Second Master’s Degree or PhD?
Hi. I’m 23 years old and about to finish my first year of my master’s program in Communications. I love the Communications field and Media Studies and ever since I was little I’ve wanted to do a PhD. I don’t necessarily want to stay in academia, I’ve just wanted to prove to myself that I can do it.
Since I’m one year away from graduating, I’ve reached the fork in the road many grad students face. In my case, I want to first work a few years after graduating before going back into academia. However, I’m faced with a conundrum.
I want to study in Europe (I’m currently studying in the U.S.) and I’ve been reading about how competitive it is to get into a PhD program in Media Studies, especially the program I’m considering, and how it is even more competitive for international students. I was wondering if you had any advice for this indecisive grad student. Should I just get a second Master’s or a PhD?Thanks.
