling at the other guy while I was pretty dazed asking what happened. I’m not at fault here

I honestly don’t know where to even begin, I don’t have the crash report yet but do I still contact my insurance? All I have is a paper with a complaint number? I was able to drive my car deeper into the grass, I’m guessing it’s totaled?

Im not sure how any of this works, I’m seeking some guidance.

Overhaul the dash cam ecosystem (Dev team)

Instead of a very cheap consumer design this needs to pivot to a more robust design that is actually useful and reliable in the field. Instead of unreliable SD cards whether they're high intensity high endurance or not rely on a solid state cooling system inside a brain unit that gets mounted under a driver's seat or passenger seat with an internal battery system that is rated for high heat and also managed by the same for independent solid state cooling system. At ththipoint you could also engineer onboard AI acceleration that processes videos in real time automatically tags anomalies and can send them directly to the vault automatically once the vehicle is in Wi-Fi range. Then at this point the individual physical dash cam housing are basically just dumb sensors maybe with a series of buttons for immediate control on a fly. Then instead of a volt power cable they get powered directly by the brain module which is then powered by the vehicles diagnostic port whereas is primarily used to charge the onboard battery of the device itself rather than giving it mission critical power. This prevents the vehicle from constantly disabled and power to that port and shutting down the system. This is how your dash cam should have been invented in first place so that they would actually be superior to the rest of the industry. Now bring this to the leaders so that they realize in order to actually have a reliable product they need to increase the budget of ttheR&D team. Thank you.

Looking for advice…..

Two months ago, my daughter parked her car legally on a street in her college town and ran into a restaurant to pick up lunch.

While she was in the restaurant a large flatbed truck turning into a construction site hit the driver’s side of the car. She came out to find the damage; thank heavens another driver on the street AND the manager of the construction site both witnessed what happened; the management company also had cameras at their building that captured the whole incident. She was able to approach the driver that day and get his company’s information. Guy had no clue he’d hit the car.

Needless to say, the car was totaled. I mean passenger door wouldn’t open, pedals and driver’s seat license ere pushed into the back seat. If she had been in the car, he would have killed her.

Insurance claim has been settled by the company’s insurance carrier and I am thankful that my daughter was not in the car.

Still rattled by this man’s blase attitude towards the whole incident (I was on speaker with my daughter and witnesses as they approached the driver). I would have no idea how to steer a tractor trailer through a 4 lane divided street in a college town, but something makes me think that a professional with a CDL license should be able to turn a corner and not hit someone/something-the parking spots along the street were open; sometimes you’ll see them closed for construction, but this was NOT the case.

I’m not looking for more $, but I think that this trucking company needs to know @ how close their employee came to a totally catastrophic incident and maybe he shouldn’t be on the road (my daughter said he was as or as her one uncle (a retired trucker in his early 70s). Is it ok for me to send an email to the employer with pictures of the damage?

Parked car was hit and now the insurance side feels more confusing than the accident

My car was hit while it was parked, and I honestly thought this would be pretty simple because there’s clear damage and enough information to show another vehicle was involved. But now that I’m dealing with the insurance side, it feels a lot less straightforward than I expected. The main issue is that I’m being told I may still have to go through my own insurance first, pay the deductible, and then wait while they try to track down the other driver or their insurance. I always assumed that if there were photos, a plate number, or some kind of proof, the responsible person’s insurance would be handled pretty quickly, but apparently it can take time. I’m mostly worried about doing something wrong early in the process. I don’t want to say the wrong thing to insurance, miss some document I should have saved, or agree to something before I understand how this usually works.

Collision conundrum

A week ago I backed into one of those massive pipes in a parking garage and messed up my trunk lid. I really don't give a shit about the dent in my trunk, but there are spots with no paint left and I'm worried about it rusting.

