How to get cheap, brand new Apple products from secondary markets

I recently got the 2025 M4 macbook air 13 256gb for $1100 CAD ($800 USD) brand new, sealed with Apple warranty going until the end of 2027. If I went for the M5, it would have been over $1700 CAD.

How?

For retailers and manufacturers, an under stock is more expensive than an over stock. Meaning, it’s better to have more of a product than not enough of it.

This is because at the end of every product cycle, whether it be headphones, TVs, computers, laptops, etc., any remaining inventory is sold in bulk to liquidation businesses, mitigating the losses.

These businesses buy inventory that other businesses no longer need in bulk at a heavy discount from the ticket price. Essentially, any electronics product that gets refreshed year over year, the remaining inventory before the new iteration is received is sold in bulk.

Now, certain storefronts (think of those electronics shops you see in random plazas) will buy these products in bulk and sell them. These are usually safer than meeting random people in parking lots because they have a registered business with a fixed location/address, so scamming customers for them is bad for business. You also know where to find them if something isn’t right.

Overall, you’ll still want to do your due diligence, talk to the person selling it, ensure there’s no MDM or lock on it, etc. I’m in a very populated area, so you can find tons of stock for last years electronics that didn’t get sold for very cheap, brand new. The more populated your city is, the more options you’ll have, since there will likely be more overstock.

Just for people who are skeptical of buying from Marketplace: There are some people/businesses running it as a legit operation.
