Herald 1.1 Update (Plex Release, Games, News, More...)

Hey everyone! Some of you may have seen my previous post on Herald with all of my features and apps. Today, proud to showcase the center for all of these (as the list was growing too much). This website is an Alpha and truly designed to showcase what I have built so far (and if anyone else wants to tag along).

A few updates:

  1. UI Upgrades to match more of Meta Interface
  2. Google/YT Login is toggled off for now while we await sensitive scope approval.
  3. Plex is now live and has access to both Cloud Based or Local LAN
  4. A few games like Snake, Minesweeper and Flappy Bird clone are on there. With more such as Tetris, PacMan, and others to come.
  5. Timers and Bill Split have been updated to account for a more flick gesture while a rapid up twice can exit you out.

Since the first post, we have added: BlueSky, Twitch, Tools, and so much more.

On the Roadmap: Home Integration, Additional Games (Sudoku), TV Remote, Powerpoint/Keynote Integration, Streaming Service Connection, Breathe, Teleprompter, Sky tonight, Read-later, Tabletop roller, Speedometer, compass.

I have also had others ask me about a tip jar/buy me coffee link and have added it to the website. While I never plan to charge for any of these, if you do ever donate, it does help with servers (and soon API costs)!

Introducing Herald (Reddit, YouTube/Beta, Discord/Beta, Crypto)

Hey everyone! I am so happy to see some webapps get made and things rolling for the Displays. That said, I haven't seen anyone create a reddit app for the device and decided to create it myself. For reference, I currently run a Crypto Analytics and Discord Bot platform, so I integrated this within the system to create a more uniformed and secure experience. I would like to stress however, that this service is in ALPHA not even Beta. However, once complete, Herald will outline 4 different ways to connect.

UPDATE: Created version 1.1 which includes a cleaner and more advanced UI along with overall better performance and fallback. Also, adding new Apps like Twitch, BlueSky, Twitter, Sports, Timers and Tools.

How it Works

Herald uses a web app to link your Reddit, Discord and YouTube accounts using secure oAuth as a way of getting the data. As someone that also takes privacy seriously, it has an integrated delete all my data which removes everything instantly. However, the app doesn't really store anything private unless you add sensitive data, but you can view all of that info here https://herald.ascents.gg/privacy

Companion App: https://herald.ascents.gg/app
Herald Home App: https://herald.ascents.gg/a (you can add this to the webapps for everything in one).

To get started, you can either add the https://herald.ascents.gg/a to your web app OR if you want a specific connection only, just select from the direct links below. Once adding the webapp to the glasses, you will be prompted to visit https://herald.ascents.gg/herald to enter your link code for oAuth OR browse as a guest, the choice is yours. If you want to customize favorite subreddits etc more you can do all of that from the Companion app.

If at any point you want to get to the menu bar while scrolling, double swipe down to do so.

Reddit

WebApp: https://herald.ascents.gg/a/reddit/

Above is the direct webapp link, with Reddit you can browse, upvote, reply and view reddit feeds as you would. Of course, this can be more difficult on the glasses but provides a great proof of concept for what can be done. If you choose to connect your account, you can see your curated feed as you would on reddit mobile, along with the ability to create specific sub sections.

YouTube

WebApp: https://herald.ascents.gg/a/youtube/

YouTube is, well you guessed it, youtube. However, you are able to login to your account the same way as the others above. Currently though, if you have advanced protection on, you will be unable to login (that said, working on verification from google to authorize this). Alternatively, you are able to search videos and such with just a guest mode access.

Discord

WebApp: https://herald.ascents.gg/a/discord/

Discord is rather difficult beast but getting closer to a solution. Due to their TOS limitations, you cannot use a bot to reply from, you also cannot see content without logging in and having the bot present. Right now, the current implementation is using oAuth to get your servers and then adding a Discord bot as a read only way of seeing content. While the webapp works, until the bot is posted, this wont work as fully designed.

Augur

WebApp: https://herald.ascents.gg/a/augur/

Augur is actually an extension to my platform https://augur.ascents.gg and uses our own internal API to feed your crypto analytics and data. Again, super limited for the time being but proof of concept.

Hope you guys can try some of this out, my goal is to add TikTok and X next along with polishing the rest of the platform. A lot of things are still super limited due to the webapp limitations but doing what I can. Let me know thoughts, ideas and what you would want!

Twitch

WebApp: https://herald.ascents.gg/a/twitch/

Twitch lets you browse live channels by game and category, see who's streaming sorted by viewers, watch the stream and read chat right beside it. You can connect your account the same way as the others to pull in the channels you already follow, or just browse as a guest. Limitation wise though, the glasses webview is a rough place to run a live video player, so streams can take a bit to spin up (which sadly I have no control over), and sound-on is best-effort depending on how the device wakes the player. It works, but think of it as glance-and-go rather than your primary watching experience for now.

BlueSky

WebApp: https://herald.ascents.gg/a/bluesky/

BlueSky is the open Twitter alternative, and this one reads your timeline, feeds and threads on-glass. BlueSky doesn't do oAuth like the others, it uses app passwords, so to connect you generate one in your BlueSky settings and drop it into the Companion app instead of a normal login. It's read-first for the time being (browsing, not posting), which keeps it simple and safe, but it's a solid proof of concept and honestly one of the smoother feeds on the device.

