So sick of the victim mentality
I’m a new SM and my team is for the most part… abysmal.
They went without a manager for a few months and let the entire store just fall apart. Just checked off every task on Athena without actually doing it, clearly never swept or dusted a single time they were without a manager. I’ve found dozens of expired products, things that were meant to be pulled months ago, and leaking bottles shoved in the back of shelves. It’s horrendous.
I would give them a pass for not having a manager, but they’re all very well trained and know exactly what the expectations are. Most of them have been here for years.
The worst part though, is the insane victim mentality that so much of my staff has. Every person swears that they do the most and that they’ve been carrying this team without a manager. I had one girl CRY because I told her she had to do actual work and couldn’t just pick away at shipment all day.
Yesterday one employee got into an argument with me for asking her to greet a customer in the aisle. I like actually can’t deal with how incompetent this store is. If I have to hear this 20 year old girl tell me one more time how mature she is and how she carried the store on her shoulders while consistently hitting none of her numbers, not completing any assigned tasks, or not cleaning the store once in the 6 months they went without a manager, I’m gonna lose it.
Like truly, god forbid I ask them to do a lick of work without them looking at me like I asked them to kill someone.
And the availability in my store is insane. They have 4 people off Sundays and 3 off Saturdays. I already have an incredibly limited staff, how am I supposed to work around that? And when I tell them I need them to open up their availability or I’ll have to hire a new person, they all freak out. Like, of course you aren’t getting hours. You have no availability and you call out constantly, what do you expect?
Oh, that’s another issue. CONSTANT call outs. Followed by constant complaints about not getting enough hours lol
Honestly? I mostly see people complain about that higher ups here, but my DM is wonderful and really trying to set me up for success. Unfortunately my staff is a bunch of incompetent 20 year olds who think having to do any amount of actual work is a punishment. I do not think I will last long unless I can fire this whole team and start fresh lol
