Moved to Atl a Year Ago And Not Even a Year Later Thinking About Moving Back
Hey.
It's funny how life works.
From SoCal originally, moved to Oregon eight years ago for three things:
Finishing education
Wanted to work for Nike
To "study" track and field (former track and field athlete and now coach).
I ended up doing two of the three, never worked for Nike but became a teacher. Did two years in Oregon as a PE teacher and track coach.
I love coaching track and field, love track and field, there's nothing better in the spring time than coaching track and field, and Oregon is the best place to do it.
My gripe is that I moved from the Northwest and Oregon - because, I lived in Portland because it's the biggest Metropolitan area the State offers but I do not like Portland.
-Too small
-Don't like weather
-Not a lot of things to do in the city ie feels like big town as opposed to actual city
-Not a lot of vibrant people/energy and lack of diversity
Quit my job without another lined up and moved as far as one could go - Atlanta.
It crossed off a lot in the beginning. Big vibrant city with lots of people and a lot to do. A lot of the things that I do are people that look like me and I really enjoy that.
But the biggest turnoffs for me for the city (asides from not acquiring a teaching job) -
-Traffic. Sh*t tons of traffic. Waiting in line for hour traffic. Crazy traffic.
-Crazy drivers. I got into two car accidents already here (one was my fault the other somebody rear ended me).
- Gun violence. You hear almost every single day about a shooting here. Its insane.
My biggest thing is that I cannot do these odd jobs anymore, I just want to teach and coach track. And also the high school track here and just track in general here is just not the same as Oregon.
I recently visited Oregon during a really busy week with sports events - it was great (college baseball game, WNBA game, my old School's track event).
Last part -
I've been searching for a job here and not one single interview.
Applied to jobs in Oregon and already have one interview this week.
Thanks for lasting this long, but r/SameGrassButGreener
what do you think?
If I get this job, do I accept it, and accept life in dreary, boring Oregon?
So continue to grind it out/suffer in Atl?
Thanks that's my Tedtalk.
