Being a janitor sucks nuts
So i started this part time job two years ago, cleaning a rehab center for mentally disabled adults. I work 6-10 pm mon-fri. I started at $12 an hour in 2024, i now make $15 an hour. This job was super chill, relaxing, no co workers or bosses looking at my every move. It then began to feel pretty lonely about a year in and repetitive. But it was easy money! But I began to notice ridiculous things about the place i worked at and now im pissed off almost every shift. The work itself is easy as shit and i get done within an hour or two, but i absolutely hate the way they do some stuff here. For starters they got a recycling bin with separate things for glass, paper, plastic, aluminum. The recycled bins then became full quickly, and i thought they would handle the recycling as this state doesn’t do curbside recycling in separate bins. They ended up throwing it all away and setting the bins outside in storage. Alright whatever.
I then began to notice when they would do arts and crafts, or clean up and go threw their stuff, they would legit throw away perfectly good beads, jewelry, knick knacks, paint, resin supplies, tools, etc. when i tell you its completely ridiculous how much jewelry I’ve saved from their trash and resin supplies that were all BRAND NEW is all probably $100s of dollars worth of stuff. I DO NOT understand why they never donate anything.
Onto the gross shit, they legit leave shit on the floor and walls. Semi consistently. They have people there to help them go to the bathroom, so i do not understand why no one tries to clean up the literally piles of shit they leave on the floor feet from the toilet, on the walls, whatever.
The amount of clogged toilets ive done is insane. They pour paint and craft shit down the drain, and blamed it on me. Ive cleared 4 sinks this week. They pour stuff consistently down a sink that hasnt worked the entire time ive worked here, with a perfectly good sink right next to it. Like inches apart. Theres mouse poop on the kitchen counters and ive left notes and they continue to leave food out. They leave giant piles of rotting dishes in the sink for days that i end up doing even though im technically not supposed to. Theres a moldy air vent that i told them about and sent pics last summer, no one has fixed it and they keep turning it on. I keep turning it off. They leave piles of trash on the ground, and other shit.
Its so disrespectful, and i truely feel they leave most of it for me.
Luckily i found a new job! Im sick of it here.
