Delta medallion/delta credit card members - how are you using the Amex Plat $200 airline credit?

Locked to Delta for the credit. I don't need the credit for baggage fees as my bags are free and I never check anyway.

Just struggling to figure out how to best utilize my $200 credit since the ticket loophole is gone.

Is the $50 lounge fee for a companion reimbursed? What other things are you using your $200 on?

Delta Sky Club When Connecting to a non-DL flight on a separate ticket?

The way Delta's T&Cs read, it seems like I *should* be able to enter the Sky Club with plat on a layover between a DL flight and a non-DL (BA) flight on a separate ticket, but I'm seeing some anecdotes of people being denied entry. Does anybody have recent experience either way?

$550 statement credit offer for HushAI Privacy Service on Platinum

Just activated and used this Amex offer (use $550 get $550 back) for an AI service that finds and wipes your personal data off the web. $550 is the cost of 1 month of the service so it’s basically a 30 day free trial. Honestly not sure if this service is any good but for $550 a month I’d imagine it’s pretty premium. Thought I’d let people know while this lasts.

FHR Prepaid and no longer have the Platinum business Card?

So I am contemplating downgrading my Amex Business Platinum to a Gold. I’m just not getting the value in the credits. I have 2 prepaid FHR nights booked for October though. Will not having the Platinum Card at check in effect the FHR benefits in any way?

Hotel refund after the deadline

Curious if anyone has had success in getting a refund for a hotel booked through Amex after the deadline to cancel.

Long story short, I didn’t realize the hotel I booked didn’t qualify for the $300 credit. Thought all the hotels on amextravel counted, this was my first time booking through there. I messaged the agent to ask and they clarified the qualifications. Well the deadline to get a refund was just 3 hours prior on that same day. The agent said they need to reach out to the hotel as it is up to them now. Really hoping they are nice about it.

Watch any Amex Travel flight bookings

I booked 2 tickets for Delta One via Amex Travel’s International Airline Program a couple months ago after canceling other flights due to the Iran war. Checked in online and everything seemed normal
but could not go through TSA. Agent asked for two IDs and then sent me back to the Delta counter. Turns out - Amex Travel kindly put my partners birthdate and details for the secure flight data for both tickets. Delta folks at the airport couldn’t sort it - but luckily a support agent from Delta was able to assist.

Even if they are less expensive than booking direct, I probably won’t ever use Amex Travel again. Buyer beware.

Sign up bonus

Today I finally applied for Amex platinum and got approved! I had a 125,000 point bonus on my app (I’ve had Amex blue for a couple years). However, when I got home from work, I checked the mail and I literally had an offer for 175,000 points…

I had an official code and everything for the sign up bonus. I called customer service and they filed an executive review for my situation. Said it will take a few days to resolve.

Because I called just 6 hours after getting approved, do you think I’ll get awarded the extra 50,000 points? (as long as I spend $12,000 in 6 months of course)

If I have $200 tied to American Airlines for the benefit, will it cover airport lounges?

I was gonna stay at the flagship lounge in Chicago for American Airlines tomorrow. Will that count against the $200 benefit?

Confused about FHR hotel benefit when booking 2 rooms

I tried asking Amex, but couldn't get a clear answer so not sure if anybody can confirm.

If I book 2 FHR rooms with my platinum, do both rooms get the offered benefits (eg free breakfast for two, $100 experience credit etc.)? When I spoke to Amex they said that both rooms would get the breakfast but only $100 experience credit for both rooms. If that's the case, 2 separate bookings?

Amex plat (175k) or biz gold (100k)

I currently have Amex plat biz and wife has personal Amex plat.
Tried gold biz for both. 100k is best we get.
Amex personal I got a 175k.

Which one would y’all suggest?

(We dont necessarily “need” the hotel credit. As in we appreciate a good stay but a luxury hotel isn’t what we would choose if not for plat credits)

Spend $8,000+, earn 4,000 Membership Rewards® points, up to 3 times offer

Amex sent me this offer:

“Spend $8,000+, earn 4,000 Membership Rewards® points, up to 3 times.”

