Amex loses money on me tomorrow
Flying from NYC to Florida tomorrow, connecting in Atlanta. Weather in NYC is supposed to be shit tomorrow. Delta offered to let me leave early in the AM to ensure getting out of NYC before the weather and thus, make my connection tomorrow night.
This creates a 15 hour layover and like 19 trips to the buffet/bar for me at the Centurion lounge tomorrow. I’m gonna wear my Thanksgiving pants. Winning.
Platinum airline fee credit clarification
First time having a platinum card and want to clarify “upgrade” and “seat assignment fee”.
My reading is that if I purchase a main cabin seat on Delta the fee to move to Comfort Plus would not be covered.
However, if I wanted to get an exit row seat or aisle/window seat, which charge an additional fee, that would be covered.
Do I have that correct?
Anybody notice how bad the “offers” have become?
Ever since Amex raised the annual membership of this card, the offers section (at least for me) has become embarrassingly awful. I used to find one or two items that would help offset the cost of the card and make it more worthwhile to have this expensive luxury travel card, but now, it seems they are intentionally making the offers section unusable and downright dog shit.
Hertz Presidents Circle status match with other rental companies!
Maybe other people knew this, but I just came across this today: other rental companies will match your Hertz loyalty program status and upgrade you to their equivalent! I use Sixt when driving in Europe and got my Sixt membership status upgraded to Platinum in about 10 minutes. I just had to provide a screenshot of my Hertz membership status. Seems a lot of rental companies do this - just search for "Sixt (or whatever company) Status Match"!
Quill (like staples) is saying it is abnormal for bill/ship address to not match? Cancelled my order
Is this unusual for USA? They cancelled my order .
Another Devaluation - Lufthansa

Just no right things happening!!
Amex Travel booking + 35% points back.
Wondering if booking directly through Amex Travel isn’t a bad idea. I have an upcoming trip to India.
Delta airfare is around $10k for family of 4.
Amex Travel is around $9.2k (platinum airfares)
Using points with Platinum business get back 35% so
effective ticket cost $5,980. Amex confirmed we earn Delta miles and MQD.
Seems no brainer.
What challenges or other issues to watch out for if booking through Amex Travel? TIA.
Recovered Stolen iPhone 17 Pro Max after Using Insurance to pay for a new one
Long story short, I recovered my iphone that was stolen back in November. It was sold to an EcoAtm and they shipped it back to me after sending them proof of ownership. I'm assuming the IMEI is blocked? Would the only option be selling for parts or is there another way? Do I have to legally notify the insurance?
Good use of the hotel credit I think.
Stayed at the Andaz by Hyatt in Savannah. $436 for two nights, got the $300 off, $100 that we spent at the bar, and delicious shrimp and grits for free. Can't wait to use it again.
Edit to add that we were upgraded to a suite as well.
Anyone Getting Credit Warning from Amex?
Seeing a litany of TikToks where Amex is pulling back available credit and showing warnings on people’s account. My card is paid off every month, my overall debt has gone down and my credit profile has gone up 40 points in the last three months. Yet I still got a warning when I put my usual balance on the card this month. Last time this happened was during covid when there was a credit crunch. Recession indicator?
Edit: This is they type of posts on Tiktok that I am seeing - https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTDhHVXnK/
Offering lounge access to strangers at the airport?
I recently got my platinum and it comes with unlimited lunge access for yourself and a guest, I saw an old man near lounge at Helsinki airport and asked him if he wants to come. Reception checked board boarding passes, took my physical card, gave me a receipt and we are in.
Is this something people with platinum card do all the times? Am I just being a weirdo?
DP: Hello Kitty Cafe Chicago Merch
To the girlies and sanrio fans out there who were wondering. Just went to HK Chicago for the afternoon tea reservation using the Resy credit (and was credited back as expected). I bought some merch afterwards and it was charged as "takeout" from the café, which counted towards resy credit as well. Just got the credit today after the charge posted.
Is the platinum worth it?
I’ve been a Gold card holder for about 9 months now and love the card. I’ve been debating getting the Platinum as well. I only take about 10 round-trip flights a year. Do y’all feel like there’s enough value in the Platinum outside of just the travel benefits to justify the annual fee?
Let's charge you $895 and then throttle your spending? (AmEx Business Platinum)
Oh. And, 20K in 3 months for the 250K sign up bonus, but we won't let you get there.
I am furious and writing this after being on hold for more than 2 hours with various AmEx Business Platinum customer service reps. At least I have been escalated to the US now . . .
