I have graduated BBA (Finance) last year from VES College Mumbai (6.1 CGPA) and made a mistake of going the VES route again with MCom. I wanted MCom Management and I wanted to stay in VES (yes, a big mistake on my part), but they closed the course, so I went with MCom (Advanced) Accountancy.
Ever since one month after the beginning of my M.Com, my parents have been applying me to government job exams. I gave two of them IBPS and RBI (PWD quota) both went horrible and I did NOT clear them. I was like, okay, let me complete my Part 2 first, or let’s see after Part 1 what options do i ahve, I can drop out of MCom and then we will decide. Now they are putting pressure on me to continue Part 2 as well as give government job exams 10 of them altogether. They are saying, “Let’s apply to 10 and at least in one, you’ll get a job somewhere.”
I have literally no actual work experience at all. I’ve never worked in a corporate environment. Every internship project I just got certificates through contacts (for both BBA and MCom mandatory internships). I never actually went and worked in any corporate office. I have one experience of a CEP Internship (Community Engagement Program) in an NGO I worked hard there, if that counts.
Now I raised the point to my parents that let me work in a corporate role for a few months and see, because I don’t know what path to pursue right now. Maybe I will know in Part 2. They are like, “Fill out job forms now; you’ll get a job in 2–3 years.” When I raised the point of corporate jobs, they are like, “They’ll hire you today and fire you tomorrow,” giving examples of TCS mass layoffs and such.
Now they are applying for my metric-based (Class 10th) jobs and such, which are easier to understand and crack. But I don’t understand they are bringing up points of mass layoffs and “they’ll hire you today and ask you to leave tomorrow.” I don’t understand.
For them, it’s either I do a government job or I will certainly become a beggar. Since I don’t have actual corporate or management-based experience, they don’t let me do internships. My college time is free, so they are like, “You will only prepare for government jobs.”
They also bring up the point that if I get a government job, there will be a line of girls for marriage (which I find irrelevant to the main topic). They say you won’t get that kind of attention with a corporate job.
Now I am in regret for taking Accountancy MCom as well as under pressure to pursue government jobs. I am saying let me complete Part 2, then I will apply for 100 exams I am okay with that. They are like, “If you apply now, you’ll get a job after 2–3 years.”
What do I do here? I don’t know which path or specialization to pursue. I took Accountancy MCom and I’m regretting that. What do I do? And also, where and how do I find my career passion and understand What specialization would be a good fit for me?