I’m about to spend around $50k this month on a home project, so I asked Amex support if one large purchase would trigger all 12,000 points. The chat rep told me no — it would need to be split into separate $8k+ transactions.

Not sure if that’s actually true or if they were just giving a lazy answer. Either way, it got me thinking: if I’m putting this much spend on cards, what other SUBs or cards should I be considering right now?

Walmart+

Rookie here… made a Walmart+ account. First month is $1 then $12.95/month after that. Not sure if I’ll use this much, but it’s practically free with the card. Anyways, went into the Amex app to link my card and it prompted me to “sign up”. Logged into the Walmart+ portal with my account credentials and it seems like it made a whole new account. Just wondering if I am overthinking it. I would like to avoid the pain that is Walmart customer service but I can call them if needed. Currently have a $1 charge on my Amex along with a $12.95 charge so that’s why I am skeptical.

Best hotel upgrade?

What is the best hotel room upgrade you have gotten when booking with the hotel collection or fine hotels? So far I have noticed a 50/50 shot of an upgrade.

Annual fee hits in July, can I use the new cycle of Fhr credit before I cancel this card?

I have had this Amex platinum since 2020 but I plan to close this card or potentially downgrade it to keep my Mr points when my annual fee hits in 7/3. Since the new cycle of FHR credit will refresh in July, and I have a trip planned in Japan/Korea for July, can I book a FHR stay on 7/1 to get the 300 Fhr hotel credit, then cancel my card 8/1? Will they claw back the 300$ credit?

Maximising Platinum Digital Entertainment Credit along with BCE/BCP Hulu Credit

Hey fellow Amex holders, looking for ways to get the most value from the platinum digital entertainment credit along with the Disney/hulu credit for BCP/BCE. Curious on hearing tips from people to learn more on how they maximise the value when holding both cards.

For me, I’m mainly looking to get Hulu, Disney, HBO & YouTube Premium. I know Walmart+ gets Peacock, so not worth wasting the credit on that.

Experience on Switching Airlines for Airline Credit

Hey everyone, I’ve wanted to add a data point to an experience I had with an Amex rep last week. This past year, I had my Airline Incidental Credit set on Spirit, but ever since they went under, I was a bit concerned about maximising the credit. I called the rep last week, explained my predicament and they successfully change it to American, even though I had already redeemed for Spirit this year.

Hope this helps someone looking in a similar situation.

Schwab worth it in this situation?

Hey guys. Hoping I could get some advice on whether it’s worth it to sign up for Schwab Amex in a specific situation my financial planner moved to Schwab and I’m eligible for this card.

Currently have the vanilla plat for myself, which I use to run my business. I have a remodel coming up and will have expenses and easily charge $12k in six months. Considering signing my wife up to get the SUB and getting the points and then downgrading to another Amex card that doesn’t have an annual fee before the next yearly fee hits.

Does that pencil out? 150k points is more valuable for travel than $900?

Sorry if it’s a newbie question.

Maximizing FHR/THC hotel stay using the hotel credit

So I’ve been planning a trip to New York City this coming August.

Booked 1 night for 21 August back in December. $375 cost, received $300 statement credit. $75 out of pocket

Booked 1 night for 22 August back in January. $400 cost, received $300 statement credit. $100 out of pocket

The next hotel credit will be available in July. So I plan on booking 23 August to take advantage of the next $300 credit.

Now here is where I’m running into some questions. I’m staying at a Hilton hotel and I’m approximately 50K Hilton points short of booking the 24 August using points. There’s a promotion right now that 1K Amex points = 2.4K Hilton points. That would only be 21K Amex points to get one more night. It might not be the best use of points but it would allow me to stay one more night to maximize my trip length and not spending much out of pocket.

If I do that, how will the hotel handle it? The first 3 nights will have the FHR benefits but the last night won’t? Seems like it would make it very complicated for the FHR benefits. Has anyone ever done this and what was the result?
