Chilis and pipe hydroponics?

Chilis and pipe hydroponics?

So I know the norm when it comes to chili hydroponics is DWC/Kratky, but I am really entertaining the idea of a pipe system like this to maximize space indoors and to have a single water source I can keep on top of.

From what I have read the only downside to having pipe hydroponics for chilis and tommatos is that they develop large root balls which can stretch through out the pipes and cause a flow blockage, but I am wondering if it's possible to have something like a fine mesh around each cup cell to stop the roots expanding out into the pipes while allowing water in? Would that work? My understanding with confining roots is that it will stunt plant size, but I am fine with that as long as I can sustain loads of small chili plants with one system.

Most efficient way to screen offspring?

I am currently growing some mystery meat Chinese and I am planning on starting some Purple Flash seeds soon, meaning I will potentially have more than one chili plant to care for in the future. My interest has been peaked though around the idea of breeding chili pepper plants and I am wondering what is the most efficient way to work through plant generations?

I am based in the UK so outdoor temps are very unreliable, but my current chili plant has done very well indoors with a proper growlight. That being said, indoor space is limited, and I am also aware that you need seed dozens of plants at a time to screen and select every generation of new cross. Is there a way of doing that quickly while plants are small and then once screened I can get rid of the candiates to clear up space?
