Got it to start but now this

Car was running well and then died at a light.

2012 Jetta 2.0l

There are no codes.

Thinking it was an issue with EGR again we disconnected the HP EGR pipe and it would start. Reconnected and disconnected the low pressure EGR pipe, it is now starting but large smoke at beginning. The LP pipe is able to be blown through so we believe it may be something else.

Is there a way to test the diesel in the system? Usually get QT or RaceTrack but had to fill up at Walmart.

Also, will disconnecting the battery for 10 min screw with settings for actuator tune?

All, of this was not happening prior to timing belt skipping a tooth.

Talked to another mechanic, he recommended battery reset for ECM and possible vvt replacement. No codes is odd, we had wires on other side broken and they were not showing codes.

Advice on what might be the cause

Car was running well finally and then just died at a stop light.

We recently replaced quite a few components, other posts in profile. Fuel pumps are good, EGR replaced due to other being stuck open.

From my mechanic.

The flap on the exhaust is that’s good

Discontinued the def system from the turbo as you can see lots smoke coming out. Like it’s dumping to much fuel and won’t start

But if I disconnect the front pipe from the egr it starts.

Something maybe blocking the exhaust

Don’t know if it’s the turbo or where the pipe from the egr connoto on the back of the engine????

Any ideas?

Oh and no codes...

Original post linked.

What has changed/same since last post:

- Hard start every morning

- P0299 is triggered when hard acceleration (getting on highway and flooring at light), also went away after I turned off and turned back on.

- Have not had p13d6 codes come back.

What we checked since last post:

- Actuator and N75 checked with VCDS.

- Smoke test, no leaks seen.

- Metal rod connecting to actuator is not stuck and goes up and down freely.

Ideas?
