I just paid for a preferred seat and an economy+ seat on United for a domestic flight later this month (no cabin upgrade). The charge came through as "United Ticketing", which hasn't tripped the airline credit before -- I just did it, so I'll give it a week, but I am not very hopeful that it'll credit me. It stinks, too, because I wouldn't have spent the money if I had known it wouldn't credit (but, the silver lining, no pun intended, is that he extra PQP may be enough to qualify me for silver status with UA! I am a leisure traveler, so it would be my first airline status.)

I am currently at the Kromo (Curio Collection, Hilton) in Bangkok using THC for my first time and it's incredible! I was upgraded to a corner room junior suite, and since it is a Hilton, the gold status that this card gives you, got me free breakfast everyday anyway.

I am only here for two nights and am having fun trying to spend $100 credit on cocktails and dinner.

They keep surprising me with welcome amenities, this morning they showed up to my room with caramelized coconut almonds.

In a couple weeks I have another THC stay at Kwetu Curio Collection (Hilton again) in Nairobi. Can't wait for another stay like this!

I am also staying at the Kempinski in nairobi, which is not on the program, so even though it's a five-star luxury hotel, the service probably not quite be the same.

If you haven't used this benefit yet, do it!

My flight from HAN-SAU was just changed from 7/4 to 7/6, which will not work because I leave SAI on 7/7.

How much of a headache will d along with them about this be??

Just gotta say, I wish I did more research and knew to avoid D1 of Saigon... Wow, this place is a s*** hole and I feel like I'm living in a frat house... Never again. It was only 2 days on a 7 week trip, so admittedly my research was very shallow.

2 days here was way too much and I spent one on a tour (Cu Chi tunnels) and one in D3 (much better experience than D1).

Catching a flight to Da Nang tomorrow and it couldn't come soon enough... Got a decent place there on the beach, looking forward to finally being able to relax vs motorbikes every 30 seconds asking me where I'm going/Do I need a ride, and prostitutes trying to grab my arm when I am walking on the street.

It reminds me of a much seedier, dirtier version of Parque Lleras in Medellín (Colombia), which I tend to avoid.

Man, D1 is a shit hole unless you are 22 and want to party at seedy bars.

Well, this is a first in my traveling experience. My incoming flight hit a bird and had to cancel hours before deparure.

At least I got upgraded from flying Air India to Emirates

Hey, my AI flight hit a bird and was cancelled for today, so now I get too fly on the a380 with Emirates tonight (business class). It will be my first experience with Emirates, anything I should be aware of to make my experience better?

I'll then have a layover at DXB, but will be transferring to Air India, so now DXB Emirates lounge access.

I got a hotel New York City for the night, with a long haul flight leaving at noon JFK-DEL-SGN.

I woke up to text this morning saying that my flight has been canceled, and I am now put on a flight that leaves 11:00 p.m. with Emirates. The plane is an upgrade, but I have nowhere to go during that 11 hour additional window.

I'm a bit lost on this one.

So, I had a flight JFK-DEL-SGN booked today through Air Canada with Air India. It was supposed to leave at noon.

​

I am in a NYC hotel and was getting up early to get ready and go. I then receive a text TODAY that my itinerary has changed... Instead of noon, I am now flying out at 11 pm. Also, instead of the Air India A350 biz class, I'm now on the Emirates a380 business class (ok, that's a pretty sweet aircraft change, except it's a night flight).

My flight is now JFK-DVB-DEL-SGN

I no longer have a 24 hr layover at DEL, either. So much stuff I had planned for is now no more (I had a tour set up at DEL).

How can they do this literally the morning of my flight???

Should I still go to the airport at 9:00 a.m. like I was planning and had a ride scheduled for, to talk to them? Or, what should I do? I'm clueless, lol

I think that I left my glasses in the Amtrak station when getting on the 2:05 train to NYC today, on a bench near gate 3. Does anyone know if there is a lost and found? I will be overseas until mid-August.

I have tried for an evisa multiple times and keep getting rejected (with the comment that I have to obtain a paper visa... For a 24-hr layover with a US passport... Really, India? My tour guide said he has never seen anything like this before).

Any idea if I'll be able to access the new Maharaja Lounge and/or Encalm Prive throughout the duration? I'd love to get some exercise in at Encalm Prive and maybe nap in the Maharaja Lounge Serenity Room, but am afraid I won't be allowed in that early and will have to sit in the terminal

This is just a vent and review about the Horrace Mann insurance company here locally. It is a bear of a company to deal with, whether it's an auto insurance claim or their retirement plans - their Roth IRAs are a joke and an annuity, even if they tell you that they are not when directly asked... Having an annuity, and their fees, will cost you thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands, over the life of the IRA vs. a fidelity Roth IRA (with much better ETF availability too) if you are young... But of course they will not mention that.

I have spent MONTHS trying to switch my Roth IRA from them to Fidelity and it is STILL not done. I am receiving snail mail letters from them requesting additional documents... Not emails, not phone calls, but letters likes it's 1985 and it's only drawing out the process.

Teachers, if these salesmen come to your school, don't just walk, but RUN away from ANYTHING that they have to offer. They are certainly not there in your best interest.

I'm pulling everything away from this company and ending my relationship. If they come to a school that I'm at and do their speal... Help me God to bite my tongue

Absolute scumball of a company. Brett Farance is a nice guy, but dealing with the actual company has been a nightmare of an experience and extremely stressful.

Once again, RUN away from this company. No amount of chocolate fountains in the staff room or free cake giveaways are worth dealing with this company when it matters.

They are an absolute nightmare, and I have dealt with quite a few insurance companies before. "Serving teachers" my ass. I have been faithfully paying them for insurance for 8 years and held a Roth with them -- don't do it! My insurance rates kept going up, even with no claims and my car getting older every year. Never again.

Is the JW really worth 13,000-26,000 KSH more per night than the Kempinski??

The Kempinski has always come across, to me, as THE luxury hotel to stay at in Nairobi - is the JW really better? I ate at the bar/restaurant that's high up in the JW once before. I have not stayed at either yet, but am considering.

Thoughts?

I am flying business class on Air India (AI 102) in about a week. The latest info I have seen indicates that AI will just be giving me a food voucher since their lounge is closed.

I will be going to the Centurion Lounge instead, so I have no use for a $30 cert. Is it possible to add these funds to my Starbucks or Dunkin app, so that I can use them later?

Otherwise I have no need for this? Maybe I'll just go to a restaurant and give it to a solo traveler there? Any tips??

What could I do if I have an LLB (bachelors of law) without going on to Kenya School of Law?

Are there any LLB-preferred jobs (like JD-preferred jobs in the US) that pay a little more due to the education (say, 50k/month)?
