Starcraft 64 seems to work fine

As the title says, i was just curious about to see how and when the game crashes, but after playing four Hours, i had no crash, even at the level in which the Zerg overrun the base.

The overclocking seems to help a bit against the slow downs when big armies clash, have yet to test out a higher one hehe

As i never tried it on the original N64 and the newest update gave the Rumble Pak to the M64 Controller, i was pretty surprised that this game supports it :D

Pretty cool to "feel" the Siege Tanks going on their mayhem hehe

Everdrive X7 - Picture off screen, original module is fine

Testing all kind of PAL Games showed me that some will not work properly on the Everdrive X7.
As you can see, the Picture of some is off screen, but on the original Module it is fine.
It also depends on the Screen, so the Intro Screen of Pokemon Stadium was fine, but as seen in the Screenshot all the Menues were off, the Battles itself are also fine.
Nothing of it on the original Game.
There is no Option on my Monitor or the M64 to change it.

Did that happen to someone with NTSC Games?

If i guess, it could be due to different Resolutions between Screens, very prominent with Resident Evil 2 and some Upscaler having problems with it.

That said, as this happens, other Issues could be also caused because of the Mix of M64 and Everdrive.

(Just adding, i dumped my own ROM and Save Game to the Everdrive with the Retrode2)

First PAL Experience

The M64 arrived today and i want to share my first PAL Experience, as information was spread around, that PAL does not work on it.
To make it short: From the games i have tested Pokemon Stadium had the picture off the screen, but worked, the others were fine.
Smash Bros Remix got stuck after selecting characters.

The build quality of the Controller is impressive, really, being made out of aluminium gives it a very nice feeling.
Even my wife was impressed and said that this is really a nice piece (normally i would get a comment about the price haha).
Some on X said that the D-Pad makes wrong inputs, i tested in on Quake 2 and Doom 64, doing only inputs in one direction and at least until now, i haven't had wrong inputs, but i will test it later further with Michief Makers.

The build quality of the M64 is also suprisingly good, i thought Palmer exaggerated when saying you can't bend it, but it is really thick plastic.
And yes, it somehow looks nicer in real life, not sure why, it is not as the colors would be off,
but the smaller form factor and perspective does a lot.

I played Games i own on Module, but i tested them over the Everdrive X7 (here i made the update for the Bootloader early this week, so no idea if i would have a black screen without it)
I have seen no difference in them. As said, all PAL but the Rom Hack of Smash Bros.

I tested:
- Yoshi's Story, did run without Issues
- San Francisco Rush, also no Issues
- Ridge Racer 64, no Issues.
- Mario 64, no Issues
- Doom 64, no Issues
- Quake 2, no Issues, but somehow, i think there is a bit jaggyness going on.
I saw others make such comments in Mario 64. I have a comparison picture of Quake 2 on a real N64 with the Rad2x Cable, but here i use the smoothing, so maybe it is because of that. (here i have pictures to compare).
That said, i would like such a smooth filter for the M64 ;)
- Pokemon Stadium, as said, the picture is off screen.
I have a Mister and somehow, my PAL games do not start on it directly, i have to switch to NTSC and back to PAL to make them start.
If i leave it at NTSC, the Picture is at the same way off the screen.
Doesn't seem like something impossible to solve.

Ah and i also couldn't spot any sound issues.
I know from issues when using not properly done Rom Hacks on PAL games but also from Source Ports, that the Music will stutter brutally, even if the game runs fine.
Nothing of it on here.

Overall, i have the impression that the Picture Quality is comparable to a N64 with a Rad2x.

Also adding, bugs with a controller port having the lights on ore else are not present on my unit.

Edit:

- Perfect Dark, the intro scene with the Logos is off, the game itself is fine.

- Conker's Bad Fur Day runs fine

I also went back to Pokemon Stadium, in a battle, everything is fine, everything outside a battle is off.

Strange

Edit2

So i played a round through Smash Bros without problems.

Resident Evil 2 PAL and NTSC somehow got stucked, but when i tried again it apparently ran, but I haven't played much.

Also played four Levels of Xilaba, fun game.

Edit 4

- Indiana Jones is also off screen

No Capacitors and other degrading Components

Holy! Why hasn't that information spread more already?
One of the biggest issues i have with old devices and video games is that you have to take care of, of you don't want to lose it because a capacitor leaked or because it doesn't keeps the voltage stable and chips get affected.
I can't describe how much i love to see such a system, that doesn't make me think that i have some time bombs laying around.
I am not as good in soldering, besides batteries of Gameboy games, i did let it make for the Super Nintendo.
Doing it for a lot of stuff can become pretty time intensive or costly.

Here the time frame in the video:

Cheap Black and White CRT

Browsing the Internet i came across the Anbernic GBA Clone and saw that it has a Video out...
and somehow i was enlightened with the glorious Idea that i need it to combine it with the cheap black and white TV that was spread around somewhere in the 2000s.

The Device plays original GBA Games and can also emulate GB and NES ones, not perfect, but good enough to have some fun.

The Picture Quality is ok for what it is.

Good evening people,

i got a "new" PC and need some Advice/Suggestion for a good and save working GPU and help with a USB expansion card i bought.

The PC has:
- Intel Pentium 2 a 400 MHz
- Now 320 MB Ram (came with 64)
- An Ati 3D Rage Pro with 8 MB Ram
- It is an 440BX Motherboard

The question first:
Do you have any Advice for a GPU that will run for sure on my System and will be a well enough jump from the Ati Rage?
I would be thankful if you could recommend me one that has a high compatibility and will not waste a full day of testing :)

Second question:
I have trouble to get the USB Card i bought to run.
It is a VIA VT6212L, Windows 98 deactivates it all the time and i can't activate it manually.
On Windows 2000 it did the same, but after messing around i got a bit further and it did recognize that i put in a thumb stick, even if it wasn't able to install it.
In the long turn i want to use 98, so having it partly run on 2k is just a sign that it is not dead.
The Motherboard has two integrated USB 1.0 Slots, they are way too slow to use them to transfare games or to use ISOs.
My guess is that the onboard USB is colliding with the card.
There aren't many options in the BIOS for USB under integrated devices, so just deactivating the onboard USB is sadly not possible.

Long Story about the GPU:
I bought a MX400 with 32 MB from Ebay, as it should be enough for me and a good enough Jump from the Rage Pro.
That said, after setting up the drivers it got stuck on the Windows Boot Screen
I tested 6 or 7 Versions of the Detonator, from 5.33 up to 45.23, as the GPU clearly gave me a picture and it always got stuck while booting, i thought it was a driver problem.
I also reinstalled Windows 98 to be sure to have a fresh system.
After testing so many versions on 98, i installed Windows 2000 and its Drivers, to see if it works on it.
But it was the same Game, it gets stuck on the Windows Splash Screen.

The Ati 3D Rage works fine.

So it is eather an incompatibility with my board or the GPU is broken.
