I am in South Africa and getting his books are extremely expensive. I wanted to know if I like OBAA will I like Pynchon?

For a first time reading i want to take notes and immerse myself in the story. What notes should I take ? What did you guys do? Any other things that help alot ?

Im only 300 pages into IJ and its clearly anti addiction.

Also if I abuse a substance but its not eacapism would that be better ?

I know he is reclusive and we don't know anything about him but do we have any hint of his drug use ?

I got 300 pages in but then got extremely burnt out. It's been a month or two since I read it and im wondering what is the best pace to read it. I also want to take notes to fully imerse myself in the novel
