Does anyone have any tips how could i make a monster/creature desight that would work in my artstyle? Im working on a pilot for my comic and its a very important and big part of it. I have no ideas on how to even start.

The whole idea for the creature is that they are born/created from souls of people who had an unfulfilled life and the main characters here captures them and try to find a way to help and send them away. I experimented a lot with different skinwalker pictures, with mashing up different animals together but it didnt work well. The happiest i was when i gave them clay masks and the body was kinda materialised. Then the main characters could make them makeshift bodies (maybe like the cute clay mask tedybears?) But i couldnt make that work either
