Think about it the cursed energy was split between her and maki and with the other half of the energy she could only manage to make one bullet a day, so if maki would’ve died it make 0 sense why she’d suddenly gain a huge amount of cursed energy and be a special grade level sorcrer. If maki would’ve died mai would’ve gotten a small power boost then immediately would’ve died to her dad

They still keep whatever bodies they have, so sukuna still keeps his body with 4 arms and a mouth just no cursed energy and no technique

If you become a special grade sorcerer you won’t be gojo or sukuna level but you’ll be among the most powerful in the verse (like Yuki and Yuta), you’ll have mountains of cursed energy like yuta, a random cursed technique that is on a special grade level (no limitless to screw you over) (you could get something like cursed spirit manipulation or idle transfiguration, just a random technique used by a special grade level character), domain, and rct. but you’ll have to go on every mission the higher ups send you on and will have to help during every major battle, for ex. you will be fighting the disaster curses if you go to shibuya and help with defeating sukuna in the final battle if you live.

If you pick grade 1 you simple survive every fight you every find yourself in by some strange miracle but this doesn’t mean you can’t lose limbs or get injured
