A mystery

A new issue has popped up on my ‘06. I’ve had it for nearly 7 years, and it’s been an absolute tank. I’m the 2nd owner, and most of the miles on the bike are mine.

Here’s the dilemma - for the last year, it starts and runs perfectly when cold, but after about 30 minutes in the Arizona heat, it dies at idle. No sputtering, just roll up to a stop sign and it dies. Sometimes it’ll restart right away, sometimes you have to give it a little throttle to get it to turn back over. Keeping it revved above 2k rpm will get me home, but it will not maintain idle for more than 15-20 seconds when it’s hot. Idle is set at 1550ish, according to my trailtech tach.

So far:
The stock carb has been cleaned and rebuilt (twice this month) with real Mikuni jets, exact same sizes as the originals I pulled out. I even had to drill the brass adjuster cover out, it had never been tampered with. Coil, stator and pulse coil, plugs and wires are all new, battery is new. Petcock just rebuilt, stock tank, new vented gas cap. Gas is fresh and carb inlet sock removed, oil and filter fresh, choke has been checked and is functioning properly. Clutch and side stand switches disabled. Valves just adjusted, but were relatively in spec already. None of the above has had any effect on the idling issue, and everything except the stator was done after this issue started. I’ve even disconnected and cleaned every connector and harness I could find.

Stock across the board, with the exception of the usual drilled airbox mod done by the previous owner.

I’m losing my mind - am I missing something? I can run it at 80 mph all day, but as soon as I hit a stoplight, it dies on me.
