Brief alternative analysis of Muzan, the "living mask" of Magsarion. Remake post of Muzan≠Magsarion, part 1:
Well, to begin this analysis—
- Have you seen the movie Obsession?
I'll explain as I go, and it will make sense (I think) in the end—let's go!
I'll use this movie as an example because it's quite recent and easily accessible, and it's also easy to understand and grasp the basis of what I'm saying, as well as better understand Muzan and Mags, and their differences and similarities.
In the Movie, the MC called Bear makes a wish for the character to love him above all else, and precisely because of Bear's wish, a new Nikki is born.
This Nikki has a personality TOTALLY superficial compared to the original, but still, in a way, it's her.
In the sense that she seems to lack the "depth" or "humanity" of the original, and is something "superficial."
Like a new personality superimposed on the original, like a mask and a completely new personality.
Based on Bear's perception, based on his wish!
According to the director, he has already said that what happens to her is not possession, as occurs in normal films of this genre.
But literally, the bear's desire CREATED a "new Nikke," a new "Nikki" who acts similarly to a multiple personality.
She acts in a completely distorted way and literally seems not to know what it's like to be "human," acting only based on the "original character" she's using as "clothing."
That's where Muzan and Mags come in from the glossary:
> He reigns, but does not govern. Therefore, he cannot be called Hadou.
> Even so, his new stance, of transforming the structure of the external world, represents a complete break with the old Magsarion.
> Varhram, even being the most supernatural of all, desired a banal life, but never managed to achieve it while he lived.
> As his antithesis, Magsarion becomes involved with the prayers of "everyone," becomes a god, and places "that child," banal and common, at the apex of the supernatural, as his guide.
> With these three transformations, Magsarion was reborn. He came to understand even the Commandments and hidden desires of Shinga. The last modification, in particular, was a fatal blow against her plans.
Remember that Nerose even mentioned that Muzan is more of a sword than "human" and that he can't even imagine how "that" was able to be born, because it was too "inhuman"?
And as we've seen, Muzan's own personality is very bipolar and changeable in contrast to the previous Magsarion.
As if several "desires" were superimposed on the original, concealing it.
That's why Muzan is his "mask," and that's why he's unstable.
I believe that those who have never seen Magsarion don't see the difference. But people like Quinn and Alma, I'm sure they would notice.
That's why Muzan is called "a multiple personality" and a "mask."
He's not exactly a person, but basically, as Nikki's character, he was essentially a "wish" that came true, which is why he doesn't act exactly like a "human" and acts according to the "prayers" that created him and Magsarion's wish.
Basically, he is the personification of Magsarion's "Hadou."
Not that Mags HAS or IS Hadou
But the desire to create one of his own and the prayers of ALL, created this personality and new being "Magsarion".
Muzan is more of a sword and a living law than a "person".
That's why he is armor and a mask, as stated in the glossary.
And ironically, the author of Obsession said that the real Nikki is in purgatory while the false Nikki controls her body and follows her desires.
And this reminded me of how Magsarion is in the abyss while his "other self" commands in his place.
Just as Muzan is in the world and Mags is in the abyss of the throne,
Muzan is a superficial mask of Mags.
Not his real personality, but a being/personality created to replace him and be the "Hadou Magsarion" in his place, based on his desire and prayers.
That's why he "is and isn't" Magsarion, because he is Magsarion, but a version of him that was created by his desire and everyone's prayers to be a "Hadou," and as stated in the glossary, this creation fragmented him from his "former self."
I think it would even make sense for him to be called "Magsarion" by Massada.
He's basically a living "what if" version of himself. A personality of a version of himself.
He's not Magsarion, but he's a version of him.
This would finally explain why, and would make sense with Magsarion's statement that
> he would be the one to assume the throne, but it wouldn't be HIM.
This would explain why Masada constantly confuses me with these things when talking about Magsarion and Muzan.
Muzan both is and isn't Magsarion, as he is an artificially created version of himself.
This would explain all of Nerose's talk about it being impossible for something like Muzan to be born naturally or to be human.
Because Muzan isn't; he is and isn't Magsarion, a living law and sword made in his image that "everyone" possesses, but isn't the real him. A new personality for the being called "Magsarion," while his REAL self sleeps in the abyss.
Some additional comments my friends Maubruto and Dairokutenhajun made to this analysis:
- Maubruto:
It would make sense for him to be something born from the law of anarchy.
Because, as it's said, Magsarion is at the top of everything, but he doesn't enjoy that position like a king (Hadou). Muzan, born from the desire of many people to change the world, was formed as a final point through this law, generating his own law through the prayers of Nadare, Khvarenah, Sirius, and Kaikhosru, but the switch that made it light up was the fourth commandment.
Since, if you look at Nadare's fight, Magsarion himself speaks of infinite sins, she speaks of an endless cycle of killing, which corroborates Kouha's summary about the second heaven.
So Muzan came from everyone's desire, but needed something final to form, the basis being the fourth commandment, where he reigns AND governs, unlike Magsarion, who is only at the top but doesn't assume that position. for yourself
- Dairokutenhajun:
I believe Masada did explain why muzan wears a suit, by saying that's how everyone "perceived" Magsarion as, so in a way, even his appearance isn't that of the original being and is shaped by prayers, Apart from that, Muzan's prototype being Aka Manah which is literally just a sword also ties into what you were saying about him being a blade.
