FT300 standalone on 1994 Ford Ranger 4.0 OHV, EDIS-6 delete, VR6 coil, anyone done this?

I'm converting a 1994 Ford Ranger XL (4.0L V6 OHV Cologne, 5-speed manual) from the factory EEC-IV to a standalone FuelTech FT300. I'm deleting the EDIS-6 module and firing a VW VR6 coil pack directly off the factory 36-1 crank trigger/VR sensor, running batch-fire injection without the cam sync sensor, and replacing the factory IAC with a fixed mechanical idle bypass instead of the electronic valve. Has anyone installed an FT300 in a similar EDIS-delete Ford application, and is there anything about this setup I should watch out for?

Ranger 1994 v6 4.0

Anyone running Speeduino on a 1994 Ford Ranger XL, manual, V6 4.0L OHV?

Hi all,

I'm starting a Speeduino conversion on a 1994 Ford Ranger XL (4.0L OHV V6, 5-speed manual, gasoline). The factory EEC-IV (F47F-12A650-CLA) is dead and no longer available on the market, and commercial standalone ECUs are out of budget — so Speeduino is the path.

Current plan:

- Preserve the factory harness using a 60-pin EEC-IV pigtail adapter (full reversibility is a hard requirement)

- Paired (batch) injection — factory harness is already wired sequentially, and paired avoids peak power loss

- Ignition: ditching the EDIS-6 and factory coilpack; replacing with a smart VW VR6 coil (021905106) that has integrated igniters

- Wideband: FANHAY LSU 4.9 (0258017025) + Octtane W4 conditioner

- MAP: 3-bar Delphi

- Pre-assembled Speeduino kit (Mega, dual VR conditioner, integrated MAP, wideband conditioner, HC-06 BT, DRV8825 stepper driver, PETG case)

Has anyone here done this engine (Cologne 4.0 OHV, not the SOHC) on Speeduino? Specifically I'd like to know:

  1. Did paired injection work well, or should I bite the bullet and go sequential with the pazi88 6-cylinder branch?
  2. Anyone using the VR6 smart coil on a 6-cyl engine — any wasted-spark vs COP recommendations for this trigger setup?
  3. Is the stock Ford Ranger IAC PWM or stepper? (Trying to confirm whether the DRV8825 in the kit is even relevant.)
  4. Any base tune / VE table you'd be willing to share as a starting point?

Thanks in advance — happy to share build progress and diagrams as it develops.

I need help, Ford Ranger 1994

Hey, good morning! I need some help here. I have a 1994 Ford Ranger XL that used to run on CNG (Natural Gas), but it has already been deactivated and removed. However, I'm having the following issues with the truck: I have to ride the clutch to get it moving; if I step on the gas all at once, it dies; and it has no power—to go up hills, I have to keep the RPMs high and stay in first gear.

I've already replaced the following parts:

  • Fuel pump and fuel feed hose.
  • Spark plugs and spark plug wires.
  • Intake manifold gaskets.
  • Fuel injectors.
  • I also checked the fuel pressure regulator, and the diaphragm isn't ruptured.

Electrical system:

  • I disconnected the MAF sensor, and the issue persists.
  • I checked the SPOUT connector; it’s not oxidized, but I used some contact cleaner on it just in case.

While checking around that area, I got to the EDIS6 ignition module (photos below).

Is it possible that this is the problem? I cleaned the gel coating and took it to a technician for evaluation, and he mentioned it doesn't show any burnt components.

I know this isn't ideal, but does anyone have a guess on what to check next?