Opened the card July 11
August 10: Started using card. Used exactly 1 benefit, Chat GPT. ($50 for 1 month)
August 11: Assessed $895 membership fee.
August 16: Today. I scheduled the day to organize my upcoming business travel and various purchases for the business. Did I mention, for the business?
Since then, I have been blocked from using the card.
Reasons being: Fraud
- OK, I verified my identity and authorized the purchases. No problem.
- I called and said I'm planning on making about 10-15K worth of purchases today/this week. They said, and I quote, "You have no spending limit".
- Try to make the payment again (it's for a $555 flight ON AMEX TRAVEL PORTAL) and. . .
- Next, I'm forced to make a payment 2 weeks before due date ($1704.52)
- Make the payment - thinking it will resolve, but wondering why?
Back on the phone with AmEx, after 1 hr I get routed to someone who conference calls my bank with me to verify my balance (?)
- Verify I have the funds with Wells Fargo Bank - check my balance which was over 10x the actual $1704.52 payment
Still can't make any purchases . . .
Call back:
- Now, I am told I have been flagged as high risk due to my payment history, (what payment history? I've used the card for a week and ALREADY MADE A PAYMENT FOR YOU) and credit score(sorry, is 820 a problem?) and I have NEVER missed a credit card payment in 20 years. NOT ONE.
After another 7 CS rep rigamarole and various supervisors scratching their own ass, "accidentally" get hung up on.
Now back on hold (after another hour) for a supervisor, and am told i will need a "call back".
If I was deemed such a high risk, why was I approved in the first place?
Is AmEx terrified that I may (gasp) actually . . . spend 20K in 3 months? Is that the problem?
.
What can I do here? Is this normal? (Btw - have a personal Delta Gold AmEx, charged about 6K in one day, paid it off, no problems)
ETA: I closed the card yesterday, 16 AUG. These mods in AmExPlatinum also blocked my post yesterday - so I posted on r/Amex and cross posted elsewhere. Surprised to wake up to this ….
The r/AmEx post of same title had live updates and and answers many questions. 😊 **Also has a screenshot of the mods removing this post (which I don’t have the ability to post images here … )**🫠

Downgrade to green?
After 20+ years with the Amex Platinum, I have decided it’s no longer from me. I don’t really want to get into a debate over why.
The issue I’m having now is deciding on which course to take:
Option 1: transfer out remaining membership rewards points to BA with a 30% bonus, close the card but lose 20+ years of credit history on my credit report. I have an 800+ FICO so I’m not sure how much it will really impact me.
Option 2: downgrade to a green card and pay $150 a year until the end of time for nothing other than keeping the credit history since I am not planning on using it. I’m being told by Amex that the green card is the cheapest card I can downgrade to. I would prefer a free card, but it is not given to me as an option. Apparently only the green card or gold card are available for a downgrade.
Has anybody gone through this and can share what they decided and why? I’m having a hard time making a decision.
4 years ago I used a Facebook group to get referral link for 175k for my self and 200k for my wife as the sign up bonus. Does that still exist today or do I have to sign up and whatever is offered is what I get?
reddit.comWhy is Peacock showing up as Peacock Grill?
I’m concerned and confused. I heard there was something funky with peacock and apple bundles but I thought that was still getting credited? It did last month. This month’s came up as Peacock Grill which I was confused about as for a second I thought it was a restaurant that I didn’t go to. Luckily no. Details state it’s still peacock the entertainment app. But no credit since the post date. So guessing it’s a delay in credits? Or is this how they now weed out packages?
Car Rental Benefit Question
This is my first car rental since receiving my Platinum card. To qualify for the rental insurance coverage, do I need to do anything other than pay with my platinum card? Thanks!
Lotte NYC Palace Review
Hello all! Just a review of the Lotte NYC Palace (not the Towers). The Palace is in THC, the Towers are FHR.
Benefits Received:
- Room upgrade (Cathedral view room to higher floor same view)
- $100 daily breakfast credit (breakfast is very very expensive, bacon, eggs, and toast were $118)
- $100 hotel credit, enough to get a manicure / pedicure at the spa
- Free wifi (normally $15/day)
- Late checkout (although not guaranteed)
The room was large, fantastic view, solid bathroom with a big tub and single sink. Hotel feels a little worn down, but the location is great. Service was very attentive. The location is honestly the best part of the hotel, it is seriously close to everything. Would likely stay again, great value at this price point.
