We booked a 4 night stay with 2 rooms at Kimpton Grand Roatan from Aug 9-13. We just booked this yesterday. Also yesterday, we confirmed there would be flights available from Houston prior to booking. We have standby privileges on United and there were 2 flights available on Aug 9 (sunday) and 1 on Aug 13 (Thurs). Today, I checked the flights and there are NONE to and from Houston. Our hotel has a non-refundable 1 night stay if we cancel today (almost $800) We had no idea this would be an issue and that flights could just disappear for an entire week. Is this real? I don't see a daily flight on the days we need to/from Roatan using United.

Edit; update. We didn't get a seat on the Fort Lauderdale flight, so I will have to save these recommendations for another time. Had to pivot and fortunately got a seat on a Miami flight so we still get our spontaneous beach day.

My husband and I are newly reaping the benefits of free flights using our son's employee benefits (Pilot). We are dipping our toe in with a spontaneous day trip tomorrow where we will be there from about 11am til 4pm. We decided this literally 1 hour ago so we are truly flying by the seat of our pants and don't have the time to do our (my) normal research.

The plan was just to Uber to a beach, but :

1. which one? Will need a bathroom to change in and umbrella/chairs to rent. 1st thought is Las Olas beach, but another review said it smelled like pee? 😬 Could have been a one off.

2. would be equally as interested in going to a state park with a nice beach that had kayak rentals where we could see something cool...not be swarmed by bugs and not just kayaking out into the ocean.

3. if there is a festival/market happening on Sunday that is a can't miss, we are open to doing that and skipping beach and water altogether.

4. we could also rent a car if there is something that is a must for that would be made easier by having a car.
