Amex Platinum or Charles Schwab Amex Platinum
I’m a Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholder and I’m now considering adding the Amex Platinum as a second premium travel card.
I called Amex yesterday and was told my welcome offer for the regular Amex Platinum is 125,000 Membership Rewards points. I’ve had a Delta Amex card for a while, but I’ve barely used it, so I’m wondering if that may be why I’m not seeing the higher 175,000-point offer, which I understand is the maximum possible.
The Amex representative suggested waiting a few weeks because the offer could potentially go higher. Is that actually true? Do these offers tend to increase if you wait?
I have a large purchase coming up at the end of June, and I’d like to have a new card before then so I can put that spend toward a welcome bonus.
Separately, I also came across the Charles Schwab Amex Platinum offer. When I log into my Schwab account, I’m seeing a 150,000-point welcome offer. I also have significant assets with Charles Schwab.
Given that, do you think it makes sense to wait and see if the regular Amex Platinum offer increases, or should I just move forward with the Charles Schwab Platinum at 150,000 points? Unless the regular Amex Platinum offer goes above 150,000, I’m not sure waiting really makes sense.
I’d appreciate your thoughts.
