Is 45 days enough for Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos?

I have a trip planned for the end of this year: China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand.

I fly to China first and that leg is already booked, with the plan to get the train/coach into Hanoi on 18th October. I am then meeting family in Chiang Mai on 1st December. That leaves 45 days in the middle to get around Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. I will explore the rest of Thailand after seeing family.

Will 45 days be enough to see all three countries, or would I be better breaking this up. E.g. doing Vietnam and Laos then flying back over to do Cambodia at the end? I am worried that I already have quite a long list of things I'd like to do in each country and I don't want to feel rushed with only having 2 weeks per country. For example, I've heard of people spending a month in just Vietnam.

I have saved a lot of money and am quitting my job to travel so I am somewhat flexible. I was planning to spend a total of 3-4 months travelling.

I need recommendations - our Itinerary has 2 extra days

Me and my family have 7 full days for our trip - we were supposed to have 5 days only but the budget flights are on a different return flight date hence we have 2 extra days.

I’ve maxed out my ideas - included the touristy places, and the not-so-common activities. We are also on a budget and we don’t want to go to My Son Sanctuary.

Our hotels are booked

2 and a half days at Hoi an
And 4 and a half days at Da Nang (one of the 4 days will be dedicated fully to Ba Na Hills)

So I’d like to seek recommendations any places that are not so common but worth going to, worth doing, family friendly and affordable.

Issue with e Visa - keep getting ”Please review all your entered information to ensure accuracy."

So i keep getting this automater message even though everything is filled in correctly. Can anyone help? My country has an embassy there so I don’t understand the issue.

Vietnam trip (4 girls trip)

Hiii everyone,

I am planning a trip to Vietnam in October mid to end of the month
I am travelling from india
My plan is go to hanoi, cover sapa then go to ha long bay then end the trip with ho chi min city
The whole trip is for 14 days
We dont mind doing touristy things and want to do shopping cafe hopping going to see popular places

Now few questions i have in mind

  1. is it safe in general for all women to travel( or do we have to be extra careful??)

  2. do i go booking hotels from agoda ? Or book Airbnbs

  3. do we select the day cruise in ha long bay or overnight cruise ( this is a bit more expensive)

  4. whats up with the new health declaration thing and what airlines do i go with to travel internally in Vietnam ( ha long bay / hanoi to ho chi min city)

  5. do i always carry cash?? Or does card (forex) and qr payment apps work??

6)any other good advice that you have to give outtt would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!!

Travelling to Vietnam for 11D in NOV - Struggling with the itinerary

Hi everyone,

Im planning on travelling in November with mum, brother and myself (56/25/26) to Vietnam. Over the sub, ive checked different posts with different itineraries and tbh im a bit lost.

We've been lucky enough to travel to Asia already but not yet to Vietnam.

Looking for some mix between city and beach destination if possible.

Knowing we have an 11 day itinerary, what would a real and great itinerary look like for you?

I would like to avoid having to travel too much once we get to Vietnam.

Budget wise we are looking at 1500-2000EUR/pax.

Thanks!

11 days in vietnam itinerary

planning a trip with my friend to vietnam in january of 2027 and we have 11 days. going to fly into hanoi and fly out of HCMC. we know we only want one full day in hanoi and 3 full days in HCMC. i think we should do 3 days ha giang loop, but my friend wanted to go to sapa for two days. i have seen that sapa may not be worth it. heard its very touristy now. we also want to spend 3-4 days in hoi an/da nang. we are big into shopping and food and wanted to hit north, central, and south to try all of the different food. is this too much to pack into one trip? should we skip sapa and do ha giang loop? were thinking we dont have time for ha long bay or ninh binh, but would you skip hoi an/da nang to do more in the north? any suggestions would be super helpful!

eSim being disabled after 7 days

Hi, I arrived here exactly 8 days ago and I extended the eSim from the immigration email.

I bought the 30 day package and it disabled itself on the 8th day.

I tried calling the support line and it suggested I call another line because I'm an english speaker. This line fails to connect. (possibly because this line is disconnected - understandable but a bit weird...)

Anyone encounter this situation? I'm hoping to be able to recover this number via helpdesk or online help. Should I cut my losses and get another eSim?

edit:
Thanks team! I've decided to just get another SIM after talking to the local shop. It's much less hassle and it's not that expensive. Hope whoever reads this in the future has a reference point.

The company is MobiPhone.vn/travel - I bought the 30 day pack - I assume their automatic processes disabled the eSim after 7 days (as automated) because it was activated at the airport and didn't get updated when I bought the pack to extend to 30 days.

I am planning to visit Hanoi for 5 days in mid July. I am thinking of staying in for 2 nights and then 2 nights Mai chau or Ninh Binh. I would like to also visit Ba Vi National park. Would this be a good & feasible itinerary for July with the rains? If not any alternative suggestions?

Mr Viet is the best shop in Hoi An

Ok I exaggerate. I found Hoi An to be a waste of time because it was just endless tourists and salespeople endlessly soliciting me. Most of the shops were selling average fare. We enjoyed the roll ice cream there and the banana pancake but the restaurant there also was a tourist trap. But I am glad I found the Mr Viet shop in Hoi An and bought coffee there as it was much cheaper than buying the same coffees in supermarkets across Vietnam and of course much cheaper than the airport.

Tipping culture in Vietnam

Hi all

I'll be travelling with my partner through Vietnam next month. I don't come from a country with a tipping culture but have been told by those who travel to Vietnam frequently to tip. I understand tipping in restaurants but should I also be tipping the nail ladies, hotel cleaning staff, grab drivers etc? and if so, how much and how often do I tip? Do I need to leave a tip every morning for cleaning staff?

Thanks

I’m flying one way to Australia as a British passenger and concerned the airline won’t let me fly without a return ticket, anyone had this experience?

Australian immigration allows it but some airlines may not let you fly on a one way ticket. Has anyone else done this before? I know you cannot enter Vietnam with a one way ticket but not sure how it is to leave? Specifically with Vietjet

"Incorrect" Place of Birth entered, is it an issue?

Hi, so for the place of birth, I put in "India" instead of "City, State" mentioned in the passport. Technically, this is still correct, but will it be an issue?

It's the 5th today. Flight is on the 11th evening. Is all good?

Laos to Vietnam bus

Hey guys, has anyone here ever taken the bus from Laos to Vietnam or vice versa? I'm talking about the sleeper bus that takes about 24 hours. I'd love to hear about your experience.

Question for the Vietnamese

It's no secret that Vietnam attracts a huge number of tourists. What impressions do tourists leave from different countries, such as North America, Europe, Russia, and other Asian countries like China, Korea, and Japan? I wonder if there's any difference between us, or are we all just tourists to you?

I'm only 3 days post-op, but I already feel like I'm getting my confidence back! Viet Nam, HCMC

I wanted to keep a record of the journey, so I asked the staff to take before-and-after photos. Hopefully, I'll be posting a much better comparison next year.
