A federal complaint filed in March 2026 includes some deeply disturbing allegations about a man named Havsgaard and what Harvest Riverside allegedly knew before he continued in ministry.

According to the complaint, Havsgaard’s sister reported that he had repeatedly raped two younger sisters when they were children. The filing says one sister later tried to warn Harvest Riverside because she believed he was a danger to children and feared the church was protecting leadership instead of confronting the risk.

The complaint also alleges she met with a Harvest Riverside lay leader and told him directly about Havsgaard’s history of abusing children. His alleged response was, “This happens in a family if they learn it from another generation. That’s just what happens.”

The filing then claims that, after this report, the lay leader informed superiors at Harvest Riverside, and that they took no meaningful action.

These are allegations in a civil complaint, not proven findings. But if even part of this is accurate, the central question is brutal.

How many people had to be warned before someone finally protected the children?

According to a court filing, Kathy Havsgaard, the then wife of a pastor accused of child abuse, allegedly had reasons to believe her husband had r*ped a 4-year-old girl.

The filing also claims Kathy did not want to go to Bucharest. But Greg Laurie allegedly insisted she go because it was important to present a wholesome married couple in Romania.

The reason, according to the filing, was that timage would help gain the confidence of Romanian authorities and support fundraising efforts back in California.

So the allegation is not just that abuse was ignored.

It is that a marriage was used as a credibility shield. A family image became part of the pitch. And a woman who allegedly had serious reason to fear what her husband had done was still pushed into a role meant to make the whole operation look safe, trustworthy, and respectable.
