Has anyone with Hashimoto’s and hypermobility been diagnosed with fibromyalgia?

Hi everyone, I’m in my early 20s and honestly just trying to figure out whether I should be pushing for further investigation into my symptoms or whether this really does sound like fibromyalgia.

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s a few years ago after abnormal thyroid antibodies and thyroid function tests. When this first started my TSH was as low as 1.4, but over the past 5 years it’s gradually increased and I’m now at 3.2, after being 3.6 around 6 months ago. Because it’s technically still “within range,” I’ve never been started on thyroid medication. My antibodies are still extremely elevated though, with my most recent Anti TPO being 261 and Anti TG being 2745.

I also have PCOS and have gained around 10kg in the past year despite no major lifestyle changes. I’m already gluten free, basically sugar free, and generally eat very cleanly. Recent bloodwork also didn’t show any vitamin or mineral deficiencies. My vitamin D, B12, iron, ferritin, magnesium, etc. are all normal.

Over the past few months I’ve become progressively more exhausted to the point where even basic daily tasks feel difficult. I sleep 10+ hours and still wake up tired. Over the past couple of weeks especially, I’ve developed constant joint and body pain that’s become genuinely debilitating at times.

I recently saw a rheumatologist who diagnosed me with HSD. I have an 8/9 Beighton score, so I definitely agree with the hypermobility diagnosis. They ruled out EDS, although part of me still wonders about it. The rheumatologist thinks the HSD is developing into fibromyalgia and recommended CBT, physio, and medication involving mood stabilisation/prescription pain management.

Part of what’s confusing me is that I don’t know how much of this could realistically be explained by Hashimoto’s alone, especially the fatigue, versus whether the Hashimoto’s and HSD/fibromyalgia are working in tandem, or whether this could be indicative of something else entirely.

I think what I’m struggling with is that I keep reading stories from people who were diagnosed with fibromyalgia when doctors didn’t yet have another explanation, and I’m not sure whether I should fully accept the diagnosis yet, especially because some of the medications being suggested are pretty strong and feel like something that needs serious consideration before starting.

I guess I’m mainly wondering if anyone here has had a similar combination of Hashimoto’s, PCOS, hypermobility, fatigue, and widespread pain, whether it actually turned out to be fibromyalgia, and whether anyone has managed to find a doctor who looked at the full picture instead of treating everything separately as endocrine/rheumatology/gynaecology.

If anyone also has any helpful literature, studies, or research papers around Hashimoto’s, hypermobility, fibromyalgia, autoimmune overlap, chronic fatigue, etc. I’d really appreciate that as well because I’ve been trying to understand this better myself.

I’m not trying to deny the possibility of fibromyalgia at all, I just don’t want to stop investigating if there’s something being missed.

Would really appreciate any advice or experiences.
