First 8 String - Kiesel Headless 8. Thoughts and opinions on 6-8 string transition, specs, and wrapping it?
Hey everyone,
I’m about to jump into the 8 string world with a US Custom Kiesel Headless Vader that I’m debating picking up for an amazing deal.
I had time to briefly test it out, the build is a 3-piece Black Limba neck-through with what looks like Lithium humbuckers. It plays well, though the tone pot is a bit loose (should be an easy fit however).
Before I fully finalize everything and start setting it up, I had a few questions for those who made the jump:
Transitioning - How rough is the learning curve involved with adjusting to the extra neck width and muting technique? Any tips or specific habits you recommend to start early so I don’t feel so lost on the fretboard?
Sound - How well do you find the stock Lithium pickups for low end clarity for regular standard tunings? Do they hold up well or would most people work towards eventually swapping them out?
Practicality- For anyone gigging or travelling with a headless guitar, how’s the day-to-day usability (string changes, tuning stability, balance on a strap)?
Would love to hear your thoughts on the build, or any advice for an 8-string beginner!
