Have the JW talked about motherhood at the recent meetings?
Hi everyone, I hope you have a nice day. Please excuse any mistakes; English isn't my first language.
Okay, I guess this is more of a rant and a question. So, I'm currently working on my undergraduate thesis (which has me feeling depressed and anxious, haha), and I've gotten sick from stress.
My mother came to help me out a bit, cooking for me and things like that (we live in different countries). She's a Jehovah's Witness, but she's always believed in higher education. However, during her visit, she told me that the reason I'm getting sick is because I'm denying my "femininity" by saying I don't want children or to marry a man... My honest response was: ???? So, I'm getting sick not because I live alone, I'm depressed, and I have an eating disorder, but because I refuse to have children?
We had a terrible argument, and I yelled at her. She yelled back and said she "hated that I moved because this country has filled my head with absurd ideas, and I missed the old me." I replied that I hated the old me, and that if I had stayed in my home country, I would have eliminated myself a long time ago. We didn't get anywhere. I ended up having such a terrible panic attack that the neighbors knocked on the door. She didn't apologize or anything; she just hugged me and said we wouldn't talk about it anymore.
So... I don't know why this happened. I mean, we've had serious fights since I moved because I left the Jehovah's Witnesses and now I have my own ideas, but we were generally doing well lately. However, I'm asking this because lately she's been attending the meetings more actively and seems more committed to them. So... did something happen? Am I missing something?
