Help! How do I get my master closet to not smell like cat pee?
I just bought a house and the previous owners had three cats. Upon opening the master closet door, I was almost knocked back by how pungent the cat pee smell was in there.
It had built in cabinets that apparently had (soaked) carpet underneath them. I’m in the process of gutting them and getting rid of the carpet, but it seems like everything I do to eliminate the cat pee smell isn’t working.
I’ve taken out the carpet, sprayed enzyme cleaner, attempted scraping everything off the subfloor, sprayed MORE enzyme cleaner, aaand put down some paint primer that says it seals odors. It STILL reeks of pee. I’m at my wit’s end here.
I don’t have any experience as a home owner, so I feel like I’m out of my element. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to tackle my issue? I’m also broke as hell, so if I can DIY a pee-proof home by myself, that would be LOVELY.
