Lisa Eldridge Luminist concealer review
About me: 46, light-medium neutral skin, normal to dry. Under my eyes I have hollows, occasional puffiness, some darker blue discoloration (not too bad) and some fine lines. I like self-setting concealers with a natural or matte finish, medium coverage, a slight peach undertone, in the same shade as my skin.
So when I heard Lisa was coming out with a "dewy, glowy" concealer, I wasn't thrilled. Under the eyes is the one part of my face I don't want to draw attention to. I'm not about brightening or luminosity there. At all. But I subjectively think she makes the best makeup on the market, so I ordered one anyway.
Shade: I wear the same skin tint shade as Lisa (6.5), so I first thought of shade 8. The corrector shade 5 she used in the video looked way too light and rosy to me from the start, and the lighting and editing in the video made it impossible to tell what 8 would look like on my skin. Customer service didn't have any real-life swatches, only the arm swatch images from the website, which are also heavily edited and not very helpful. When I sent them a photo of myself, they recommended 9.
When it arrived, 9 was clearly too light and too yellow ("golden"). It didn't look good under my eyes at all. I'm still a little tan right now, which didn't help, though I doubt it would work for me in the middle of winter either. I contacted customer service again with a comparison swatch of my ideal concealer (MUFE Ultra HD self-setting in 31, which is discontinued and expired, but I keep it as a reference) next to 9. They suggested 12 or 15 (rosy vs. neutral golden peach). I picked 15. And because Lisa runs the BEST CS on this planet, they sent the replacement free of charge.
Shade 15 is PERFECT. Really an amazing match, and for me it works as a hybrid corrector/concealer shade. I hope she makes a slightly lighter version someday, which I would love for the winter.
Formula: Really, really nice. Perfect level of creaminess, applies easily and kind of sinks into the skin. It neutralizes darkness and my skin looks smooth and hydrated all day long.
It does get into fine lines, and don't let influencers fool you, there's no such thing as a creaseless concealer. I have to tap it out a couple of times during the day, and I find Luminist creases more than MUFE, Chanel or NYX Bare With Me.
That said, my fears about it looking dewy and glowy were unfounded. As you can see in the swatches, 15 is less luminous than 9. It dries down to a demi-matte on me without feeling like a drying matte concealer. I can easily go without powder, but with a tiny bit of powder I don't have to tap out the creases as much, so I prefer to do it that way.
My verdict: 8/10. Hope this helps, and ask away if you have questions.
The last image was taken after 30 min, to show products after dry down. All swatches have a blended version on the right side.
