i built a fully offline desktop media suite because I got tired of saas tools
i've been working on a desktop media processing app called Formatif for the past few months as a solo project
the original reason I started building it was because I kept getting annoyed at how many media tools now require uploading files to some website and paying monthly just to do basic stuff like conversions - compression - upscaling, So I went in the opposite direction and made it fully local/offline instead
At first it was just a few small utilities for myself, but it slowly kept growing and now it has a bunch of video - image - audio tools, and some local AI features too
still trying to figure out whether this is a niche thing or if desktop apps are starting to become attractive again because of subscriptions