I'm in a bind with repairing it, however. I'm on leave from work until August, so I'm not in the financial situation to shell out hundreds/thousands. Don't want my insurance to go up if I can help it; it's high enough. Also, if I wait until I'm back at work I don't want to have missed the period where I can claim damage w/ insurance.

I really just don't know enough about the whole single-car accident repair process and don't trust insurance or auto body shops to give me advice in my best financial interest. Should I just take the hit to my insurance, or would it be better to get this repair done myself? If I go with insurance could I wait until the end of the summer to claim or pay? Or, could I get away with just leaving the damage there? My last priority is cosmetics, just worried about the long-term effects on my vehicle.

Wife rear ended someone at low speeds, just looking for some advice.

A few weeks ago my wife was coming off the highway to turn right. The car in front of her went to turn onto the street but then stopped suddenly and my wife ended up hitting her.

The woman exited the car and apologized, saying she just recently began driving. Neither of them exchanged insurance info, took photos, or called the police. They did exchange phone numbers which led to the woman reaching out for insurance info the following day.

I told my wife to ask for pictures of damage, which the woman did not send.

Now we have a claim and aren’t sure what next steps are. We call our insurance back and tell the story? We get a lawyer? Any help is appreciate as this is my first time w anything like this as well

Car hit. Settlement claim offers coming in

I live in New York and was driving my car with my entire family in it. My car was hit twice on the drivers side. We all had to go in ambulance and hospital. Minor injuries and luckily we will all be ok. The other driver was driving recklessly. Either too fast or following me to close or passing me illegally on the left or just flat out not paying attention when they hit me.

I received a claim offer for damage to my car which was half of the damage estimate. I verbally accepted despite the fact that this whole situation is going to be a big financial loss for me because I need a new car.

My question is: My insurance is saying they want to talk about a second claim offer for pain and suffering, etc. I think they’re wondering if I’m going to file a lawsuit against them or the other driver since they were ruled 100% at fault. The other driver also has the same insurance as me. I’m considering filing a lawsuit but am curious about this second claim my insurance said they want to discuss. Does any know how this works ? Any advice is appreciated.

Crash Advice UK

Hi,

I had a car accident about 4 months ago, where the person who crashed into me accepted 100% liability at the scene and to his/ my insurance company.

Everything went well and I was paid out in full for the write off of my car.

However, last week, I received a email from my insurance company saying that his insurance company has switched liability, denying his fault and putting me down as the reason for the crash.

What happened:

I was travelling down a long road, heading towards a cross road. My light was green and I was fully established within my lane, travelling approx 25/30 MPH; proceeding straight.

The other person was approaching the cross road, he was turning (his right) from the opposite direction, so therefore he would need to cross my lane to get to where he’s going. I was fully visible, being a quiet road with only myself going down my lane. As I was coming up towards the cross road, I saw him approaching the middle of the junction, preparing to turn. I assumed he saw me since I was very evidently visible so I progressed with caution. Just as I went past my solid white traffic light lines, I noticed that he wasn’t going to stop, and at the very last second he accelerated in hopes to get across before I arrived. In the moment he accelerated, it caused me to hit his car at what seemingly seems like a head on direction.

From the impact, his car went rolling down at an angle towards his side of the roads pavement and mine was stuck stationary in the middle of the cross road.

Both are fine and uninjured.

He was clear that he made the mistake in person and owned up to it with his insurance company which is why it was such an easy and swift process, until now.

I have a Dashcam recording of the scene. However, I know this sounds really suspicious, but the Dashcam cut off 2 seconds prior to the collision. I checked online and it could have possibly been a restart since Dashcams record in intervals and I was just unlucky for it to be the time it restarts. However, on the very last frame of the recording, you can somewhat see my car swerve out of the way in an act of dodging his moving car.

I want your guys suggestions on it. Should i provide the Dashcam? Would it be beneficial to?

I have attached the video, images of the crash and a layout of what it looks like.

Please give me your honest suggestions.

Thanks
