I made an open-source music player for Linux (Python, PySide6, GPLv3)

Hi everyone,

I've been working on a music player called **0x0000_waveform_signal_out**. It's built with Python, PySide6, and sounddevice/PortAudio for audio playback.

Features:

- Waveform display

- Repeat/loop playback

- Playlist support

It's GPLv3-or-later licensed and available as an AppImage.

GitHub: https://github.com/BDigitalLabs/0x0000_waveform_signal_out

**Disclosure:** I used AI (Claude) to help with packaging the AppImage and debugging some library issues (PortAudio, Qt plugins). The code and design decisions are mine, but I got AI help for some of the harder technical parts and for writing this post, since my English is still B1/B2 level.

Would love any feedback, especially if something breaks on your distro!

Reenkarnasyon gerçek olsaydı hangi Vocaloid, UTAU vb. (ve diğer Vocal Synth karakterleri) olarak doğmak isterdiniz?

Ben Hatsune Miku olarak doğmak isterdim.

Feedback Needed: Making buttons look integrated on a pure black background (in a desktop app)

Hi all,

I'm designing a control panel for a desktop application and I'm using a pure black (#000000) background. You can see my current attempt in the image attached.

The issue: The button containers (the dark gray boxes around the cyan play icon and the white square) feel "off" and don't blend well with the true black background.

I'm not sure how to style the backgrounds of these buttons effectively. Should they be seamless (just the icon with a border)? Subtle grays with a different effect?

Any suggestions or examples of best practices for styling buttons on a true black panel would be greatly appreciated!

I'm curious about the current landscape of low-level programming. Which language do you find yourself using the most these days (C, C++, Rust, Zig, or maybe even Assembly)?

Also, what is your honest take on the other languages in this space? For example, if you're a C fan, what keeps you away from Rust? Or if you've moved to Zig, what made you leave C++ behind? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on performance, safety, and Developer Experience.
