I think I need to stop feeding 20month old

I'm looking for some advice/tips please.

I normally breastfeed my 20month old during the bedtime routine (before brushing teeth but she isn't fed to sleep) and also she wakes up at around 4-5am where I bring her into my bed and she feeds back to sleep for a few more hours until around 6-7am. Recently she has been waking up 1-2 times per night, she is absolutely beside herself, nothing will calm her. I haven't been feeding her during the night for a few months now so I'm unsure why she is becoming so fixated on having milk during the night. When she realises she won't be getting it she becomes absolutely enraged and will scream sometimes until she is sick. I know she wants milk because she asks for it and points to the chair. Sometimes my husband can calm her by reading a book and eventually rocking her to sleep but last night she screamed for 2 hours. I wonder with me sometimes saying yes to milk and sometimes saying no is confusing her? I wonder if going cold turkey would be a better option. I have been thinking about stopping for a couple of months now, I've been either pregnant or breastfeeding for the last 5 years and I am feeling ready to give my body a break. I also know the hormone crash last time I stopped was really awful so I am apprehensive about that. Any kind advice welcome.
