I’ve just learned my new boss and one my my direct reports have been meeting frequently without my knowledge. This has resulted in a promotion for my direct report without any consultation or review of past performance which has been mixed. Good output but complaints from their direct reports and stakeholders on the individual.

This promotion diminished my role as it moves an entire team out from my department. Yes, I’m already looking for my next job but does this happen regularly? I’m in a relatively small company.
