I went to a rave

While I was dancing on the floor, I started getting anxious because I wasn’t sure if I should make eye contact with people who were dancing facing away from me.
At raves, people seem to make eye contact a lot, and I don’t really understand why. What are they trying to communicate when they look at me? And how am I supposed to respond?
