Ontario released a centralized self-exclusion
Ontario, Canada released its new centralized self-exclusion which self excludes the registrant from all online gambling websites.
I (29M) battled online gambling addiction for the past 8 months, I had plenty of wins but also plenty of losses and would like to think I made it out with just a scratch. My parents dealt with gambling addiction and it was something I always told myself I’d steer clear of, I thought I had a handle on it but the way it made me feel I could tell I didn’t. I kept finding new websites and different places to gamble. I would sub consciously leave a website on a 1 month exclusion after wins and would put that money right back in when the self exclusion ended. I longed for a tool like this where I wouldn’t leave myself options. I am now self excluded for 5 years and for the first time I feel like there’s a light at the end of the tunnel I dug myself into.
If your state or province has this tool, I recommend it fully. I still have access to physical casinos but never struggled to leave when I was out of spendable money. Online gambling is wreaking havoc on my generation so I thank Ontario for providing this tool to those struggling with this awful addiction.