Twitter

WebApp: https://herald.ascents.gg/a/twitter/

So X actually made it in. Quick honesty up front: X's official API is brutally expensive, so this may or may not stay, thus, its read-only, you can search, view profiles, threads and replies, but you can't post from the glasses. There's also no real "home timeline" available that way, so instead you build a curated Following feed by adding the accounts you actually care about and Herald fans those out for you. Super limited and a little hacky, but a fun proof of concept.

Sports

WebApp: https://herald.ascents.gg/a/sports/

Sports is the one I went a little overboard on. You get live scores, standings, play-by-play, your followed teams and a combined feed of your favorite leagues, NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL and soccer (EPL/UCL/LaLiga/MLS). It updates in near real-time, and on live games it shows the situation, not just the score: bases occupied with balls/strikes/outs for baseball, down & distance and who has the ball for football, period and clock for hockey and basketball, so you can genuinely follow a game without leaving the screen. No login needed, it's all free public data. The honest caveat, data source can error out/fluctuate at any time.

Timers

WebApp: https://herald.ascents.gg/a/timers/

Timers is exactly what it sounds like and runs 100% on-device, no account, no oAuth, nothing leaving the glasses. You get a live clock (12/24h), a stopwatch with laps, multiple named timers, one-tap cooking presets, a Pomodoro mode and a circular countdown ring so you can read time-left at a glance. The one real limitation is the webview itself, a timer only counts while the app is open, so this is a glance tool, not a background alarm.

Tools (Calculator, Tips, etc)

WebApp: https://herald.ascents.gg/a/tools/

Tools is the little utility belt**,** a calculator, tip splitter and unit converter, and like Timers it's fully offline with nothing stored or sent anywhere. Nothing fancy and no account, just the quick stuff you actually want to do hands-free on the glasses. Proof of concept, but genuinely handy.

Along with the 1.1 update, this we have now added considerable amounts of use cases, data, and refinement. Currently, awaiting further verification from Google to enable the ability to login and see subscriptions, along with some advanced X content and Twitch fixes. You can also view everything here: https://herald.ascents.gg/showcase

Note this is all still Alpha, please share feedback, wants, etc.

Hey yall, I have been bored and really just experimenting with creating things. Initially starting out as a Vibe code project, I quickly tried to learn the actual mechanics and its been a total blast. Getting that 90% to 100% is truly the game changer and just having a ton of fun uncovering it all and figuring it out. I have always had a few passions, one being the creation of Discord Bots and the other being Crypto. However, I always felt two things were a problem:

- Discord bots could be powerful and great, but often lacked an ability to control or really run a genuine buisness flow without a strong SAAS backing.

- Crypto analytics can be exciting but often cumbersome and overwhelming for the mass audiences.

So, with some free time, I went on to create two platforms that live in each other. The first being Ascent and the other being Augur

Ascent

This platform I truly designed to create a powerful and organized strucuture for Discord community owners/admins. Often I find issues where the bots that exist are either deeply problematic with complexity, paid feature lockdown, and external control. When creating Ascent, I created 3 bots in what I call "The Pantheon", a collection that allows more control for each owner on what they need.

Sentinel - Is our security bot that has advanced anti-raid, alt detection, appeal system, backup recovery, opt-in join, AI Moderation, and much more.

Beacon - Operates as an advanced ticket system with actual CSAT reviews, AI response, canned responses, knowledge base etc.

Vanguard - Which offers AI chatbot like features, rich embed editing, giveaways, etc.

I would go into more but a lot is summarized on the website lol

The main part though, the home, is the Dashboard. It all works strongly around this area and allows a lot of power. User gets banned? They can appeal and send a request through DM to be unbanned that shows up on their /my page. Lots of Tickets? Integrated easy paltform that organizes it all. White label? Ability to set CNAME custom verification panels, ID for tokens etc.

Its something I really have had fun making but would love to see some peoples thoughts who are in the Discord realm.

Ascent Link

Augur

This paltform came with the idea of, how do we take live market data, and make it easy for the every day person, while also being powerful. Think CoinMarketCap or CoinGecko but the price of entry is much easier. For new people in the space, you see easier alerts, more streamlined market data and ability to get notifications and watchlist alerts. Also a portfolio tracker, easy learn section and more.

For more advanced crypto friends there is the standard mode, which utilizes multiple RPC nodes, APIs and data scraping to get as much info aggregated as possible to read and allow you to make informed decisions. When building both Easy and Standard mode, I wanted to ensure users were informed of potential honeypots, scam tokens, low LP etc, and using internal data to warn users (in case external audits/go plus doesnt exist). Along with this, for any project owners, creating the ability to have their users be able to vote in DAOs, take snapshots, etc. Of course, we do not retain any of this info, simply using public facing data and combining it into an easier shell.

Augur Link

Overall, its been a blast and lots of work still to do,bugs to cleanup and features to expand on, but wanted to share whats been going on.

Hello guys, I am trying to showcase/test the bots I have built but having some issues on where exactly to do that without it being a self advertising issue. Currently I am listed on Topgg for all of them but wanted some insight on where you guys go.
