Why does the Doctor keep taking companions knowing there's a high chance they'll die in some form or another?
From the perspective of the companions' families, their relative would still be alive if they never met the Doctor. It seems pretty evil for the Doctor to take on companions for some company just for them to have a horrible fate (like Bill Potts) and for their family to have to deal with that
